No save option? No thumbs up for games that wants to hold your time hostage. I'm a bit too busy with an actual life for that crap.
Game has a very surface level theme. Cards are pretty much gain/lose X resource with a light "cultish" theming, which isn't even cultish but more appropriately "conspiracy" themed. Each turn is very boring allowing only one action (unless you work towards a single-time bonus) then you get two actions, but event cards affect you immediately with no recourse, so only having one action per turn robs a lot of agency from what a "card game" wants to do. Even flavor-wise, there is very little with very "mild" events that occur VERY infrequently essentially to force you into losing a LOT of resources in order to satisfy a story condition however, this isn't affected at all by whichever leader you've chosen or actions you've taken, so there's no agency there either. Cards are also no limited to whatever theme your cult is, so there's nothing actually allowing player agency, but you're realistically just managing resource numbers to make sure they don't hit "game-end". Especially since the resources do not affect each other either, so it's not even a complex brain teaser, but rather just making sure the +/- don't hit negative. The game end game condition is also very unclear. I have kept my influence above the required amount, but the deck emptied, causing me to lose, which is baffling especially since the rest of the game is so simple only made annoying by the difficult ui where you have to navigate a world map while all the interactions happen on a "state" level, so you're just zooming in and out simply to read the numbers and find the "?" for a crumb of flavor events. I believe I hit the "max level?" (which I don't know because the ui doesn't really show any of this information), because I've hit all the "top level" cards (I think because they essentially made the game trivial), but the game didn't end. The deck also emptied before I could fill the board, so who knows what the win condition is. I might have missed story events? but they're literally tiny question marks that you have to zoom in and out for, scanning the map that is littered with flavor animations that has nothing to do with what you're doing, so that might be the case. Very disappointing. There was an idea there, but very surface level with no real idea of how they wanted the game to "flow".
Nice card game with strategy that is not overwhelming, fun to play and explore... I like the game so far and like the difficulty - keeps me invested without turning me off with frustration. Other than that fun game and enjoying exploring it and finding new ways to tackle it... Just started so I will re-review more as I try it out more but looks good so far...
Why it keeps zooming in and for zooming out its so hard and slow? Killed the immersion. Not for me.
Conquered America with my banger cult 10/10 would worship Satan again
Сомнительная игрушка с непонятной целью и сломанным балансом, но приятным дизайном
I played the demo and really enjoyed the gameplay, and I'm glad to see it improved on here! Beyond the decently intuitive gameplay that already existed in the demo, there are now coins with special bonuses around the map for you to collect by fulling filling a state. My two favorites are "Miser" and "Duo" as the first lets you keep 3 cards after each round, allowing you to draw cards with near no repercussion, and the later lets you draw two cards each round allowing you to speed up your expansion. I would love to see more content to work as "good" end conditions where you win, as currently you are just lasting as long as you can until the game cuts you off due to your influence being capped once you reach a high level and there being "no more cards". More maps and characters would also be awesome!
A bit overwhelming at first (lots of numbers and what not going up and down) but after settling in I found this game to be incredibly fun. Many possible strategies are available to implement and I see some great potential in optimizing playthroughs. For those who enjoy deck-builders, dark humor and even good idle-ish game play; do yourself a favor and pick this up. (9/10)--Rating
Got this as a gift from my friend. I enjoyed the demo and was hoping to play for a while. I really like the game's idea and the visual design is fantastic! However, there are several quirks that do not allow me to recommend this game at its current state. Of those I feel the tutorial (a very short how-to in the pause menu) should be reworked. The modifiers to your resources (followers, money etc.) that are being applied as soon as you expand to the next state are generally understandable, but you can't really predict the outcome unless you actually expand and then zoom out to see the overall new balance. So you have to basically retract your turns if the outcome is undesirable, which turns the game into the long waltz of placing cards, switching game board "levels" (from state to country) and then redoing it all again. Same goes with ×1..×3 modifiers that are applied additionally when you fill all three card slots in the state. One of two card decks fills out as you gain the "influence" resource, and if this deck ends, the game is over. However, at a certain point your influence target to the next "refill" is frozen at 666 and even though you can still get the points, there is no understanding at all at which level the deck will be refilled. There also several improvements that can be made to the UI/UX especially with navigation and decks being off screen or obscured from the view as soon as you pick up the new card. Again, I really like the idea of this game and the current gameplay is nice; I hope the developers are willing to listen to the community (as there already are several threads in Steam's discussions with more feedback) and make this game truly great.
