Crysis is a game with a very strong first half. Stealthily wiping out an enemy army in a beautiful island is great. Unfortunately it doesn't stay that way. When you start the first tank mission and go into the alien facility the game turns into one of the worst games I have ever played. The tank controls are horrendous and all of the aliens are just horrible, unfun combat encounters. The last boss may be the worst boss I have ever seen. it can freeze you and stun lock you to death. Its also impossible to beat if you forget to pick up the tac gun. This game is also horrendously optimized and buggy. I patched it with c1 launcher and the ascension performance fix and this 20 year old game still dipped below 60fps. It also crashes quite a bit. The physics of enhanced speed will cause you to take damage randomly by touching things. If you want to play this game then play it until you get halfway through and be done with it.

What a great game for it's time and still fully playable in 2026. In terms of performance it suffers from a limited cpu core support. Sadly also the newer released Crysis 1 Remastered isn't doing better with it either. So you have do deal with it either way. Although in my opinion it wasn't too much negatively affecting the gameplay. I didn't encounter any major bugs during my playthrough, only minor visual glitches. It is worth noting that some modding and tweaking is recommended/necessary to ensure a smooth gaming experience (for example, using the c1-launcher and "Crysis Enhanced"). However, that was a hurdle I was happy to take rather than buying a remastered version of a game I already own.
