At this time, I can't recommend this game as it's maybe halfway finished at best, and the last update happened over a year ago. Would like to see the developer provide some indication that they're planning on finishing it. P.S. The fight with the purple guy is ridiculous and could use a little tuning. I can beat ULTRAKILL on brutal difficulty, and am no stranger to tough shooters, but this boss fight was a real struggle. Old review below: I dig the game and all, but the slam jump tutorial is ridiculous (the room with the blades). There were more platforms in the demo version. Are you trying to make me hate myself?
dimensional slaughter is a game with great ideas, references and character designs and visuals. these things are some of my favorite aspects about any video game. however, the execution of said ideas are not so well. for instance, you have a variety of weapons and just like in other games, you should be encouraged to use all of them effectively, right? well some games make it so some weapons are stronger against some enemies, or keep switching weapons so your combo meter doesnt go stale. but in dimensional slaughter, you are forced to use some weapons because you can't damage some enemies without any other weapon. like the cultist enemy only being able to be damaged by the shotgun or the trash drone only being able to be damaged with the sniper rifle, to add insult to injury, you can only damage it when it exposes it's weakpoint. its really hard to focus on one enemy when fifty of others are always up your tail trying to kill you. this get us to another problem i have with dimensional slaughter. the enemy spam and the amount of chaser enemies. i get it, you are supposed to be on your toes all the time in this game, but this isn't a good way to do so. this is also inconsistent amongst the levels because some arenas stop spawning enemies after the portal appears but some continue on spawning them non stop. i'd be fine with enemies keeping spawning if 50 enemies are always chasing us at the same speed as we run or they stopped spawning after the portal appears in each arena. the game gives no breather in stages. my other biggest complaint is that all the weapons using the same ammo so if you're out of ammo you can't use any other weapon untill you pick up an ammo box around the stage or use the shocker punch, which i get it, again, it is so you're always on your toes and you have a reason to use the shocker punch. but it really isn't that great of an idea to have all the weapons use the same ammo as the developer thought. another big complaint i have is and this is really annoying for me, in any other game too, the re-use of boss enemies appearing as normal enemies after you defeat them. some games do it well, some games do it bad, there is no in between and dimensional slaughter definitely is doing it bad. i already talked about the cultist and the trash drone enemies, those are okay with their mechanics when they are just bosses (being only damaged by certain weapons, waiting for softspots, etc.) but when the game turns them into a common enemy, it really starts to get annoying. you already have 50 enemies on your tail and you add bosses? no that is not fun or challenging its just bad. and my last complaint is, the game is too linear to be a roguelike. personally, i dont like roguelikes and the game being linear is a good thing for me, but the game forces itself to be a roguelike when it clearly would profit more of being a linear level by level game. the having to restart all the way from the beginning and the upgrades you ger after each arena (none of the upgrades are noticeable btw.) are really unnecessary and shows the game is forcing itself to be a roguelike. you know i would still give this game a positive review despite all this because i genuinely want the game to be better because i like it, but the main reason i sadly give it a negative review is, it being abandoned. the developer, manliest dev, abandoned this early access title and he keeps on starting other projects and games instead of working on dimensional slaughter. a game with great and promising ideas. a game that deserves more care from the developer and a fine polish to perfect the game. but sadly, even though manly personally loves this game, the lack of updates since years and his focus on other projects, left this game abandoned and that's why i recommend you not to buy an unfinished game that probably never will be in near future.
Guns and movement feel like trash
Dimensional Slaughter A very, very flashy arena Shooter where a couple 100 guys come at you all at once, shooting regains health and the point is to clear areas in lightning fast speed. It is very chaotic.. flashy.. nonsensical mess but the traversal and traps make for some fun moments. I will give it a positive but coming from a retro Boomer Shooter fan I am not overly impressed with the weapon feed back, art design and mobs that fill your screen. Playing this on anything higher than easy is pure punishment. Game is rather hard. 6/10
its fun but its so impossibly hard
An obvious Ultrakill derivative with some glaring flaws, but the unique qualities it brings are enjoyable enough that I would suggest trying it out
Extremely difficult Extremely unforgiving But also extremely fun Would recommend it to people who like games that are borderline unfair
I like the kind of game that is already killing me at the tutorial.
