Reviews
Does a really good job setting a creepy/horror tone, then transitioning from a paranormal/fantastical horror to the horrors encountered under martial law, SA, and other life atrocities. Very engaging story/storytelling. Definitely a worthwhile quick play.
6.8 I must be wildly missing something with this considering what praise I see it get. That said it was really good but it just never felt like much more to me and it annoys myself that I feel this way about it. As a game it kind of feels mixed in what it going to do. The first half has you wandering through the environment going from area to area maneuvering around monsters and solving puzzles. There are a couple different monster types too so that was interesting, and they both have their own meaning thematically toward the grander narrative. The second half the game just forgoes having any kind of enemies really to then just trudge through the rest of the narrative. The story itself for the most part I am mixed on, it's a deep blow from many different angles as you experience it, albeit certain aspects I just didn't really connect with. On the other hand some of them were very relatable but just didn't really evoke anything from me. I am very mixed with how the game handles the ending. I won't spoil the ending directly but it just felt 'weird'. I progressed normally and got the general ending which rounded out portions of the story but still left me just feeling kind of unfulfilled. I saw that there was another ending which I reloaded the chapter and got and that hit me like a truck with emotion which I think was a brilliant rounding off to the grand perspective that was put down. The main reason I'm mixed though from a more 'game' perspective is that I think it would be possible to accidentally stumble into my second ending of the game, which would then leave a whole portion just unanswered? Especially if you didn't know there was the alternative which outside of a related achievement there's no real hint. I wanted to love it but in the end I just never really connected with how/what the game was telling and from a game aspect it just feels confused in how it wants to go about things. Half of the ending broke me though.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 16: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

I heard about this game from my professor and was curious what the themes were. I was shocked with how this game played out. Horror themes were unnerving, spooking me at some points. The monster designs were fine and did their part but the human stuff was creepy. Overall 8/10
This is an easy recommendation for anyone who even remotely likes horror games. Equal parts classic adventure game, Silent Hill 2 and Asian ghost story, this one is short but sweet. Localization is good, but a lot of the signs are of course lost on me. If you speedrun this you could probably finish in maybe 2-3 hours, but you'll be missing a lot of the atmosphere. Take your time, drink it in, and while the twist ending is maybe kind of obvious by the halfway point of the game, it will leave you pleasantly disturbed. As far as complaints? None really, though the whole "Lingered" thing seems underdeveloped, like the devs added it early on, but decided it wasn't really working and just abandoned it halfway through the story but didn't remove it entirely. I can see the thematic reasons why they didn't (can't say more without spoilers) but it is a little odd that enemies just...stop showing up. Pick it up if you can, don't let any culture differences shy you away. You won't regret it.
스토리 불친절하다. 이해하기 존나 힘듦. 유투버가 설명해준거 보고 또하는 애들 아니면 이거 즐기기 힘들다. 사운드나 분위기는 괜찮게 만들었는데 스토리는 별로다.
Detention is a really good horror game, especially if you like games with a strong story. It focuses more on psychological horror rather than just trying to scare you, and the atmosphere makes the game feel really creepy. What I liked most was the story and how it connects to Taiwan’s history. Some parts were confusing at first, but everything starts to make more sense as you progress. It also has a deeper meaning behind the horror, which made the story more interesting. It’s not a very long game, but I think it uses its time really well. Definitely recommend it if you want a horror game that has more to offer than just jump scares.
Absolute masterpiece of a game! Amazing story and puzzles! Get it!!!
