Database Detective: Minor Crimes Division

Love this game!

I mean, yeah, this game is pretty great for learning the basics of SQL and all that (I've never used it before, and I enjoyed learning it), but the thing I love most about this is the humor. Incredibly dry. Love it! Oh, yeah, some of the cases really made me feel stupid based on how long it took me to solve. 10/10

Very cool and fun game! As someone who works in databases, I had a blast, and I'm sure it could also be a great game for people that want to learn SQL as well!

This might be the best value-for-price game I've played in a while. I was a little worried that it might be a "learn SQL" kind of game and that if you already knew SQL you wouldn't get much out of it, but that's definitely not the case. There is a little SQL guidebook in the game, but you are not required to create any specific queries or even to use the specific SQL features that are introduced in the guidebook during the current case, and you can use SQL features that aren't introduced in the guidebook at all. Ending credits say that SQLite is what was used for the game, so presumably you can use any feature that SQLite has. You solve each level when you input the full, real name of the guilty person - how you find that name is entirely up to you. The first few levels are extremely simple, but after you get access to the internet, the game quickly acquires a lot of interesting complexity. There are basically two main activities after that point: internet-stalking potential suspects and other people of interest in order to find sites where you can download new tables that contain their PII or information that you need to get their PII from another table, and writing SQL queries to sift through all those tables to find the information that you need. Although complex, it's not unfairly difficult. The only times I got stuck were when I stopped thinking about the case as being about narrowing down the suspect list using hard data, and started thinking I entirely understood what had happened just based on e.g. having read some online forums. So just keep in mind that there will always be hard data that you can use to narrow the list down to one person, you'll never be making a decision along the lines of "hmm, I think it's this guy, he seems suspicious". The humor is also very on point all the way to the end. I'd talk about some of the things I enjoyed the most here, but it would be a (minor) crime to spoil the experience for anyone else, and then the Los Zorangeles police department would be after me.

I really really liked this game!!! It teaches you some basic SQL without making it feel like you’re doing homework or sitting in a database class lol. SQL is more like a tool you use while doing the actual detective work, which I think works really well. You actually have to look at the evidence, connect things, find clues and figure out who the culprit is. And I LOVE that the game has so many little details and background stories. Some of them are genuinely so cute and funny and you can tell a lot of thought went into them. Really fun game, especially if you like detective games and want to learn a bit of SQL along the way. Definitely recommend!!!

Super fun game with just the right amount of challenge. All the little write ups within the game provide so much depth into creating this cohesive fictional world and they're written with great humour. If only I could wipe my memory and play this game again! Such a gem. 10/10

it doesn't feel like trainer for sql, it 100% is a game with its finely drawn world that is fun to play
