Great great game
Space Bandit leaves you with a pounding heart in no time. The simplicity and aesthetics of it all makes me predict it will become a classic (even amidst a recession pushed by big capital, for anyone who actually understands economics LAWLZ). The game is its own thing although I can't avoid having the best moments of Hotline Miami as traumatic flashbacks every time I push [START].
Great developer
which is very involved and regularly updating the game to whatever discussion is going on in Discord among players. The feeling of Hardcore mode has become greatly immersive thanks to such updates. But he is also loco, I got the game for nickels This is the kind of game where having good reflexes doesn't hurt although
you can always strategize
(but do it FAST 'cause you're slow and already dead you rotten a55h0le!). Space Bandit
works beautifully
in both GNU/Linux based machines of mine (Fedora, Debian Unstable) so it should work great on Steamdeck and Windows too. And the best part is you
don't need big system resources
, so you can always load it in your laptop to decompress from whatever tedious activity your day was going about. In a scale from A to F, I give it a solid 9! It doesn't have the intricate story of Hotline but this s*t is deeper than you think, son!, aside from a nice procedural level up structure and great pace.
Do NOT miss on it!

Edit: I got ALL of the achievements!!
I couldn't be happier after playing 22 hours in addition to my almost 2 at review time. And it was just as a casual to me! I wish I could play more, but now it's time to go play another 200 games and then come back to this jewel. Never got older! I'm glad frustration didn't kill me.

It's NOT a hotline miami 3 and nothing even remotely close to hotline miami at all
My original review was negative, but the developer released a patch that addressed pretty much every previous criticism -- and the game feels absolutely fantastic now. It has instantly ascended into the upper echelons of my personal roguelite favorites. Insanely fast-paced, twitchy-yet-tactical gunplay to satisfy your Nuclear Throne or Hotline Miami needs, delivering challenging and satisfying combat in spades. Kill fast, die fast, respawn fast as you vibe to the grungy electronic OST. I can't wait to play more! ----------- Original review, for posterity: Fun at its core, but there are too many rough edges for me to really gel with this game. The basic gameplay loop -- spawn into a small floor and mow down enemies with quick precision -- is incredibly fun. For this reason, if I were judging the game solely off the first zone, it's excellent. However, each subsequent zone has a gimmick and, while I get that they're in place to give each zone a unique feel, they fall flat. Zone 2 is a melee-only section, and, honestly, it's a complete clunker. The intense run-and-gun action from Zone 1 suddenly hits a huge speed bump, as the game forces you to forgo your ranged weapons and pick up a single melee weapon. The tactical bullet-fest that makes Zone 1 a joy to gun through is abandoned completely as the game forces you to go through melee combat, which, considering the player character dies in one hit, feels incredibly shoehorned, with inconsistent blocking mechanics present on the melee weapons. I've seen "melee cuts through enemy bullets" done well in these types of games, but it's just not the case here. The melee in Space Bandit just doesn't mesh well with the core pacing and mechanics of the game, but you're FORCED to encounter it every run. This really killed my desire to start a new run each time I died, as knowing the melee slog was inevitably coming up was a total buzzkill. The Zone 2 boss is also incredibly confusing -- he's invisible, but there's not a clear way to track him, especially when he goes to hide in a vent, which I discovered on accident after somehow managing to kill him during a few different runs? Maybe I'm missing something, but whether or not I killed him felt random. I just ran around slashing with my melee weapon and hoped I won. I'm not entirely sure if invisibility is a bug or intended design? Similarly to Zone 2, Zone 3 has its own mechanic, and it's utilizing smokescreens -- but again, this just sort of kills the pace. I was hoping that, after zone 2's forced melee, I'd get back to the guns-blazing action, but, instead, the game pulls back on the weapon drops and forces you utilize smoke cover for kills. Again, I understand the intent is to give Zone 3 a unique feel, but it's just not as fun as Zone 1. At least the boss is clearly visible, though. Honestly, I just wish a full run of Space Bandit was essentially Zone 1 three or four times, with the difficulty ramping up as you collect upgrades and get new weapons. I appreciate the experimentation in each Zone, but the gimmicky mechanics make playing through them less fun than if they weren't there in the first place. I don't want to rag on the game too much, as there's a lot to love -- the art is great, the music & sound design are fantastic, and, as mentioned, the gameplay during Zone 1 is just perfect. The humor is great, too. But, after clearing Zone 1, it just feels like each run gets less fun as I go on. It's a shame, as the fundamental design of the game has so much potential. With a very modest six buck price tag, this game may be worth you checking out on your own. But, personally, I have no desire to keep playing knowing that I'll only really enjoy the first quarter of a run.
A very fast paced game with lots of emphasis on speed. The combat is smooth and crisp (at least for me), the face paced nature of each run means you can play a small run or two between tasks. It does have that Hotline Miami feel to it, the video and screenshots are pretty much what you get in game! Worth the price? Yes, you'd spend more on a cup of coffee most likely. Is it difficult? Sure is, but it does bring back that nostalgic gaming feeling where you try again and again till you succeed. The enemies are pretty smart for the kind of game it actually is, so you might be caught off guard if you're expecting old-school type AI. Sound is really good too, on point and quite fun to listen to. For those wondering if you can play with a keyboard/mouse, yes you can! However, I would probably recommend twin stick controller, even though I'm a keyboard-mouse player myself. I imagine it would be easier if you were used to those instead. Since I think the analogue effect of the joysticks might give more critical response than a keyboard.
A savory infusion of violence skillfully crafted by melding the style of Hotline Miami into the Sci-Fi genre
the game is quite the fantastic experience, is a fast paced, top down shooter with amazing soundtrack, great gunplay and a genious AI, a must buy
One of the most confusingly bad games I've ever played. Constantly getting shot from off screen, have no idea how to beat the third boss (whether or not it's the third is a guess, the first two have so little impact I beat them pretty much without realising they exist - I know I've beaten them from my achievements). It even calls itself 'one hit kill' in the game description when it's not - it's straight up not telling the truth about that. Reading another review, I see that the secret to boss 3 is using smoke grenades. Yes, but, hear me out: the smoke mechanic isn't enjoyable to me, and I'm not interested. So, overall, this game is hugely disappointing, and I don't like playing it. Low score / 10. Edit: I beat boss 3 (without it being fun), got through a few more levels (without enjoying myself) and then the game crashed. Hilarious.
Not bad.
Fantastic game. As a big fan of rogue-lite genre, I was gladly surprised with Space Bandits. The game is beautiful and the mechanics are very polished. I love the effort working on small details (such as blood spilled all over you). Special mention to music and sound, simply amazing, gets you so pumped! Enemies are very smart so be careful with these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lol. Overall, this game is FUN TO PLAY. Pure adrenaline. Do not miss on this one! Also important, the developer often involved in discussions listening to players, constantly working on new updates. So, if you have any suggestion or find some bugs that need to be fixed, please stop by Discord and leave some feedback!
