I vowed to never play this version because they changed the voice actor for Zack, and it is quite awful, i wont lie. There are inflections and audio changes/hiccups? to the voice that dont make sense but also doesnt sound natural. there is a way to install OVA, i didnt because i read somewhere that this voice actor is the same voice actor for the new updated FF7 series. it is cringy from time to time, but there is essence of OVA Zack. The graphics are amazing for a psp remaster.
This game rocks so fricken hard, its a MUST PLAY before FF7 Rebirth.
It's a good game. But it's really short. I didn't like Zack's story that much. The story starts to get good (in my opinion) is when they show the Nibelheim incident in Zack's point of view, everything before it is really weak lol. I didn't like the fact that you to have to "win in a lotery" to level up too. Really different system! Also, there is no post game. After you beat the game you have a New Game plus to do everything again. The game is really easy on normal mode. The ending is the best part of the game, in my opinion.
哦不不不不不不不不不 我无疑是愤怒的 这个战斗系统你妈死了哪个傻逼发明的我操你妈
Really interesting prequel to the events of FF7. I disagree with the general take that this game is an optional play. In my opinion, this is a must play for FF7 fans. Unfortunately, this game is in a really weird spot where it can only be played by people who played the OG or who finished the entire Remake trilogy. Be careful when you play it so that you do not spoil yourself. If you are interested in getting the FULL FF7 experience, do FF7 OG - Crisis Core - Advent Children - Remake - Rebirth - Revelation.
I was swinging back and forth between this being a positive or negative review for a while. There were aspects I enjoyed to the point where I almost want to say the title is still worth playing, but ultimately I don't really think I can recommend playing this to most people which is the criteria steam has for its reviews. As a forewarning I should note that as of now I've only played FF7 and not the remakes, so I have no idea if anything brought up in this game was made more relevant or expanded upon there when compared to the original. If it is, a lot of issues I have would probably be mitigated and likely even be enough to shift this to a positive review some time in the future, that's how mixed I am on this game currently. To start with the positives Zack is by far the best thing to come out of this game. He carries it on his back for the most part and is definitely one of my favourite characters in the FF7 series so far. Some of the story was genuinely quite enjoyable, the latter half I enjoyed quite a bit more than the former, the final few chapters most notably. The story is absolutely the only thing I would suggest playing this game for. It was nice to see and walk around certain areas from FF7 with modern visuals. Finally, the game was at least quite short, meaning regardless of the issues I had it didn't take that long to complete and the parts I did like weren't tarnished too much as a result. As for the negatives... The game felt like it wanted to waste as much time as it could. The combat was incredibly mind numbing. You'd walk 2 meters forward -> "Activating Combat Mode" -> press the same buttons a few times -> "Conflict Resolved" over and over for the entire experience. The game also had way too many fights for my liking which only exacerbated this issue. The side missions were from what I played not much better either, copy pasting one of the same 15 or so maps they had made where it's the same aforementioned combat loop, the only difference being maybe they have more hp if it's a higher difficulty mission. There being literally hundreds of these was just completely unnecessary padding. I also didn't really like most of the other characters introduced in this game and felt their additions honestly subtracted from the original story at times rather than improving it. Most of the worst parts of the games story ended up being when these characters were the main focus, as while I did want to like them they just felt incredibly shallow and built to fit tropes more than anything. I honestly believe this might have been a better experience as a movie, which is a shame as I really did want to like this game a lot more. I don't regret playing this game, and had some genuinely good moments with it, but unfortunately it's held back by some of the most repetitive gameplay I've dragged myself through in recent times.
