Been playing on and off since its release, always a great game to come back to. 10/10 would recommend.
Coming from a huge roguelike lover this absolutely sits at the table with the giants. I find myself coming back to the game over and over and over again always finding something to enjoy. The game does a spectacular job at presenting some level of difficulty while encouraging you to break the game in any way you can find. Different classes play different and reward you for playing in different ways. The dice mechanic is a ton of fun and always presents a new thing to do in the game. Couldn't recommend enough. The only thing i wish was different was that there was more fishing. BUY BUY BUY!!!!
Unique
A VERY clever little roguelite. I have a few things that I dislike, but many things that I love. Pros: - The Mana / Card system is extremely clever. To utilize powerful cards, you need to discard, manipulate and play around your current deck and hand. - The Dice is such a fun mechanic. I was somewhat sad at how it affected the Purple Mist, however, as I have played the game, I've found that the amount of ways to utilize the dice is HUGE, and a majority of the time, you can win without even modifying card values. Even tiny interactions like reducing enemy Buffs, changing the Check values of events, it's all perfect. Hell, the way that it effects your Mana pool and the Injury mechanic for the fire orb is just beautiful. - The card and effect variety in this game is so refreshing. Every time I play a Roguelike, I expect Slay the Spire effects, anything out of Magic the Gathering, etc. But I was super surprised to see awesome and unique effects like Load, Summon, Construct, Phantom, Flow. It's super f*cking cool. - The art & music is perfect. Cinema. No notes. I would love to hear more music, and have a few more unique card animations. It's real good. I'm sad that theres very little depth to the OST, but the combat track fits perfectly for a chill lil game. Cons: (These are barely cons btw) - The progression is bad. The unlocks are fun, relic unlocks are cool and all, but the amount of coins you get to buy them is FAR too much. You could unlock everything after around 4 completions. If I had a say, I'd multiply all the costs by 4, and lock each Teir by the Ascension difficulty. That may SOUND harsh, but I think that a slow learning curve for this game would make it easier to pick up. - The way the Die interacts with the cards discourages unique combos. On one hand, I think that there are enough mechanics in the game itself that balance the way the dice can be used. Dice Cheat MAX, Luck and Dice upgrades can consistently provide you high numbers for your cards. This justifies all of the mechanics (Distorted Relics and Cards) that stop you from getting broken cards. I do think that there is a way to encourage finding unique combos early in game progression, such as adding distortion to ascension difficulty. This lets new players (Or players wanting to test the waters of a cool combo) play without restrictions. Obviously, I have little say, I don't think theres going to be any changes to the game, but one can hope) Overall, spectacular little game. Buy on sale. Trust me.
