This is the only FF game I haven't played and all I can say is Wow...the story was brilliant the way it ties into FF VII, hanging out with Aerith...and that ending...I was in tears...Man does Square ever know how to write a fantastic story. Idk what else to say, if you're a FF fan you will love this, the gameplay is exactly like the VII Remake/Rebirth (obv this game did it first) Zack is such an awesome protagonist, I wish the ending could've been different so bad but lets just say you learn how Cloud became Cloud. I'm def replaying this on NG+ to 100% it. 10/10 from me man.

Its funny, I think the general expanded lore of Final Fantasy 7 to be pretty cringe but this game for one does a good job of not getting in the way of Final Fantasy 7 and introducing interdimensional nonsense. Final Fantasy has a history of Time Travel, Chaos Realms and other Dimensions but it has never been so convoluted. You had Voids and Darkness Realms of an infinite Evil Cloud but never quite like Final Fantasy 7 Remake's stuff. This game, though, is pretty fun to experience the lore of because it is set in the science of Final Fantasy 7 that was barely explored in the original game. Introspective on Soldier provides so much ground work on Final Fantasy 7 that was needed in the original game. Gameplay is different from the PSP original, made to be more actiony than dedicated to the slot machine mechanic. The music is serviceable with some really good tracks that step out at odd times. The worst of it is the level design has that algorithmic dungeon feel. The game is squarely focused on the combat, which overrides the need for too many varied locations. Being able to see what you're doing is the best focus for this game.
8/10. After having come straight from the OG FF7 with full voice acting via the Echo-S mod, playing this game for the first time ever was like eating a bag of Munchies. Its got some good bits and it has its bad. After a while you sort of get tired of whole thing and just want it to end. The story is great, though a bit off its rocker. Zack is like the only sane person in the whole story, just as lost as myself by all the insane ♥♥♥♥ going on around him. And yet he sticks to his ideals, even if the world around him is going nuts. I'd say you have plenty to do but that would be a lie. All those optional missions in the game actually aren't worth your time nor do they have any story significance. Hell, even hard mode is not worth it, as the game is literally a slog as it is should you want to do said missions anyway. The fact of the matter is, the combat is boring and super repetitive. I was falling asleep at times as I did one combat encounter after another. Eventually you'll figure out by hugging the walls you can avoid combat altogether, but now you are at risk of being under leveled and under geared as everything is tied to the weird slot machine combat mechanic. So do yourself a huge favor and stick to playing the story and do the bare minimum to get yourself better materia and gear (I recommend looking at a guide for materia fusion). Once you're up to the "-ga" spells you're pretty much done. Just ignore the rest and enjoy the story from there on. Some side notes: There is surprisingly little to no mods for this game which is a real shame. At best you can replace characters with their Remake/Rebirth versions and make all chests glow. For me, I used Special K to make sure the game actually ran 4K resolution as it didn't want to go beyond 1440p for some reason. There is also a "mod" that forces the game to run at maximum quality which is actually quite nice, but know that even on my 5090 my GPU was being maxed out all the time at around 80 fps.

Story so good I played the entire thing in basically one sitting You think you know how the story goes and then it throws you for a curveball Get some tissues
Beautiful, just beautiful. Came back for the story and I was not disappointed. Loved it <3
