Its a good game loving the realism my only fault is you cant save the game. I accidentally fell through a gap in the floor into infinite darkness on the 3rd floor so i was forced to quit out and when i started up again i was back at the start. please implement a save system so you dont have to start from level 1 again. cheers
decent backrooms game for the price with good graphics but holy ♥♥♥♥ I got lost so hard in the poolrooms it made me give up on the game. I'll give it a positive rating I suppose but hopefully the dev gives us like a marker or something to write on the wall in the major update or at least redesign that level cause I got so lost in the poolrooms https://youtu.be/7Uex1g6gGq8?si=QfTwIwwW5gR6HwWD

Okay so... don't buy this. The game is seemingly dead, as it didn't receive any update in about a year, and the dev has gone silent ever since. Apparently, a major update was due, but it somehow never came to fruition. And the game really needed an update. It's not just about the content (I don't feel particularly robbed at 1.79€), it's more about the lack of options and settings. Not only you can't set a custom resolution (I mean this is the most basic setting anyone could ask for) and this is an issue considering the game is running in Unreal 5 with RT lumen. Then, the head bobbing is just... out of this world. Personally, while I never suffered from motion sickness, I really prefer playing games with little to no headbobbing. I don't care if it's meant to make a game look realistic or not, at best I find this useless, at worst distracting. And oh boï, the head bobbing in this game is distracting. I couldn't focus on anything else. Even when standing still, you can see that your character view can't help but swinging around. When running, it felt like I was playing a cartoon character being constantly (comically) electrified or something. I can imagine that, for most people, playing this game might be a real test of will. As for the game content, I finished it in a bit more than one hour (it felt much longer though). It felt okay for the price I paid (1.79€). I can't really say if it brings anything more to the table than all the other backroom based games, I don't know if it respects a precise backroom lore or not (I don't really care about that really, I just focus on having fun), but it didn't felt very creative/innovative either. Actually, aside from the absurd head bobbing, nothing stood out. It didn't felt memorable. TL;DR -> The absence of graphical settings in an unreal/unity paid game is an automatic thumbs down for me, as it's not only an absolute requirement (even more when using raytracing/lumen/nanites) but it's also one of the easiest things to implement in the game. -> The lack of communication from the dev and the absence of updates since early march of 2024 pretty much means the game is dead, so it's a second thumbs down . -> The absurd (and not deactivatable) head bobbing just makes this game hard to immerse in and enjoy. And that's when you are not getting motion sick or getting headaches. Third, and really deserved, thumbs down. As for the game itself, as of today, it's nothing special. It's fine, but nothing memorable.
I played the complex games and dream logic and was looking for some cozy liminal spooks to fill the void of their absence. sorry to say, this ain't it. I made it relatively far (poolrooms area) before giving up and overall my time with this felt like a series of highly repetitive fetch quest mazes more than an atmospheric liminal space experience. The one scare I'd encountered in the 5-7 areas I'd explored was a sudden unprovoked deafening industrial scraping noise in the second section which began seemingly at random. That and the time during my first failed playthrough when I actually noclipped through the ground and ran around like an idiot for 10 minutes just in case this was part of the experience (I do not believe it was). Please check out Pools, dream logic, and the complex games for this sort of thing done right. The backrooms: lost tape is also very good despite an annoying first puzzle section
Played it briefly and I am finding the game is in a way to early state for it to be up and for sale. Enjoy what I played, was creeped out. But the game has no menu system. Audio was a level that I could just barely hear it. I suspected the game didn't have a save system in place, so after running the first "mission" I closed and reloaded the game, and sure enough I am back at the start. No kind of system to tell you what you can do, how to do so. I reach a spot where crouching is required and I tried the key commonly used for that. But I was left spamming keys to see if they do anything since the game doesn't tell you anything. Also the sound after the first "mission" is horrible. Early game, probably place holder, hopefully they work on something new. Thumbs down in current state, because I honestly feel like it is WAY too early and needs a lot of work on UI, settings, a save system, etc. But once the game has some more work I can see this being a game I revisit and love at that point.
Overall, I think that it's a pretty decent backrooms game, but at the time of this review, there's quite a few problems that make me not want to recommend it. To start off, there are no save states currently. I made the mistake of making it to the poolrooms and exiting to do something else. When I started the game again, I had to restart all the way back from the first level to make it back to where I was. Second of all, the poolrooms are an absolute pain to navigate. There aren't very many distinguishable areas in the level, so nearly everything looks the same. And due to the level's size, it is incredibly easy to get lost. I've spent over an hour just wandering through this level trying to find the elevator after pressing all of the buttons, and I have yet to find it. Despite my issues, the rest of the game is pretty alright, but due to the issues I have with it, I can't recommend the game.
For the current price: - 4,99 CAD Its a pretty good game, runs smooth, I personally love the retro camera effect with the head movement. Its only bad sides as for now: - Dosen't have any type of ( Option, Menu ) - You can't save progression - Can't change video settings **BUG: -If you happen to see a part of the floor missing in the ''Jungle'' area, don't jump in it. you'll lose all your progression and have to alt-f4 the game :) funny at first, but really sad at the end. Other than that I've loved that game. 6.5 / 10
another good version of backrooms liminal. there is some blood, and only what seems like an allusion to a 'possible entity', or so i interpretted. good flashlight, good vhs visuals. but, my guy the screen shake needs reducing. and the poolrooms (last level? i hope) are just not fun in current design. i appreciate the grittier take but that maze is too difficult, shrink it up some maybe.
Very empty and kinda cheap backrooms, visuals are nice, but you spend the whole time getting lost when searching for buttons it's not a great experience tbh. There's little to no horror and 99% of the game feels like level 0 retextured, the only few places that were good looking weren't used, like the mall level
