Crash Bandicoot™ N. Sane Trilogy

I never completed them back in the day even though I owned them. The first and second have aged quite well, maybe not so much the third. However, in terms of a conversion, this pretty much nails it. Perhaps the ability to have higher frame rates would be nice, but at least we have 60fps.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy does a great job bringing the original games into the modern era. The graphics look excellent and really capture the spirit of the old PlayStation games while updating them in a way that feels fresh. The remastered music is decent too, though I do wish there had been an option to switch to the original soundtrack, similar to what Spyro Reignited Trilogy did. The biggest adjustment for me was Crash 1. As someone who played the original a lot, the jumping and overall feel did not match the original exactly, so there was definitely a learning curve. Not always a pleasant one, but it still made the game feel challenging, and I can respect that. One of the best parts of the collection is the amount of content. Having all three games together is already a big plus, and adding Coco as a playable character across all three titles was a really nice touch. I remember how cool it felt just being able to play as Coco at all in the original Crash 3, so having that extra freedom here was awesome. I also liked that they added time trials to Crash 1 and 2. Overall, this is a really fun collection and absolutely worth playing, especially for Crash fans. I enjoyed it enough to get every achievement across all three games, and I can definitely recommend it.

If I'm being honest, this is one of the few old school series that I don't have much knowledge on beforehand. All I mostly knew was about the hard difficulty and the obsession over destroying boxes. In the end I was very satisfied with what was provided in this polished remake. All three games benefited well from the graphics and style while keeping the original difficulty as hard as it was even with the first game getting a lot of quality of life fixes. The extra levels added in for the remake though don't pull any punches and really test platformer fans. The gameplay is simple and straightforward and it was a fun experience even for someone who didn't grow up with this. Its worth the money, especially on sale and should give it a go if you are feeling up to it.
