I'm the composer and I think I did a pretty good job.
I enjoyed my time with it to a point I did most of the side objectives but don’t expect anything groundbreaking. Hacking is a little bit clunky and requires getting used to it. Sometimes it makes things interesting and fun and sometimes it’s easier and faster to ignore it and run’n’gun. When it comes to action Deadwire might look like Hotline Miami but both you and enemies have more health which makes it feel a bit different (I had GTA 2 flashbacks). On a few occasions I had a feeling that it tries to be too many things at the same time unnecessarily complicating thighs. I’ve encountered some bugs but most of them were already ironed out by the developer. The story is basic but does its job well without making things awkward. What carries the whole thing is dialogs that are well written. If you ever played a Tom Francis game you’ll get a similar vibe. And now that I’ve mentioned Tom this game reminds me a bit of Heat Signature. When it comes to sound there’s a positive review of the composer somewhere here where he says he did a good job and he didn’t lie. Music is good. Visuals have some really nice touches here and there (characters pic during dialogs, UI) but sometimes the screen gets busy and it’s hard to distinguish what can block you or bullets leading to occasional frustration on unexpected deaths. To sum it up, read what dev wrote at the end of the Steam page. The game is exactly that. It won’t land on any of my top lists but I’ll keep an eye on future things developed by Shotgun Anaconda. Good to know (no spoilers): - Game can be finished in 4-5h if you ignore the side objective. Going for side objective will double the time and time trials will extend it even more. - It’s easier to do side objectives after finishing the game. Some might be even possible only after doing so. - Only god mode blocks progression so feel free to use cheats (confirmed by developer).
Wasn't expecting to care so much about the characters and story in an action shooter thing, but it's actually quite the package! The hacking system is a great addition to the Hotline Miami style gameplay, with fun moments like frying groups of gangsters with a well-timed laser or crashing into them through a wall with a runaway car. Also, there's a dancing little ASCII emoji enjoying the bangin soundtrack alongside you at all times ( ദ്ദി ˙ᗜ˙ )
DeadWire is a fast, stylish, and endlessly creative top-down action game that takes the best elements of tactical shooters and layers them with clever hacking mechanics. Dynamic hacking + combat... Every encounter feels fresh thanks to the ability to rewire enemies, traps, and the environment itself. Chain linking explosions, disabling cyborg gang members and turning the level scenery to your advantage feels great. I especially enjoyed hitting bikers with their own bikes! Slick retro presentation with neon lit visuals, atmospheric sound design (and INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK) and a sharp cyberpunk setting, DeadWire is as good to look at as it is to play, and as fantastic to listen to as it is to look at. Replay is rewarding. Levels encourage (and expect) experimentation, with side objectives, time challenges, and score chasing that reward both creativity and skill. Perfect flow of strategy + action... It strikes a great balance between planning hacks and diving into firefights but still keeping the pace exciting without feeling overwhelming. Built for players who like options... no matter if you prefer methodical stealth or all out action, DeadWire supports different playstyles and makes them all feel satisfying. DeadWire delivers a new twist on the top-down shooter formula. It’s stylish, smart, and consistently fun... a must-play for anyone who enjoys cyberpunk action with depth and likes a challenge. Highly Recommended.
I'm really enjoying the game so far. The enemies are fun to fight. They are unpredictable, deadly and there's a good variety of them. The hacking puzzles might look simple on paper, but quite a few of them made me stop and think. I know the game is mainly about hacking, but when a level has a banger soundtrack, you just can't help but go in guns blazing. Both the art and soundtrack are excellent. I'm currently on Act 2 and I highly recommend the game so far.
Great game. The linking mechanik feels really good and motivates to try out different combos. This combined with the soundtrack creates a good flow, played for an hour and it feeld like 10 minutes.
