"Look how they massacred my boy" Came back to play this after watching the movie. When I first bought this game in 2023 it ran perfectly with no issues. Idk how they could mess it up this much but since the update the graphics look substantially worse, it runs like ass on any hardware. Constant freezes and glitches, issues with shadows and textures that were not present in the original version. Awful amounts of screen tearing even with v-sync turned on, they said they have added full controller support but you have to use your mouse to exit menus otherwise the close button doesn't show up. Had an issue where the sticks on the controllers worked fine but none of the buttons would elicit a response, so I'm afraid the "full support" is not true. It's a shame because I bought this game and enjoyed it years ago but the updates have made it totally unplayable. I hope the devs put a legacy version in the beta tab for this game at least so I can play it the way I used to. I would not recommend this to anyone in the current state it is in.
I don’t know what happened, but this game got downgraded to hell. A Roblox game could compete better. I purchased this game 2 years ago, and replayed it recently, was very disappointed. This game is considered a scam unless they give an option to restore the old game version. Please do not support only until they give an option to revert the changes. This was a unique backrooms game with an impressive ambiance, but all of us who purchased before the whole rework should feel absolutely scammed, I know I do. Again, do not support this scam. If you are curious how it looks before you buy, be careful what videos you watch because they may showcase the old version.
Played this game a few months back before this big update, had a blast and had been waiting for the new tapes. Saw they made a huge update and wanted to check it out. Well, after trying to get it to work i just simply cant. Regardless of settings, screen tearing is just constant half the setting don't actually work or change anything. if i ever pause the game the keys don't work. ESC doesn't close the menu, right click doesn't close the menu like the game says it should. upon resuming the game it continues to run but i cant do anything i just see my cursor. Unfortunately i cannot play at all which is unfortunate, would not recommend buying until they fix this new update
there's a lot Cortez Productions did right here but also so much wrong, and i'm left wishing i didn't spend the (admittedly very reasonable amount of) money on it at the end of the day. pros: -diverse immersive 'liminal' environments to explore and walk around in -shiny impressive graphics, beautiful water animation in the water levels -good atmosphere, effective use of ambience/sound -linear enough level design where the game [mostly] guides you were to go so you're not running around for hours on end in infinite spaces cons: -rampant genAI use, I noticed it first with the voice acting and then confirmed via AI detection tools with some of the wall art + wallpapers. i know a lot of gamers are of the opinion that it's the way of the future and we just need to suck it up, but personally seeing genAI in a game completely sucks me out of the experience and makes me wonder what other shortcuts the devs might've took. i know making games is hard as ♥♥♥♥ and takes up a lot of time + resources so like whatever, I just personally hate seeing that ♥♥♥♥ crop up when i'm trying to have a spooky vidja experience. -very very slow walk speed with no way to set sprint to toggle, so you're basically stuck holding down the run key/button the whole time. honestly the sprint speed should be the normal walking speed in my opinion, it's only barely fast enough to navigate these big ass realms in a reasonable amount of time -sparse information online as far as walkthroughs, achievement explanations, and general information goes, which makes navigating the game almost impossible sometimes because they don't always tell you what's expected of the user and it's easy to get stuck -the game is straight up incomplete. it's clear the devs have intentions to expand its scope and that's genuinely great, I hope they do. but in its current state (even with the 2 tapes we have now), it doesn't feel like a finished piece of work. i suppose that's duly reflected in the game listing's price but to me this feels like beta stage testing before the final product hits shelves. -my computer still manages to handle most games reasonably well without overheating despite the age of its components, but for some reason The Backrooms: Lost Tape pushes my GPU to its max (even on med/low settings) with seemingly little visual payoff in the end. plenty of other more intricate and visually striking games register far lower GPU temps for me than this game, and i'm not sure if that's an UE5 issue like other reviews have mentioned but tbh it's kind of wack. performance is reasonably stable otherwise, certain levels slowed my framerate significantly (like the water heavy levels, which sucks cause those were my favorite across the board) but it held pretty consistent indoors at least. -lastly, and this is a gripe with most 'backrooms' games, but I personally don't want to see some amalgamation of backrooms + SCP + creepypasta lore. I want a backrooms game that develops backrooms lore as its exclusive focus. I know all of them are inextricably intertwined by this point but it would be SO nice to see a game modeled after the energy of Kane Parsons' YT series on the backrooms, hell even make your own unique lore if you wanted! i just think SCP monsters are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ goofy and deeply unserious, and not once during this playthrough did I feel genuine fear or was unsettled, it all just fell flat. even though I got the game on sale right when I was still in the backrooms vibe after seeing the new movie in theaters, I regret spending money on this one and I can't in good conscience recommend it. I hope they can optimize performance, add more user control settings, use human-made art/voices for the final product, refine the scope of their focus, and honestly just finish the damn thing. I think there's some potential here but the truth is that i'm not highly motivated to check back for updates down the line.

I never thought I'd leave a negative review over a graphics update, but this update fundamentally changed what made this game special. The level Heaven was, without exaggeration, one of the most atmospheric environments I've ever experienced in a video game. It wasn't memorable because it had cutting-edge graphics it was memorable because of its artistic direction. The soft, dreamlike lighting, muted color palette, subtle VHS filter, and overwhelming emptiness created a feeling that was almost impossible to describe. It genuinely felt like a place outside of reality, suspended somewhere between a dream and a memory. The new update undeniably improves the game's technical fidelity. The lighting is more realistic, the textures are sharper, and there's far more detail throughout the environment. Unfortunately, I think those improvements come at the cost of what made Heaven so unforgettable. The original Heaven wasn't trying to be photorealistic it was trying to make you feel something. Every part of its presentation served that goal. The hazy atmosphere, the soft bloom, and the analog VHS aesthetic blended together to create one of the most convincing liminal spaces I've ever seen. The new version feels cleaner, sharper, and more technically impressive, but it also feels grounded. Instead of wandering through an impossible place, I now feel like I'm exploring a beautifully rendered environment. This is why I believe realism was the wrong direction for this particular level. Liminal spaces aren't memorable because they're realistic they're memorable because they feel subtly wrong. The original Heaven captured that feeling better than almost any game I've played. The VHS filter wasn't hiding technical shortcomings, it was an essential part of the level's identity. I genuinely appreciate the work that went into this update, and I understand the desire to improve the visuals. But in the case of Heaven, I feel like the game traded atmosphere for fidelity. The new version is objectively more advanced from a technical standpoint, yet it evokes far less emotion than the original. I sincerely hope the developers consider adding a classic version of Heaven with its original lighting, atmosphere, and post-processing. The old level wasn't just a location, it was an experience, and I miss it.
Что за ♥♥♥♥♥♥, причём тут вообще вселенная SCP? Итак уже взъебали канон как могли разными монстрами, которые изначально в него не входили, так теперь ещё и это дерьмо
