This game has me conflicted. Overall I do enjoy presentation, story, charcters and the overall look and feel of the game very much. The game mechanic of balancing your ammo with your health is also something I can greatly enjoy. Yet still, some of the clunky controls, Dolores AI and some of the frankly brainless placement of automatic safepoints leaves me so baffled I got to angry too play several times. Some examples: Wanted to switch from crouching to running only for Gabe to decide to not want to and instead angrily toddle on ahead. Getting unpleasantly touched by the spintery Minotaur man behind him. Dolores having a mental breakdown about all her life choices, which have lead her to now stand in the rain, in my way, unmovingly like the forelorn single mother that she is. Rooted into the ground until she at the very least gets to fight back against the patriarchy by slapping Gabe for daring to even think about pulling a switch. When deciding to only allow the player to save in safe rooms, one would think there is a reasonable amount of them on the map. If not at least let your players quick save. I haven't played through the whole game at the moment and I don't know if I actually will at this point. I just finished chapter two and learned via the map that I missed a singular Crow. The thing is, I can't get back onto the map and had to reload a save. The autosave was just after I came out of the level and the last actual save has been quite a while back. Overall I understand, if other folks find the game quite fun. After all, for the most part, it is. It is just that above mentioned negatives are personal no-goes, some are where I draw the line and step back. Honestly these problems might just as well stem from unresolved parental issues on my end, who knows. Edit*Regular Price of under 20€ is fair. I was speaking out of my ass on that note*
Ok so I am a survival horror fan and generally would play anything. I wanted to support this one being an indie and having a unique art direction. It saddens me to say, this one is extremely rough. The good - it's having a go at replicating a Bioshock atmosphere with RE elements, which is respectable. Also, the idea of using health as ammo is unique. The bad - the gampeplay is boring and clunky, about 7hrs in and I fought only a few enemies and when I fought them, they always came in pairs and I took them out quickly with the shotgun. The rest is mostly just alot of walking, opening doors, watching flashbacks and solving puzzles (some are OK but mostly are bad). The weapons are some of the softest/weakest hitting weapons I have come across in a game, the pistol specifically, doesn't hit hard, sounds soft, doesnt knock enemies back, maybe it can be upgraded further but for a starting weapon, it overstayed its welcome. There is also this tyrant/invincible enemy that you have to run away from that was more of chore than a gameplay mechanic, you can so easily out run it and once you get into a small door it just can't chase you and it will just leave you alone. The story is meh, the voice acting is weak, the main guy (Gabriel) is unlikeable, constantly telling others that he works alone and refusing help...etc. The dialogue was also terrible. The game crashed several times as well, my PC can handle it easily and I was only able to reduce the crashing by locking at 60fps and droping settings. I have run a lot more demanding games at twice the fps and higher settings without any crashes, so obvously the game is not liking my hardware. Additionally, the graphics can look really good in certain locations and really flat in others. I know this a small budget game and one would say its done well for what it is, but it still needs to meet some sort of level of quality specifically around pacing, gameplay...etc to be worth players times and sadly this one doesn't do it. I got it on a deep discount and if you are curious wait for a discount, otherwise there are alot better survival horror games out there that play better than this one.
What happens when you put the Bioshock Franchise, Outlast 2 and Call of Cthulhu in a Blender and sprinkle a little bit of Dark Souls and Dishonored 2 on top? You get a pretty good game!
Interesting idea weighed down by its own flaws, including: 1) Ridiculous amounts of padding - every single story chapter has a mandatory ´´find three/four X or Y´´ which kills immersion, especially with the already slow-paced gameplay 2) Abysmal voice acting - the vast majority of English VAs are at best unconvincing and at worst actively grating on the ears...the worst offender being the primary supporting character, which makes it even worse (and many of her lines are eyeroll-worthy) 3) Very little enemy variety even well over halfway in 4) No music whatsoever 5) Highly underwhelming unlockable character perks The game does have some good parts, like some of the level visuals and the idea of using blood/HP as ammunition for your guns. In terms of exploration it is a fairly typical RE-esque experience, except the inability to revisit previously explored locations. The in-game puzzles range from okay to tedious, which only further help kill the pacing altogether. The story feels rather basic and does not really surprise with anything. All in all, with a bit more polish, improved ambiance and better character writing (and VAs) this could have been a solid game. As is however feels more like a slog to get through. Only play if you are highly patient.
Not a fan of this, it's like... almost cool. It's almost good... but it just isn't. The art and environments are cool but everything is so rounded and goofy looking I'm just not a fan. The enemies being wooden dolls is just too lame. If they had been some sort of humanoid creature or something the animations of them being all dismembered and still moving around would have been wicked. Instead its like "oh here comes another Pinocchio I gotta shoot." The characters are incredibly annoying. The puzzles are ... strange. Very "gamey" puzzles with little context as too why something like a door is setup to be opened with a combination of domino numbers. Other than the fact they wanted to put a game puzzle here. There is a lot you could nitpick about it... overall I dont know it is just the whole vibe of the game is just so lame.
