I don’t love the cinematic approach to stealth, and the game feels really overbloated with the DLC hamfisted in between. But that’s not enough to destroy what’s otherwise a really competent stealth game all around.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director's Cut is far more than an excellent cyberpunk action RPG. It is one of the most intelligent, thought-provoking, and mature games of its generation. From the very beginning, the game immerses players in a world standing on the brink of a technological revolution. Cybernetic augmentations promise to eliminate disease and overcome human limitations, but they also raise profound questions: Where is the line between human and machine? Can progress be stopped? And does anyone have the right to decide what humanity’s future should look like? Human Revolution's greatest achievement is its refusal to offer easy answers. Instead of presenting a simple conflict between good and evil, it places the player in the middle of a clash of ideas, where every side has compelling arguments. The themes of progress, freedom, and responsibility are explored with remarkable nuance, encouraging reflection long after the credits roll. The gameplay perfectly reinforces these ideas. Nearly every objective can be approached in multiple ways: through stealth, combat, diplomacy, hacking, or a combination of methods. The game constantly reminds players that choice is not limited to dialogue options—it is woven into every aspect of how they interact with the world. Yet the true brilliance of Deus Ex reveals itself in its ending. Players are not merely asked to choose between competing ideologies. They can embrace technological progress, prioritize individual freedom, or support moral restraints and oversight. But there is also a fourth path: refusing to impose a personal vision on humanity and instead allowing people to make their own choice. Few games dare to offer not only a choice of outcomes, but also a choice about who should have the right to decide. The Director's Cut enhances an already outstanding experience with improved balance, redesigned boss encounters, and all additional content integrated into a single definitive edition. Even years after its release, Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director's Cut remains a shining example of how video games can do more than entertain. It demonstrates the unique ability of the medium to explore complex philosophical questions and challenge players intellectually. Stylish, atmospheric, deeply human, and unapologetically ambitious, it stands as one of the finest cyberpunk games ever made and a masterpiece of the immersive sim genre. 10/10
Tone, music, atmosphere - all excellent. One of my favourite games.
Clasico
