Dino-Ducks Mayhem adds a unique spin on the "20 minutes per run" genre popularized by Vampire Survivors. The Early Access build has a number of rough edges and does not quite feel like a complete game yet, lacking features such as Steam Achievements, but it satisfies that limitless scaling itch by letting you buy each passive item as many times as you can afford (which is quite a lot of times, honestly). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3744804970 Pros: + Familiar, frantic VS-like gameplay. + Multiple main characters with their own unique weapons. + Duckling (sub-character/companion) system offers much potential depth, as they also bring own weapons, upgrade trees, and stat bonuses. Available weapons and craftable upgrades depend on the combination of main character and selected ducklings. + No limit to passive item hoarding. Neutral: ~ 2 manually aimed weapon slots on the main character plus up to four auto-aimed on companion ducklings might not appeal to a number of players, and melee weapons on ducklings often don't feel like they protect you sufficiently. ~ Full auto-aim promised in a future update. ~ No dash. ~ Upgrading weapon stats with the rare secondary currency feels far less impactful than crafting higher-tier weapons and stacking passive items. Cons: - Lacks a lot of the UI quality of life features players are used to in the genre. - Special attack freezes character in place for a long time. - Performance problems/stutter in initial Early Access game build. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3744804058 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3744804255
duck yeah. 🦆 game is fun, but needs work. especially for playability on the steamduck
I have really enjoyed playing this game. The gameplay is engaging and enjoyable, and I have had a great experience with it overall. I look forward to more. One aspect that stands out to me is the artwork, which is very well done and adds a lot to the game's atmosphere. While I think both versions of the game are very good, I prefer this version slightly more than the previous one. The changes and improvements have made the experience more enjoyable for me. That said, I also liked the earlier version and think both are strong in their own ways.
A really fun Vampire Survivors-like that has an unceremonious introduction and a slow start but builds up to an addictive loop of moving across the map, collecting resources and weapons, and creating a build that feels like you're breaking the game. There are a lot of stutter issues (at least on the Steam Deck) the closer you get to the end-game of a map which need to be fixed, but they also (unintentionally) add to the illusion of your "game-breaking" run. There are lots of different item combos that make for new weapons and each weapon has its own fun animations and sound effects. The ultimate chaos at the end of each run is super satisfying. The two big downsides of the game are the music and the UI. The music is pretty low-beat and boring throughout, although the in-game sound-effects aren't too bad. The UI is poorly implemented for controllers and for all the nice art in the game, the effects and animations for stores and menus (and especially the treasure chests) are so uninteresting, when they should be bonkers and over-the-top. Half of the reason why picking up treasures in Vampire Survivors is so fun is because of the crazy animation and music that plays each time. I'll keep playing and keep an eye on the updates. Hopeful that the early access will lead to a 1.0 version someday.
As an Early Access build I'm liking the game a lot! Needs some more metaprogression and overal polish but I seem to keep coming back for some play sessions. Awesome game in my book!
