This negative review is because as an Index owner, I am sick to death of companies not specifying that their game only works on one VR rig. It's frustrating, irresponsible, and a waste of the customer's time. If you arent going to put in the effort to make your game play on all VR rigs then ******* say so. Maybe this game is actually good... I'll never know, it doesn't function on my rig.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/rj6U6lddmlY This is a fun arena combat arcade rogue-lite. I wouldn't really call it an action RPG though. You strategically use either your bow & arrow or your sword & board. You can get permanent weapon upgrades, but you also get some temporary upgrades. This is not physics combat, but pure arcade fast-paced action. You do end up getting a good workout as you'll have to move quickly, dash around, and quickly hack & slash and block or line up your arrows quickly in the arena. You work up 10 levels to the boss fight. You can play single-player or multiplayer crossplay online co-op with up to 4 players. Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On the Meta Quest 3 I was getting mostly 72 fps on my RTX 3080. I did notice a stutter once when there were several enemies on screen, but it was only once in my over 1 hour of gameplay. You do have full locomotion, along with smooth or snap turning. Your dash is kind of like a teleport, but they are limited. Headset or controller based camera movement. You can technically play seated, but it's easier standing. I did enjoy the game for what it is, but I also think it can be much better. It needs the ability to really have different builds and modifiers to really make you want to do several runs. More weapon variety for sure as well. Maybe a pure magic class added. Maybe the ability to set some traps or ordinates. Graphical settings added. Let us take the laser off the bow. Do not buy the game if you use a index, you wont even be able to get past the term of service. The game only works for certain rigs like the quest series.
This is not really and rpg, you spend each round in a room and go up the elevator when you beat the wave. It was fun for about 5 minutes until I realised I would not be exploring dungeons. The enemies are not very good, they just let you beat them up and don't counter. Just flail your sword and you can kill them in seconds.
The graphics were impressive and made a good first impression. I didn't sense much in terms of physics, but the casual feel was decent. I encountered the Spider Queen and it was challenging. I'll play a bit more to see how it goes.
Overall recommended! So the game is an arena-style combat bame. I would say it falls on the more arcadey side of VR combat, but whereas I normally HATE arcade-like combat games, I found this one very enjoyable. Combat is simple. You can have (and switch between) either a sword/shield or a bow. If you swing your sword at a foe, you hit him (as far as I can tell). The only way to block is with the shield --- there is no parrying. And, that's it. Pretty simple. What this game does not do (which is the thing I hate about arcade-style combat games) is it DOES NOT tell you how/where you can hit the enemies. Your combat style/strategy is left completely in the player's capable hands. I also really enjoyed the crafting system. It was just pure brilliance the way the devs turned crafting into a little mini-game. It takes away the dryness of crafting that a lot of VR games suffer from. At least for me it did. I only really have two complaints, both of which I hope will be fixed eventually. First, if you turn on continuous turning, you will quickly notice a MAJOR bug. When you move the joystick to start turning, the player jumps (usually backward) from the current position in addition to turning. It doesn't make the game unplayable (at least for me), but it is really annoying and is clearly a bug. Secondly, multiplayer. As bast I can tell you have no option to create your own lobby or a lobby of any kind. If you select multiplayer you git shoved in a room with random internet weirdos. This means that while I will recommend this game in the review, I will discourage my friends on Steam from purchasing it because we won't be able to play together. And admittedly, I thought about making my review negative over this, but it is a solid game with solid gameplay mechanics that I was enjoying playing singleplayer. However, I immagine some of those boss fights will be pretty amazing, if only you could do them with friends.
On valve index, was unable to ever click Agree to the EULA had to refund :(
Post-sale legal terms imposed under duress / threat of illegally withholding access to your purchase. HTC Vive buttons do not work in this game to be able to scroll down on the terms, so I can't even see if they're good or bad. I asked the developer for support and they did not reply for a full business week.
WIth Vive Pro2 and Valve Index Controller, I see the hand, I can aim at Agree of the Eula but it takes no button at all, to really accept the EULA, nor am I able to scroll down or else. Currently, I cannot try/play and also cannot recommend the game.
