I'm 10 hours into the game and it's fun so far. I guess it hits my spot cause I love spacegames and I also loved Minecraft a lot. So this game looks and plays as if it was a lovechild of "Minecraft" (Blocks and some looks) and "Emyprion" (Mining and building cycle), add to the mix No Mans Sky (Finding and repairing vessels on planets and in space, lots of flora and fauna) and/or Starfield (The takeoff-animation reminds me, mostly, of Starfield, also some Subwarp-travel&Encounters). So far I like this game a lot, I'm not that far into the game to judge if I'd love it and play it over a decade like Empyrion or Minecraft). Let's see... For anyone liking the aforementioned games I think this one is worth a try.
Was gifted this from a friend, but unfortunately the game suffers from a terrible introduction setting you up to believe you will be exploring space only to find out it's a massive resource grind slog that by the 1 hour mark left me bored and unexcited. It's almost as if the devs wanted to create No Mans Sky, but have never actually played the game. Big pass unless they reintroduce the game allowing you to jump right into the meat of the game though I am convinced it's not even there considering this is apparently a finished product.
游戏到挺好,资源采集也行,就是能量胶囊上哪弄,找了4个小时没找到
amazing game !
bon jeux sympa un peu répétitife mes cool
Steam desperately needs "neutral" reviews... Cool idea of survival/crafting/space game/NMS inspired game. Concepts are good. Mixing them makes it fun but how it works.. ugh Maybe because I played more advanced games with similar motives and I am not the target audience. And because I palyed other similar vibe games I had higher expectations (especially the space "combat") I was really dissapointed that instead on working on very lacking space part of the game the devs gave us a farming and pet update. NPC quests don't feel rewarding. In the time I do 5 quests (1k reward, 7k if space bounty) on high lvl planets (with fetching/gathering and traveling to the objective) I can craft/buy materials, find a ship to repair with them and sell it for 600k.. Quest rewards are the same no matter if u are in early or late game - after some time of playing u just stop doing them. I don't know if it's a bug in ship spawn calculation or if they plan to add hgher tier ships but in systems over I think lvl20 the tier of ships u can find "resets". 20+ lvl system has same ships as in lvl 1 system.
Lightning spewing plants can randomly spawn on top of you and kill you in seconds. There is no counterplay besides hoping RNG doesn't hate you. Until this is fixed, I do NOT recommend Cubic Odyssey to anyone except masochists. edit: also, the ship editor is hot garbage. You can only place or remove 1 block per click (2 with mirror mode). A decent sized ship has at least 10,000 blocks. The devs must love inflicting carpal tunnel syndrome on their players. And to add insult to injury, the base building allows placing columns and planes of blocks with 1 click.
For full disclosure: I got this one from the Humble Choice bundle and played the game exclusively single-player on the baseline difficulty. Cubic Odyssey is a pretty decent mash-up of Minecraft and No Man's Sky. You've got the classic block-based building formula (with some nice features I wish other block-based games would incorporate, like being able to aim at the edges of a block to place blocks on the sides of your target) with a focus on gathering and exploration. Base-building is... kind of discouraged by the galactic exploration aspect, so you're likely going to be using your ship as a base away from base. The combat overall doesn't feel great: Even on the normal difficulty enemies hit extremely hard, move incredibly quickly and erratically and have extremely precise hit detection, while your own weapons all have very thin projectiles that have a travel time: It's not easy to land your shots at range, and trying to fight in melee is a recipe for getting killed very quickly. I solved most of my combat-related problems by parking my ship near the combat zone and picking enemies off with a sniper rifle rather than engaging them at a range where they can do anything to me. Things kind of turn on their head once space ships get involved: You can take hits reasonably well but enemies have *so much health*. It can easily take several minutes of non-stop blasting to push through the insane health pools on enemy ships, even in dedicated combat ships and using missiles. Eventually I started just savescumming around the random ship encounters because it was quicker and the reward for winning a space battle just wasn't worth the time wasted powering through it. I was enjoying the gathering and crafting aspect of the game up until the very end where I learned a cold, hard truth: crafting isn't worth it and all that time I spent gathering was wasted. There is no piece of gear that you can craft that you can't also just find in a shop or in a box on a high level planet... and the repairable ships you find floating in space in the level 20+ zones already come fully kitted out in with the best components you can craft. I know it sounds like I've been incredibly negative about this game (because I have been) but despite my numerous quibbles I still had fun with it.
