even in 2026 this game can beat lots of modern 3A games , not gonna lie, the story and the battle system were really great >-< Just play it !
This game is so good. Playing on Hard is extremely challenging and rewarding. Combat is superb and world building is awesome.
Dragon's Dogma embodies the soul of Monster Hunter and classic Eurojank. DD has all the landscapes and feel of a Eurojank, and that includes the jank. There are buggy quests, repetitive quest design, and the pawn are too dumb. The pawn system is an interesting mechanic, but the AI needs more polish, and players better commands to control them. The best part of the game is the monster hunting. You need to carefully study each monster and always be prepared for debilitations. After every battle, you can use the spoils to upgrade your equipment. And before you begin hunting, you need to choose your weapons carefully. Dragon's Dogma is a great game and surprisingly short for an RPG, but it can also be very frustrating at times.
I really tried liking this game but after more than 20 hours of gameplay I just gave up.
The Bad

The World
It feels really empty. The spawn locations of the enemies are always the same, and with very limited fast-travel options traversing from one side of the map to another (which you need to do quite often) becomes an annoying chore very quickly. You keep visiting the same few locations, fighting the same 5 types of enemies, over, and over, and over again.
Side-Quests
90% of sidequests are some kind of fetch quests. Take something from NPC A, bring it to NPC B. Kill X enemies of type Y and so on. The few ones that have some kind of storyline are surprisingly short and most of the time are really simple.
The story
At least until the point I stopped playing, the story felt really cliche and predictable. I do understand it's an old game so my opinion here may be a bit biased.
The Good
- Character customization and specialization. You get a lot of freedom in customizing your character, including stuff like height, weight and so on (which actually affect the gameplay a little, like stamina and carrying capacity). You also get 3 base classes (called "vocations") with another 3 upgraded versions and 3 hybrid ones - so 9 classes in total to choose from, which in my opinion is pretty good for an older RPG. The classes have different playstyles, skillsets and so on, and you can really feel the difference when switching from one vocation to another. - The Pawn system is pretty cool as well. You can customize your main pawn (your main companion) and the process of building your party by adding two more pawns from other players is engaging. - The skills and abilities are flashy, look cool and are fun to use. You can be as badass (or realistic) as you want.
Conclusion
The game is still really boring. Every time I want to progress with the main questline I instead have to spend a ton of time walking to the other side of the map, fighting goblins, harpies, or bandits just to get a 5-minute battle with a cool boss. The game DOES have enjoyable, fun moments, but they are spread out and between them there's a vast nothingness of boring, repetitive and unrewarding gameplay. You can try buying Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen during a sale (I don't recommend paying full price) and maybe you'll enjoy it, as after all, it is a popular game with a big fanbase, but nevertheless be prepared to be disappointed after about 10-15h of playing.
Third time playing the game. It was fantastic playing the first time around and a solid go-to for when I can't seem to find a game to play.
One of a kind masterpiece game. You owe it to yourself to play this if you like action RPGs. It's a little janky here and there, but only as a byproduct of the sheer ambition and passion that went into making such a comprehensive RPG.
These games are the best, at least for me. Even with my potato graphics, everything is still beautiful. From sunrise to sunset, and even with the DLC. The combat mechanics is also good, and I'm enjoying every vocation there is in my every run. I can still have some fun after finishing everything and there's nothing more to do but have some small goals and get killed by multiple eliminators or living armors. Peak.
An amazing open world RPG where the combat really shines, it still holds up all these years later. The classes (vocations) have a wide variety of options, so there should always be something you'd like. Climbing monsters and stabbing them in their weak spot never gets old, and still feels cool. After the announcement of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, it made me realize I never wrote a review for this game. But I prefer this one over the second. Let's hope they will improve just as much as the Dark Arisen expansion did for the first game. All in all, can definitely recommend this game!
The game is great, but i´m very disappointed that after all those years, several bugs that can and will break some quests never have been fixed.
