As flawed and incomplete and rushed as this game is its still one of my favourite video games of all time. There is just so much love and creativity in it that just doesnt exist in todays world. They dont make em like they used to. Most of my playtime was spent in the Bitterblack Isle what a legendary and iconic endgame dungeon.
Older open world rpg but has some great mechanics and I enjoy the combat and exploration.
A janky mess of a game that I can only imagine falls into the same category of games that are liked because of one or two quirks and the community gas lights themselves into ignoring any flaws because dear lord I don't see how anyone can like the non-magic based combat. Or all the walking.
This was an utterly utterly miserable experience for me. Doing three attacks then waiting for a stamina bar that barely regens while dodging waves of enemies. I spent half an hour fighting wolves only to walk down the road and get two wolf encounters spawning ontop of each other. Maybe if you like Dark Souls this could be for you but for anyone who wants to get a good story, well I didn't find any of the story before giving up on this. The pawn system is a good idea but they are useless getting constantly downed even when you change them out for ones of the same level as you. The magic sytem isn't great. I played a mage and my strongest attacks barely tickled wolves who'd then proceed to eat my face off. Some bandits spawn who are immune to all forms of attacks. The boss fights are just a mess of randomly throwing everything you can at the enemy. I was utterly miserable the whole way through, got to the first town, did a story encounter there then just put the game down. If you don't like the Souls series or want to experience a fun engaging world. Don't touch this game.
if you like a gritty, deliberate dark and difficult rpg with a large but still contained world and build variety, dragon's dogma has it in droves. save often after battles you never know when youll die and if you cant remember the last time it autosaved, you can easily lose lots of progress, this is not a bad thing in my opinion, though 2 auto saves at present at least after every fight on its own, but i enjoy the system because it adds a real sense of risk to every fight, are you strong enough, or are you about to get taught a harsh lesson in humility and picking your battles. this is hands down one of if not my favorite game of all time as is dragons dogma 2, this series holds a special place for me even for as niche as it is.
