Deadly Premonition is one of the most fantastic, mindblowing, and mesmerizing games in the entire world. It's like a carcrash, you really just can't look away from this disaster. Unfortunately, the version on steam is the absolute worst port ever made. The original version of the game was a buggy mess but it was charming. This version is literally unplayable. You crash constantly for doing anything and everything. The game "forces" you to download DPfix but that is just putting a band-aid on a decapitation. It barely works and the fix can't stop the pure assault of every glitch and bug this game has. I've put 9.5 hours into the game and I can't take anymore. Out of those almost 10 hours, 3-4 of it has been loading screen and crashes. The hospital is a high crash zone and took me 2 hours and another save just to get past it due to the crashes. It's embarrassing. I hate it Everything about this port needs to be studied in exactly how not to do this. The fact that this is still available on steam is a slap in the face and the fact that it has been a decade and we still don't have any "good" way to play this game pisses me off to no end. It is shockingly bad and everyone involved in it should be ashamed of themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71mje8A_F9s

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The game is great! There's nothing else quite like it! It's like a Twin Peaks Inspired detective based immersive sim where you play as a strange FBI agent solving mysteries in a small town. It's free roaming but, the main missions are linear. Kinda reminds me of Heavy Rain except that you can drive around and shoot things and the story has a more supernatural bent. I'd have to detract some points because it crashes every now and then but, i'd still say to get the game on sale if it looks like something that interests you. It's frequently on sale for like 2 bucks and I can think of a lot worse ways to spend that amount of money.
York is peek. Game is mostly good, but doesn't work at times. 8/10 for the ultimate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Without a doubt, one of the best games I've ever played!! Has issues with buggy Steam port, but still 100% worth experiencing. I'll start by acknowledging a really apparent flaw with Deadly Premonition, to get it out of the way. The Steam port of this game is notoriously difficult to play. It crashes constantly. You have to implement a bunch of different fixes to make the game even playable - Files from the community to 'fix' the game, RivaTuner to cap the framerate, etc etc. While Deadly Premonition is absolutely worth suffering through crashes for, it's important to note that it *is* incredibly irritating to get working on Steam. There are ways around the crashing, though, and there are ways to play DP on other platforms or get other versions of the game to work on PC. I would highly *highly* recommend trying an alternative version, because the game is absolutely worth it. Let's move on to the positives. This'll be spoiler-free! Deadly Premonition is a game that has extremely memorable environments, stories, and characters. The cast is eccentric in the best way. It's very similar to Twin Peaks in the sense that it's not afraid to be weird in its story direction and sense of humor. The main character of the story, Francis York Morgan, is hilariously odd in his own way. But every character in this game is extremely well-written, with well fleshed out backstories and interesting personalities. The story itself is also intriguing. It definitely delves into the weird symbolic side of storytelling, but I'm personally a fan, and I think the method of storytelling in DP adds a lot to the meaning behind the game. In addition, almost every side mission in this game has an engaging story as well. There are twists and turns in the story that I never personally expected, but that were set up well in my opinion. While some story elements may seem far-fetched when they're first revealed, if you look back at past scenes, every plot point is set up or alluded to before it actually happens. It's very satisfying in this way, because paying attention and thinking critically in this game actually pays off! As a game that centers around a murder mystery, it helps with immersing yourself in the world - It makes you feel like an FBI agent alongside York, almost. The mechanics of the game can be clunky, but I personally think that they add to the game's charm. As someone who has 103 hours in DP at the time of writing this review, the combat mechanics aren't hard to get used to. Fights against certain enemies can feel repetitive at times, but this can be counteracted by doing missions to get better/more effective tools and weapons throughout the game. There are a *lot* of interesting and handy weapons(and even vehicles!) sprinkled throughout the game that rewards the player for doing side missions and getting immersed in the world of Greenvale. And, by the way, the side missions are actually worth playing. They're not just simple fetch quests, they almost always have interesting stories/tidbits of lore themselves. The sound design is genuinely hilarious (most, if not all(?) Not sure on this point) are stock sound effects. The voice acting leaves a bit to be desired sometimes, but it weirdly works well with the wacky tone of the game. The character animations are also pretty charming too. Overall, this is definitely a rare case of a game being so bad it's good. Deadly Premonition is absolutely worth a playthrough (or two or three!) While it may be frustrating to get to work, the charming atmosphere and hilarious characters make for a really memorable and positive experience. It's definitely one of my favorites, and I'll never forget the experience of playing it! TL;DR: DP's Steam port can be very frustrating to deal with, but there are ways around that. It's worth working around, because the game has a memorable, intriguing story with amazing characters and charming missions. The mechanics feel clunky at first but feel smoother after playing for a few hours, and the combat can be given more variety by earning weapons and vehicles through side missions(Which are actually fun and interesting and not just fetch quests.) I'd recommend this game to anyone, any day of the week!
