It's good if you're the kind of sick person to find SQL queries fun (me). Clever puzzles and charming writing make this game enjoyable. The puzzles are hard, some taking me over an hour to solve. I didn't finish the game, but I enjoyed it and found it satisfying for a good number of the puzzles.

Good and fun way to learn a bit of SQL. A bad way to find out your reading comprehension skill level.

One of the best and funniest puzzle games I've ever played. Don't buy this if you're expecting a game solely focused on SQL, as it's much more a fakeOS puzzle game where SQL is just a method to get the answer after you've found all the clues which is often the hardest part but very varied and rewarding. It does the puzzle and investigation part incredibly good. LMAO PLZ

Wow. What an experience. Database Detective has a relatively simple high-concept pitch: it's a whodunnit you solve using SQL. The absolute *magic* of this game is that puzzles are structured in ascending difficulty of SQL operation such that you add only one or two skills to your quiver per chapter, and by the end are doing complicated joins and functions to determine the criminals. There are a few minor quibbles; the hint system isn't the most effective and the final two chapters are just unstructured enough that there are quite a few "staring at white space" moments trying to parse out where to begin, but ultimately the puzzles are crafted in such a way that it is *always* equal parts satisfying and nerve-wracking submitting a solution. Not only is this game a towering feat of puzzle creation, it's also an extremely effective teaching tool. Seriously, this would be a great resource to use into an into to data research class or something of that ilk. Although, I wish there was a way to turn off some of the disparaging comments out database detectives so as not to scare off those trying to learn. Play this game!

Really good puzzles. Whole game is filled to the brim with soul. Does a great job keeping the puzzle as the main focus with SQL being a tool used creatively to get the details you need.
