Dark Tales 8: Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart(IHOG) Only barely recommended. Options include separate sliders for Music, Sound and Voices, Full-screen and Custom Cursor. Choice of three preset difficulties, or you can go with Custom Mode. Contains violence and disturbing imagery. Story: I've only played one Dark Tales game previously, and I am not well-versed in Poe's work, but Tell-Tale Heart is an exception. (It's short so take a gander at the link!) I re-read it to prepare for the journey into this game, whose story is very unlike the original. In Dark Tales 8 we help our partner, Inspector Dupin, investigate the murder of a young woman who was attacked in the night, then strung up in a tree with a carving of an apple and a small bag of flour. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1822601413 The Office button in your toolbar is your Journal, tracking all of the pertinent pieces of evidence and story that we find. The story progresses through a mixture of notes and cutscenes. Gameplay: Be on the lookout for collectible cards as you play. You will find one at each location, although there can also be cards on zoom-ins. The MAP can be interactive, and has insta-transport available. Directional HINTS are also available. I thought that the gameplay was really different. There are some standard, interactive Hidden Object Scenes, but a lot of them cater to the investigation that we're doing. For instance, as we are told of the evidence that was gathered, we have to look through and find the things that are being mentioned: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1824166156 As we are interviewing witnesses, we become that person, and play through their memories as part of the game. I think this is the part that I found so interesting. Inventory items are interactive (as indicated by a magnifying glass), and often need to be combined. I like this better than having to backtrack to where you originally found an item, but it's a bit irritating in this game because you have to click-click-click to move to the other side of the inventory bar. The Mini-games are pretty easy for the most part, although some of them take a long time to complete due to the way the puzzle is laid out. Again, most are very detective-centric, such as selecting matching blood spatters. There are a couple of "fights", which entail clicking on things in the right order, and there's also a mini where you have to click when an item moves into a green circle. This one could be a problem for those with dexterity issues, but it is skippable. Sights and Sounds: I really enjoyed the ambiance of the graphics. They seemed very appropriate for the theme and time-frame where the story takes place. The voice-overs were fairly good, although not the voices that I expected to hear. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1822602098 CE Content:

Integrated Strategy Guide
Bonus Chapter
In-game Achievements
36 Collectible Cards - Collect all of them to unlock the Crystal Skull (a match-3 game)
7 Wallpapers
11 Concept Art
5 Screen Savers
4 Music Tracks
13 Replayable Mini-games
10 Replayable HOS
Bonus Chapter: The ending of the main game is VERY abrupt, and tells us exactly nothing about why this woman was murdered. The extra chapter takes us 15 years in the past, to Dupin's very first case, which - it turns out - involves a character from the main story. Here we find out what the apple and flour is about, but get absolutely no other answers. You get to decide whether the accused was guilty or not guilty, but I can't go into any other details without spoilers. The gamplay is similar to the main game's, but introduces silhouette HOS. I enjoyed this story more than the first part of the game, but again we are left with no resolution! Verdict: I was really enjoying the interesting gameplay and story, but then the ending completely ruined it for me. There is only the briefest reference to Poe's original story, and it was beyond confusing when they finally got there. The bonus chapter was great, but again we are left in a state of confusion. I give this a passing grade ONLY for the gameplay and graphics. If you are a story-lover - and especially if you're a Poe-lover - give this one a pass. I hear that the first 7 games in the series were great, so you'd be better off playing those.
This is a very good series, but this particular game is not very good. At least they tried to be original (unlike many of the Artifax Mundi games). It was a good attempt at being original. However, the main game was too short and ended too abruptly. I don't even understand what happened at the end. Some of the mechanics in the main game were really confusing. I didn't care for the mini-games. If you get it cheap (maybe 4.99 US or less), then it would be worth it, I think.
Definitely a "sale" purchase with low expectations. This is a very short point & click story with some hidden object finding in it. I was disappointed after having had such fun with the 2nd & 3rd in the Sable Maze series. The story is poorly written and disjointed, and definitely not for someone who is an Edgar Allen Poe fan. I'm confused how anyone would even get the story from playing this game. Despite the game's introductory warning, this game is "low" on the scale of scary. There is suggestion of violence, and a few attempts at a jump scare. Some positives for this version -You can replay the game under the same name save -Custom game difficulty option -You can replay the puzzles/HOG in the extra menu -Map indicates when an area is completed Some cons for this version -The strategy guide is only accessible through the "more info" section of the main menu. It's not easily accessible as in the Sable Maze series -no easy link to the bonus content - i exited the game to play it later and when I came back, I can't find anywhere to get back to it -if you advance the story, there is no way to go back to a previous area -a lot of "matching" to progress I did not experience any technical issues or bugs with the game.
This series seems to follow the plots of Edgar Allen Poe’s stories. Of course, with you and a Detective involved. This one, you are tasked with hunting a murderer, who may only be getting started. And his first kill did not lack for theatrics... HO scenes are fun, minigames challenging, and the plot engaging. Recommend in the bundle, just for ease of purchase.
A particularly lazy Hidden Object game. It took me only 3 hours to complete - and that's including the bonus chapter! For comparison, other titles in the "Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe" I played took me at least 4,5 hours to beat. The plot starts fairly well with a ritualistic murder of a young woman, but the game fails to capitalize on it in interesting way. You're stuck with analyzing crime scenes and bodies, which amounts to "select this tool and click here a couple of times". To make matters worse, it's never explained why the bad guy committed the murder in the first place, let alone why it had appearance of a ritual. And we don't actually confront the killer - someone else takes him out in a nonsensical ending! Other things the game offers are very basic and uncommon hidden object screenes, and stock puzzles. If you're thinking about buying this one, check some other titles in the series. This one isn't worth it. 3/10
I've played other Dark Tales games in the past and decided to pick up the bundle for them on Steam. Played this one first since it was one of my favorite Edgar Allen Poe stories. Honestly? It felt like the ending was abruptly cut off. Some of the game play was very fun, but the ending just left me and my brother disappointed. There was no actual conclusion. It feels like a huge chunk of the game is missing, which really saddens me. Like I have said, I use to play these games a lot as a kid and honestly was disappointed with this one. The only reason I will be revisiting it is to get the rest of the cards, and then never touch it again.
Very poorly executed game. The story makes no sense at all.
I was really excited for this one and it started out pretty good but the ending was so quick and didn't make a whole lot of sense honestly. Felt very thrown together which is unfortunate because the TTH is such an amazing story. Most underwhelming one by far.
Plot - 4/10 (The ending ???): The game's plot takes players on a twisted journey inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale, "The Tell-Tale Heart," which initially had me engrossed with its dark and mysterious atmosphere. The voice acting and visual design are commendable, but unfortunately, the ending left me with more questions than answers, and the narrative felt somewhat unresolved.
játékmód maga oké. story nagyon rossz.
