This is a wierd ass RPG, mechanic wise at least, i mean, you get new skills but they are selected by chance, it's a wierd idea, but paradoxically it works well in this setting story wise well is damn good, i just wished the second one would also be ported to PC
I played this on the PSP I think and really enjoyed it so I was pleasantly surprised to see it on steam. It can get a bit grindy at times but the characters and their designs are great. It has its “motivation” mechanic that you use to level your group up through perverted little mini games but doesn’t fully embrace its own pervertedness. Wish part two was on steam as well.
Criminal Girls: Invite Only is a dungeon-crawling role-playing game developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published by NIS America that blends traditional turn-based mechanics with provocative thematic elements and a redemption-focused narrative framework. Originally released on handheld platforms before arriving on PC via Steam, the game centers on a unique premise: the player assumes the role of an instructor tasked with guiding a group of young female delinquents through a supernatural rehabilitation program. These girls have been condemned to ascend the Hell Spire, a towering purgatorial structure, in order to atone for their sins and earn a second chance at life. The setup merges fantasy tropes with character-driven storytelling, resulting in an experience that feels equal parts dungeon crawler and character study. The core gameplay revolves around navigating multi-floor dungeons filled with random encounters, environmental hazards, and boss battles. Exploration follows a familiar grid-based structure, with players moving through corridors, uncovering map layouts, and managing encounters along the way. Combat unfolds in turn-based fashion, but it introduces a distinctive twist: rather than directly selecting from a full command list, the party members suggest actions, and the player chooses from among those options. This system creates an illusion of guiding rather than commanding, reinforcing the instructor role within the narrative. Strategic decision-making still plays a vital role, as understanding each character’s strengths, weaknesses, and situational advantages is essential to surviving tougher encounters. Progression is tied closely to the controversial motivation system, a series of mini-games designed to “inspire” the characters and unlock new abilities or stat boosts. These sequences are stylized and framed within a suggestive context, forming the most debated aspect of the game. In the Western release, certain elements were modified compared to the original version, but the mechanic remains central to character development. From a mechanical standpoint, the motivation system adds depth by requiring players to tailor interactions to each character’s personality and preferences. However, its presentation can overshadow the underlying strategic design, leading to polarized reactions among players. Some appreciate the unconventional approach to progression, while others view it as distracting or uncomfortable. Visually, Criminal Girls: Invite Only employs a contrast between super-deformed character sprites during dungeon exploration and more detailed anime-style illustrations in dialogue and special scenes. The art direction is colorful and expressive, giving each character a distinct personality through animation and voice work. Both English and Japanese voice options are available, adding emotional nuance to interactions and reinforcing individual character identities. The soundtrack supports the fantasy atmosphere, though it tends to be understated rather than memorable, functioning more as ambient accompaniment than as a defining feature. Narratively, the game attempts to explore themes of redemption and personal growth. Each girl carries a troubled past, and as the journey progresses, fragments of their backstories emerge. These revelations gradually recontextualize their behavior and motivations, encouraging players to see them as more than caricatures. While early portions of the story lean heavily into comedic banter and exaggerated personality traits, later developments provide more serious moments that deepen emotional engagement. The dynamic between instructor and students evolves over time, creating a sense of mentorship that aligns with the game’s central premise of rehabilitation. Despite its strengths in character interaction and unique combat structure, the game is not without flaws. Dungeon design can feel repetitive, with similar layouts and enemy types recurring across floors. Encounter rates are relatively high, which may fatigue players during extended sessions. The pacing occasionally struggles to balance exploration, combat, and motivational sequences, sometimes making progression feel uneven. These design choices contribute to its mixed critical reception, even as a substantial portion of the player base praises its originality and charm. Ultimately, Criminal Girls: Invite Only is a niche title that thrives on its unconventional blend of dungeon crawling and character-driven progression. Its strategic combat system and redemption-focused narrative provide genuine depth, but its provocative presentation ensures it will not appeal universally. For players who enjoy turn-based RPGs with strong character emphasis and are comfortable with its thematic direction, it offers a distinctive and memorable experience. For others, its controversial elements and repetitive structure may prove difficult to overlook. In either case, it remains a bold and singular entry within the RPG landscape, defined as much by its mechanical experimentation as by the debates it continues to spark. Rating: 7/10
我推荐这游戏不为别的,我只想知道2代什么时候移植到PC上面. I'm not recommending this game for any other reason; I just want to know when 《Criminal Girls: Invite Only 2》 will be ported to PC.
