My first review on Steam!! Anyway, I decided not to look at reviews as I am new to Dragon Age, but I am glad with that decision because I am enjoying the game. I love the customizability of the game. From accessibility options, controls, difficulty adjustments, lore, looks, costumes, and the dialogues, they all are pretty impressive. This game is great especially for those new to the Dragon Age series like me lol

There’s a quest in Rivain Beach where you need to blow up a ladder. If it’s not triggering properly, try switching to “Borderless Window” mode or tweaking the resolution. Worked for me.

72 hours for one playthrough Honestly, it’s a pretty solid game. I’d give it a 7 out of 10, so definitely worth picking up on sale. No fluff, just the game itself. The good and the bad are both pretty clear. Good: 1.Story/narrative stuff is top-notch. Main quests, side quests, character motivations, atmosphere, choice-and-consequence, plus the NPCs and companions—rarely see this done this well. The whole world feels genuinely alive. The story actually earns the word “epic.” And the character arcs really pull at your heartstrings. Every companion has their own personality and charm. 2.The environments are gorgeous. Grand, vivid, beautiful. Some locations even gave me Lord of the Rings vibes. 3.The combat system is polished. This semi-tactical, semi-action system unique to Dragon Age gets even better here. The action feels great—smoother than some pure action games from less experienced devs. With quick slots, the pause mechanic isn’t necessary, so even if you hate stopping time to cast spells, you’ll be fine. Bad: 1.Most companion models aren’t great-looking. Not exactly ugly—just a bit too plain, or their bone structure looks a little off. But honestly, because the characters themselves are so well-written, you stop noticing pretty quickly. 2.The overall style leans too much into cartoonish vibes, which might turn some people off. That includes character designs, color tones, etc. Definitely not as striking as a more realistic style would be. Also, the game has a slightly purple tint—if you’re on PC, grab a ReShade preset from Nexus; it helps a lot. 3.Enemy design lacks variety—both in interactions and mechanics. Late-game enemy spam and palette swaps are common. Kind of a genre-wide issue at this point. Mixed: Build depth is mid. Not super deep, but far from shallow. Mostly comes down to gear and skill trees. If they actually removed the warrior/mage/rogue class restrictions and let you free-assign points, depth would go through the roof. But looks like they’ve stuck to the same system since earlier games—guess some traditions never change (lol). So yeah, recommended. Personal ramble: Now that I’ve actually played it myself, I realize it’s a genuinely good game. Kind of a shame, really. Things outside the game shouldn’t affect how we judge the game itself this much. Also, this game really proves how vital good art direction is—otherwise, no matter how strong the rest of the game is, players won’t bite, or they’ll drop it early. What a pity.
As a very casual fan of Dragon Age, I quite enjoyed this game but would understand why hardcore fans may not. For reference I have played all of the game in the series (with my favourite being Inquisition) so I definitely understand some of the steps backwards that have people irritated. The story feels more linear and a less memorable, there is a lack of carry over consequences from the previous games (something that was always uniquely great about Dragon age) and there are some political things being pushed which were never previously mentioned in the franchise which never really bothered me but I understand why some people find it to be bit forced. I also found the open world a bit less interesting to explore than Inquisition and wish there were more side progression things like Inquisition had instead of it basically just being weapons, armour and skills. Lastly it doesn't seem like we will ever get a dlc to finish the story that was hinted at the end due to the games commercial and critical performance. On the positive side I think the game looks amazing and they have used the leap in technology from the last game very well. The character creator is also very good, the voice acting is good and the companions are all likeable in unique ways with good quests so this game excels in your interactions with them. The new locations are also very well designed visually and I also enjoyed the combat but this is as someone who absolutely hated the Origins combat. Overall I can see why people were disappointed with this game but I couldn't help but have a good time with it. I think due to it excelling with the more personal relationships in game and the more fast paced combat it probably would've found more success if they focused the story into a smaller scope like following a guild or a mercenary company instead of the usual Dragon Age save the world plot again.
I wish to unsee this game
So, this game is Great for what it is. It's pretty well known that Bioware and the Dragonage team really struggled witht he production of this game. Mainly because of the awful Trend amoung companies to cling to the Live Service Game fad. Which 1000% awful from the go. In spite of being told Several times to change the game frame work, to Live Service to Single Player RPG, To Live Service again and some how settling between the 2. I will admit that this game is a Ginormous failure, It undersold and is not what fans were expecting. Here's where the game excel's. Game play is fluid, the Story is coheesive and enjoyable it's a otherwise Good AAA Fantasy Action RPG with I felt Solid Representation Here's where it fails Your choices from previous games were discarded. this was a cornerstone of why DragonAge games did well, the world felt living and breathing and as a result infintley more engaging. The lingering liveservice elements stink, and it lacks replayability unless you are obssessed like yours truly. That said in the end I really enjoyed it.

10 years. They took 10 years to develop this game and it's so bad. I can't believe EA and Bioware ruined one of the best fantasy franchises we had. Buy it only if it's 80% off or more, don't waste too much money and time on this game. The characters look like they've all been written by an angry teenager. No depth at all. One has a personality based on coffee, another is just annoying each time she talks like a Valley Girl and don't get me started on Taash. And the names...Neve because she does ice magic ? Dellamorte because he's an assassin ? Come on, even a kid would do better. The characters in DAI were so well written in comparison, you could resonate with them and their story. Here, you just want to skip the cutscenes and the cringe that comes with it. Graphics-wise, it's ugly. I don't know how they messed that up as well. It looks like the game went through a Disney filter. The lore ? Forget it, the plot is filled to the brim with incoherent BS. Your choices don't matter either. I've rarely seen that level of shalowness in the dialogues of a video game. The world is collapsing, old gods return and the blight is everywhere but your character will approach each situation with the same childish reaction. The combat system might have some redeeming qualities as it feels more dynamic, especially as a mage. Being able to select your spec right at the start is also nice. Overall, DA Veilguard is an absolute mess. One more franchise ruined by EA and their twisted view of what a video game should be like.
If you're a dragon age fan, this is an awful game. It pays no respect to the trilogy, it ruins the story, the characters, the combat is ok i guess, the puzzles aren't only silly, but the game gives you the solution to them before you can even see what it's about. And it tells and repeats the conflict so many times, you feel like the game thinks you're stupid and treats you as such. Now, if you're NOT a dragon age fan or know nothing of the previous games, it's an ok game. Buy it if you catch it on discount, have a pretty normal time with it. It has its good things, but they're not too many. There're plenty of better rpgs out there.
