Holy early access heck. This game will come out after the world ends, been in early access for what feels like almost 10 years at this point. I don't think it's ever coming out save your money.
I'll write a review because it's frankly disheartening to see so many people say this game is abandoned or never coming out. The development team is small and while that's no excuse, I'd like to point out that unlike most developers the man literally posts a dev log of what he does everyday and I mean everyday of the updates he's doing behind the scenes. I love this game genuinely and I'm so excited for it's eventual release, and I think more people should be too. Just let the man cook please, the game is fun even in the early stage that it's in and I can't wait for the weird stuff that's gonna happen when it comes out. Thanks d:D
The game is fantastic. 5 years to finish it? NO Buy it on sale less than 10 otherwise skip it, because the devs wasted too much time.
So, I got a bit to say after beating the game. At least getting to the end of the final area currently available. First off I'd like to say I did enjoy it, a lot. This game took a bunch of my time, and will take more. Despite the criticisms I'll lay out I still think it's 100% worth the money and worth keeping an eye on, for when it's finished. It will take awhile since the dev team is small, but they show a dedication to continuing the project and it's already in the later stages of development. So I'll start off with what I liked (spoiler free for the story) In spoiler free terms regarding the story, I'll just say I'm enjoying it. it goes in the good category, I have some nitpicks but I'll put those in the critique section. the movement, and general gameplay is very fun, and one of my favorites in terms of isometric RPGs as someone who has played A LOT of them. It has a few different way's to approach combat, through stealth, (which literally cloaks you, I find that awesome) where you can slowly work your way around a crowd of enemies to get away, or backstab them. You can use heavy weapons, small ones. Guns, rockets, energy blasters, or a giant curved sword which slices enemies in half. In multiple areas you can also use usually 2 different skills to bypass or get around combat. Occultism and Cybertech. overall gameplay was really enjoyable. It also is pretty difficult, if you don't manually save, but they allow you to if you would rather not have it be too punishing. moving to the next thing. The artstyle, is perfect for what the game is, it's very grungy and gross at times and leaves many things up to imagination, with it's low bit presentation. I really like that and it's really making me want to draw. The artstyle helps make many locations for the most part very memorable, with names and landmarks that stuck in my head helping make travel easier. The atmosphere of the game is incredible, clearly took a lot of inspiration from classic Fallout with it's own body horror, alien spin on it. The industrial ambient tracks help sell that desolate, dead feeling the world has. Like they are echoing through barren land. Though the world is still kicking. I also like that you can pretty much go anywhere and kill anyone right off the bat. It doesn't chain you down to one spot which I love. The weapon variety is very nice, and the designs are fun. I'm happy they made most of the upgraded versions of the weapons from superior to exceptional have unique designs. I really like the energy weapons. The enemies are very cool looking, The flesh monsters look properly gross, but also interesting to look at. The machine designs are amazing and incredibly unique I loved to just see them around. This extends to the NPC designs as well, even The Titans. especially he Titans, they are just amazing examples of body horror, every single one. And they are all incredibly memorable. The enemies themselves are also pretty fun to fight against, with a lot of cool abilities to learn and combat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok now time for my critiques about the game. forgive me if they are a bit disjointed I'm writing this off the cuff. also minor spoilers Firstly, I'm aware that doing this would be really difficult I'm a pixel artist myself, but the game needs some variety in clothing options, even just in basic character creation. I found what is currently there kinda, lackluster if you want to actually do any real roleplay in this world. The roleplay aspect is something else I wanted talk about. With the game itself, despite the path laid out being pretty enjoyable. Is pretty linear, which isn't really something I like in a roleplaying game. There doesn't seem to my knowledge to be any way to progress unless you do things in a very particular way. I'd like if there were a few different way's you could gain the knowledge to progress through certain quests or paths you could go to do so. I like that the city has a bit of this, but it's lacking in the majority of the game. I would also like it if basic jobs were a thing in the game, even if it's a later addition. Things that let you make money while getting more into who your character is supposed to be. Examples, like being the doctor's assistant for some extra cash, Caravans like in Fallout, to escort and protect, or bounty hunting. Just to flesh out the world and the player character both. There's not too much of that in the game as is, your character seems kinda stagnant from when they come out of that bunker to the end because I don't feel the game gives enough ways to roleplay as a part of this world to the player. This is currently my biggest issue as it means there is never a single reason to return to a place after you complete their quests. For the shops sure, but no character reason. My other critiques are smaller. Like I feel it's very jarring that after you've done something a character talked about, you and them will repeat dialog like it never happened. For example, the priests outside of The Mother's Temple. You literally just talked to her but you are them will still talk like you didn't. I was also sad that the Cyborg Slug Thrower was a reused asset instead of the same weapon that the robots use. I always imagined it being integrated with your body which is why you cannot take it off, but it just being a Buzzer kinda makes that hard to parse. Also in New Delphi you are seemingly incapable of telling the High Priest about the heart, even though that's seemingly the most important part, and how the harp on the fact there was "blood everywhere" seemed a bit strange.
It's been in early access for a long, long time. But if you dig into their blog you will see that they are still working on it and I think they will eventually get it over the line. Consider waiting till then to purchase.
i love this game. it makes me feel nostalgic, its kinda bittersweet..? the gameplay is fun, the characters interesting, humorous sometimes, tragic others. the setting is strange and i love it. i like the mechanics, its fun to mess about with your characters abilities. First game i think ive played where vomiting a purpose is an actual game mechanic idk, its a pretty cool game overall. so, buy it, you ingrate ok bye
Great game. The premise and promise found in the trailer of this game delivers. It is actually as cool as it looks. Full stop that's all you need to know. But heres some more details - Themes/Atmosphere: If you see the trailer you'll see how this is a really strong point. This is a Weird Horror/Cronenbergy, punky, gritty post apocalyptic wasteland with a strong story/plot and weird and memorable characters. THE MEAT. Mechanics: The combat feels right, the movement, the interractions. Swinging feels weighty and satisfying. Its easy to get swarmed and you get punished for being careless but its never unfair. Overall: It has all the makings of a classic. Buuuuut all people want to talk about is the speed of updates and progress toward release. I understand the impatience to a degree, but seriously even at an unfinished state its one of the most memorable games Ive ever played. I encourage this one guy to keep going you are making something truly amazing.
Progress until the final product has been slow but what's here is awesome. I'm really excited to see what the final vision looks like. Honestly, the Dev seems like a chill person and I stand behind supporting the project but it is fully understandable if someone wouldn't want to invest in a Early Access game with no clear end date. 7/10 from what I have played so far but buyer beware it's been a long development Also note: The dev regularly posts progress reports on the steam forums.
The Game is still not finish, after 4 years..... Its frustating buying a Game at nearly full Prize and then it needs Years to come out full. Do not Buy this Game untill its finish, I warn you, you will be waiting and waiting for nothing.....