Game literally does not work. I don't care how many fixes people talk about and how many workarounds you can try, this game is in an unacceptable condition on this store. Do not buy this game (and maybe buy something cool like D4 Dark Dreams Don't Die instead)
Я знал, что тут игра, так сказать, с приколом, но она даже после часовых танцев с бубном не хочет запускаться на win11. Снимайте с продажи тогда уж.
The game has soul and is charming but unfortunately the PC version is just broken. It does not work. Despite trying all the fixes, patches and mods, you will most likely still experience crashing and game breaking bugs. Get the PS3 version of the game and enjoy it. Do not touch the PC version
I'd heard from many that this twin-peaks inspired noire was a surreal and unique experience worth trying, and was fairly warned there would be some technical issues. Jank doesn't bother me, and the game is indeed weird in a very intriguing way, so I was ready to be hooked in and see it through. Turns out the term "technical issues" is being generous. What nobody mentions are the absurd levels of time wasters, padding, and near constant crashes. Together, they created a feedback loop that very quickly ate up my patience. I acknowledge the intrigue is great and the story can be rewarding, but not enough to make up for how much better off you'd be just watching it on youtube instead.
It'd be pretty easy to give this game a negative review because of the glaring crashes, janky ass gameplay, and overall issues that this game has but if you REALLY push through the ♥♥♥♥ you get to experience a very unique, campy, cozy, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wacky parody of Twin Peaks and Silent Hill, much like experiencing the taste of the Sinner's Sandwich for the first time I'd imagine.
Playing this game (PC port specifically) is a true labour of love. But it was worth it for me in the end for the utterly delightful, schlocky and charmingly quirky experience that Deadly Premonition is as a whole. I went in completely blind playing this and oh lord did I love it despite the many technical and mechanic related downfalls there are too playing it. And I know I really love it because with a mediocre game I would have rage quit and uninstalled it at many points in my play-through. I'll start with the bad so you know what you're in for: >You MUST go through the effort of installing fixes and mods or you simply can't even play this version (it literally won't work lol) >You'll need to persist through many crashes and reboots and I mean MANY to play it. Sometimes you will just get plain pissed off and turn it off for the day lol. >The quick time events are god-awful. Literally the worst I've ever experienced. >The sound balance can get really annoying in terms of the music randomly being way louder than people speaking in some cut-scenes, then being balanced fine in other scenes. >The combat and driving mechanics are pretty average, but honestly I didn't find them that bad- they're serviceable. Things I loved: -The pure unhinged, amusing hilarity that is the entire experience with York, Zach and the story overall. The characters and the writing are what make the game great. There is a real quirky charm here for people who are a fan of media like Twin Peaks (the influence is strong and noticeable) as well as campy, schlocky movies/tv. If you're not expecting to take it too seriously, you'll have fun. It's not meant to be a gritty, realistic detective story. It's meant to be fun and leans into being ridiculous. -The music gives the entire vibe and atmosphere to the experience- I just love it. Especially the main theme when you boot up the game- I find it so calming and chill. -The voice acting is really good, especially for York. -I think the beginning of the game is stronger than the ending portion of the game, but I loved York's arc at the end. -I loved the open world aspect of the game, getting to roam around and quite literally spy in people's windows. My recommendations if you're going to give this game a go are: -Install the mods and fixes available (if you do a quick google- there are people that have done guides to help with this). -To get the full experience of the story, characters etc. you're going to want to use a guide for the side missions (the one I used was on the True achievements website). I would generally say I HATE a game that you need a guide to play to fully experience- but this is an exception as it was worth it for me to see everything the game had to offer. There are many side missions and interactions that are only available in earlier chapters and several of these give you key items that make your experience playing the game much easier and more enjoyable. (Note you can do chapter replays to do things you missed- but playing them in order is much more immersive and just easier imo). There are a LOT of side missions, but I'd say overall they're worth doing as they're how you get to experience the true vibe of Greenvale and its people. -If TLDR on doing all the side missions- PLEASE at least do the one for George early in the game to get the radio which will allow you to fast travel. -Use the map not just for locating where you need to get too, but for tracking where the citizens are around town. The map will show where each NPC is at the time of day. E.g you can spy on Thomas when he goes home to his apartment for the day for an amusing scene. Or if an NPC is in a weird area you wouldn't expect- you can go spy on them and see what they're doing there. And if you're not sure if a place is going to be open/an NPC you're looking for is there yet- just check for them on the map (it will save you a lot of time). -Make manual saves at least every couple chapters. There is only one save file in the game- so you will have to make copies of the actual save file in the game's system files. Your save can get corrupted so this just makes life easier. -If the game crashes or something is just not working, just restart your computer. You will honestly be surprised how often a restart will just fix the issue randomly. If I knew this earlier in my play-through I would have had a much better time. I hope more people can get through all the issues and experience the delightful charm of this game!
