I played this game back in 2015, and now that it is on steam, I decided to buy it to support Scriptwelder because they make amazing games! A really well made point and click horror game :)
The Don't Escape anthology are made up by three games not really connected, but they do share a theme. Instead of escaping from somewhere (very common theme in point n click flash games from the 2000s), you instead are preventing to keep something from escaping or getting inside. Much like the Deep Sleep games, these are standard point n click games with the focus of exploration (well, at least the two latter games). I'm excited to play the sequel, Don't Escape: 4!
The first game was solid, just a really nice puzzle game, where we are a werewolf about to transform and want to stop ourselves from slaughtering the village when we transform and become feral. Small in scale, so I solved it all by myself, but it was a good brainteaser nonetheless. The second game was also solid. A zombie apocalypse with a horde incoming, we have to survive the night. Unfortunately, I had to resort to a guide for two things (for those who played, I didn't know how to recruit the Priest and I didn't even realise you can enter a location where the bolt cutters are), but overall it was yet another solid brainteaser. The third game is when the plot finally starts getting more elaborate. The two games above were rather simplistic, but this one had an actual story that you were discovering over the course of the game, with all the notes, multiple endings that weren't just "you died/you survived", but were, let's say, partial victories. And of course, again, it's a brainteaser, this time with an option to revert the decision that ended your previous run and continue from that point. Solid, very solid.
This includes 3 point-and-click adventure games which can each be finished (reach some reasonable ending) in roughly 10-30 minutes. Each plot revolves around preparing to survive from some horrible situation. The short playtime encourages repeat playthroughs to find better or alternate endings. While the first one is mostly linear (there's a clear best ending and that's it), the other two offer more agency: certain items can be used in multiple ways and time becomes a resource (not actually timed, but certain actions "use time") so you can't necessarily do everything. There's a surprising amount of depth to the possibilities in these games despite the limited options presented, which adds a lot to their charm. This trilogy is highly recommended.
