The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to.

This is a very complicated game that is so simply basic. To explain this contradiction: the rules book is 294 pages, but game play is boringly simple. What's complicated about it is learning about the 1000 different types of units and the complicated magic system, The combat and build system is very simple. I became very bored with it after 8 hours. Gave it a good try, but I wish I could have those hours back. 4/10
Что ты такое?
Exactly what I was looking for in a game. Depth and detail unparalleled. Love the retro feel and throwback graphics.

Bardzo dobra gra
Très intéressant, mais pas simple. Ça fourmille de détails hallucinants. Il faut prendre son temps, bien assimiler le tuto et finir par lire tranquillement les 400 pages du manuel. Jeu riche.

multiplayer doesn't work read the hilarious guide. Seems accurate after doing following another guide intended to help. Opened ports, turned off firewall, was not able to connect to friends game. THIS GAME IS PROBABLY NOT MULTIPLAYER. I also should mention that after trying to get it set up in multiplayer, the game bugged so when I opened it the only button was to close it, WOW. TERRIBLE!

Great strategic game play for god-wannabes. Setting up your god-avatar has lots of variability and great choices (from a stationary magic fountain, to some color of dragon, to mythical creatures like a manticore or cyclops--each faction has a selection of god-chassis). Like Greek gods? Be one. Or start as a powerful human wizard or druid. Faction troops are fantasy variants of historical cultures, but massively twisted in creatively magical ways (Roman lizard-riders?). Over twenty factions, each with an "early", "middle" and "late" variation. Troops must be assigned to "leader" units before they can be used aggressively. Magic economy is via seven different colors of magic gems, each representing a specialized type of magic (faux-Incans raid for blood slaves in addition). Site-searching for gems, income, and special places is critical. Magic resources are allocated between "tactical" spells (by giving gems to spell-casting leaders) and campaign-changing "global" spells cast at a laboratory site. Stationary militias can be established to protect your holdings. Once bought, these will regenerate as long as you hold their province. Scouts/spies are available--important to know what you're up against. Some factions have assassins as well. Reliable mercenary bands, as well as wizards and a super-assassin can be hired, if you win the bid. Paint the whole map your religion, slay or dominion-snuff your opponents, and ascend. Strategic movement is a little clunky, but is essentially order assignment to leaders. Turn-end resolution occurs when all orders are in. A results report at the beginning of your next turn allows review of your tactical battles, which run automatically according to your pre-assigned scripting. Retro pixel graphics may not be to everyone's taste. Your tactical control is limited to pre-scripts, so your tactical troop placements and spell assignments are important. This is an exceptional 4x game that multi-plays very differently than solo. In solo there are AI habits you can learn to simplify your life. In multiplayer, the scope for achieving strategic surprise is huge. It's never been off my rig since I bought it. Actually, there's only one bogus thing in this game--and it's awesome! ["no spoiler" alert = not spoiling it!]
