My opinion of this game has severely changed since my first playthrough in 2022, I believe it's ending serves its purpose well despite how binary the way to make the choice is, I believe there is someone who can choose any option and believe that's what's best for the world, even if I dont particularly agree with their choice. Without spoiling, the ending changes the future of the world depending on what message you choose to send, and to who's agenda you want to further, or noone's agenda at all. I think the message of transhumanism, societal value, and the human condition are very prevalent especially in the modern age we are in now, with the rise of Artificial Intelligence, DNA Splicing Technologies, and various advancements that can alter the future of mankind for better or worse, Overall 8.5 out of 10, will replay again sometime for the 100%
There's something strangely wholesome about this game that I can't quite put my finger on. I don't know if it's because it adequately deals with transhumanist themes in a relatable, non-Malthusian fashion...or if it's just the succinct motion capture and voice acting. Probably both things. If you have a tough time with RPGs or First Person Shooters, you'll really dig this game. Human Revolution rewards you for planning things out, it doesn't overtly punish you for making mistakes and it's quite challenging if you really want to go for a 'perfect' playthrough (which is more my thing). Overall, the combat is pitch perfect: there isn't too much to do in each 'level' or mission, but there is just enough to make you feel like your approach was wholly unique. The team that made this game clearly understands that 'feature bloat' ruins games. I often think that this game, Uncharted 2 and Crysis 2 are the some of the last games which didn't hold the player's hand too much...or give the player braindead 'visual cues' on where to go and what to do. There's a beautiful symmetry to how you can observe something somewhat hidden in Human Revolution's game world (a grate two stories above you) and then 'act' on that impulse to give yourself an advantage in the mission (stacking boxes to get up to said grate). The games which built on what Human Revolution did (games mostly from Arkane Studios) seem to be disregarded in the current gaming culture; it really goes to show how dilapidated game design became after the 2009 - 2012 period. Don't bother playing the 2000s Deus Ex (it's overrated, janky and only 'adored' by people who want to avoid real truths about global politics) just play this game instead.
fun
Still super good. Played loads of it on xbox. UI gets tiny beyond 1080p and theres stutter issues at high framerates. But it's still a great game.
