Dojo Masters

Just had my first session versus a friend. He already had the game, and I just watched a video. It looked fun. I do capoeira IRL and of course with the DLC I got curious and bought the game. It's a simple pixel game, but the capoeira is accurate, I was pleasantly surprised! It's impressive what they can do with, yeah you know, just some pixels. It has this old feel to it, in a good way. It brought me down memory lane where I played similar games, but the fighting styles are all unique, they all have their own kit. Instead of roaming some castle like I had to do with only one attack or so, I get to skip all that roaming park in this game and jump right into action with a fully fleshed out fighting style, each one unique. Had a good session vs a friend, switched between the styles, both got surprised with how many moves each fighting style has despite being limited at the same time. Sure got some hype moments there. Quite fun! I only played it with a friend and that'll probably stay. Not many play it. But the game itself is fun so.

Been playing around with this for a few hours now, and yeah, it's fantastic. The game currently has six characters. You only have two buttons for attacking (plus both buttons at the same time, so three inputs in total) and two directions for movement. No high/low mixup game, and no jumping. The health system is also rather unique, invoking the feeling of sparring at a dojo rather than a battle to the death. Makes the whole thing feel less high-stakes and more fun and games. Yet the game is plenty deep. Each character feels vastly different from each of the others, and they all feel good to use. It's just incredible how much variation the developer has managed to make with so few variables. The training mode and trials are solid, if a bit simple, and there is no online ranking yet. The dev plans to add to these in the future along with more characters. I'll be there day one when those come out! Great if you want something fast and easy to learn while focusing on the fundamentals.
