Why so many negative reviews? Beat Souls is a fun game! Using a controller you move your character left and right with the directional pad (or left thumbstick), jump with A (on an Xbox controller), change the color of your "ghosts" with X, and line up the ghosts to hit the notes with the shoulder buttons. Some reviews claim that this is not a rhythm game, but I have no idea how you're supposed to beat the hardest tracks on the hardest difficulty without listening to the beat of the notes. I for one had a lot of trouble following what was going on using only my eyes, so I listened to the beat of the notes as I was hitting them (rather than the beat of the song) which made things easier. The tracks start out fairly easy but some of the later tracks can get pretty crazy. The music is not the most memorable, but it worked fine as background music for a rhythm game. I probably won't remember any of the tracks after uninstalling the game, but they were catchy enough while playing. It took me 23 hours to perfect (no damage/full combo) all 55 tracks on both difficulties, at which point there isn't really much point in replaying the game as I don't think you can improve your score any further, but if they add any more tracks (like they've done once before) I'll definitely be back. Still, even if they don't add any more tracks - 23 hours for $10? That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I'm honestly a bit surprised that this game has received so many negative reviews. I was pleasantly surprised, and can definitely recommend Beat Souls, especially if you're someone like me who enjoys rhythm games and don't mind replaying the same track over and over (and over) again in order to get that perfect run.

Beat Souls is a solid game with some Beat Saber vibes (without the VR), but nothing like Guitar Hero. It has a good mix or difficulty levels and the music is good. It essentially is a rhythm game that requires some intense mental multi-tasking and definitely feels satisfying when you 100% that stage that you just kept missing. There isn't any type of real story or additional modes. It also has some intense visuals and would not be appropriate if you are photosensitive whatsoever. If you're undecided, at least check out the demo! I have enjoyed my time quite a bit.

Make Chinese and English speaker feel at home: Bilingual Curator
Unsure what others qualify as a "rhythm game" and what they would categorize this as if not rhythm. While the music leaves a lot to be desired, buying this one on sale definitely feels worth the price tag for the content and difficulty. The higher level tracks can take a few tries to no damage/full combo and the mechanics are more unique than a lot of newer games in the genre. While I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it, I would still recommend it on sale to anyone who enjoys games of the musical variety.
3/10 i would try the demo before you pick this up. i got it from a bundle and would have refunded if i could super basic music, nothing special super basic gameplay jump over spikes move left and right to pick up things with your balls move your balls left and right change the color of your ball to pick up the other color game play never evolves past this
Beat Souls is a console ported Guitar Hero ripoff with a garish, ugly colour scheme and "innovative" gameplay in that you have these two blobs on either side of you and you need to move them around to collect things off the 5 Guitar Hero bands that flow down at you. And you need to jump over some hazards. Whatever. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. Because this is a console game, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game. Once more, console peasants have made gaming worse for everyone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. In an attempt to excuse the low quality of delivery here, the game makes a big point of having a nice soundtrack (I don't think it's that good). If the business plan for a game is to compete with Spotify, which is free and has effectively unlimited music, all of which is better than the music here, it's failed before it even started. Gamers can listen to the Spotify for free. A game cannot be seen as recommendable just because it competes badly with listening to the radio or to MP3s. The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game only ever reached a peak player count of only 10 players. This is a pitiful enough number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is remarkable, but also to be expected. This complete and utter rejection of the game from gamers should be a keen information point for anyone considering buying shovelware like this. Gamers just didn't take this seriously, and for good reason. PC gamers just don't like console crap. Beat Souls has the laughable, insulting price of $12 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games, let alone the sheer number of free games available on Steam. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
Had some good ideas... executed them very poorly. Unlocking every song individually is not my idea of fun. Some songs are not in sync with the rhythm. Game is interminably bright. Few songs I could tolerate, and the ones you have to play through to unlock, are all variations of vaporwave, take that as you will. I will happily admit I paid for it via a bundle... and their heart's in the right direction (especially compared the Pretty Girls franchise they typically belt out, not saying anything bad about those but they're just... there) but the amount of effort... It's lacking. If this is that developer turning over a new leaf and actually making something unique and that doesn't just have okay art to gawk at, may I suggest you put in just a smidgeon more effort to convince? You have me... but it needs a lot of work. Considering the bit I could tolerate to play before my eyes were begging me to stop, may I suggest you start with not blinding the player, then move on from there?
