I can imagine my son liking this. Nice work. One thing: my display is 1600x1200 and the loading screens and dialogue ran off the right side of the screen... you might want to check any assumptions you're making about the screen size. No other problems to report though chap :)
I hate games that advertise split screen support but then forces you to play alone, while providing no menu or in-game explanations of when or how split screen will ever be supported.
Oh yes... I am thoroughly enjoying this game. It's early in development, but there's enough of a challenge going on here. I can't wait to experience more levels. Hopefully our little buddy will gain new friends in future updates. If you're a Linux user, you should be able to run the game. The only issues I'm encountering are the sound stuttering, and a few colors are slightly off. I know there's a fix for Proton that can take care of the sound stuttering. My Xbox One controller works here, too. The other thing I'd recommend is to use a dedicated GPU while playing the game in Linux. Integrated graphics fails to run for me here. That may depend on your setup, but that's been my experience thus far.
Summary: I want to preface this review by saying that I _DO_ think this game has promise but I disagree that it's in Beta. I like this game, I think it has a cute art style and reminded me somewhat of Jak and Daxter for the PS2. That said, The game is still basically in alpha stages and I don't think that's made clear enough by the trailer and description (yes, it says it's in beta but the game has been out for 6 months and beta typically means only minor changes are coming) I'm not mad about the few bucks I spent on it and I probably won't bother refunding it either but I wanted to at least have something here that mentioned what this is: an alpha. The Good: - Cute graphics Very nice art style reminding me of old games like Jak and Daxter. - Movement feels pretty good Never missed a platform in a way I felt was unfair - Cute sidekick Gotta have it - Slight nostalgia for 90s and early 00s platformers This is the promise it makes and I think it will deliver on it. The Bad: - Inconsistent graphics Some textures look like they belong, others dont. And the Crystal shader? Doesn't fit. IMHO - No Options menu Not being able to tweak settings is a huge issue - Horrible Performance Bought this to play on lower end laptop that more than meets requirements but the game isn't playable. Boot it up on my desktop with an RTX 2080 and I get stutters in cutscenes... On a 2080.... - No polish Still needs a layer of polish before it can really be "production ready" To the dev: Dont get discouraged by this, I really think this game can become something great, it's just going to take a little time and that's okay. If the game was listed as Early Access or something, I'd have recommended it despite those things. I'll update my review as well as I do plan on following this project.
Well i only recently came across this hidden gem today. ASCENT: Crash Landing Is a 3D platformer with a cool art style and hidden objectives, basically everything you expect from a 3D platformer. Controllerhighly recommend
Pros

Art style i like, its like a mash between clay and cartoon props it fits well.
Level design is fluid, and smart there is also a hidden objective/paths on each level which is nice
The level hub is a nice way to do it platforms that match the type of level you are going in nice,
Price point, for the price this game is worth it, for the content that is in it is already worth the money but if the game progress on with more levels count yourself a win

Cons

Very short, at the minute but hopefully it will grow.
No real story at the moment, be nice if the story grew, yes there is background info in the menu but give us more !!
Combat system is very clunky, you hit them they hit you, the delay between hits kinda upsets the gameflow
Controls for keyboard is awkward and no way of remaping i ended up using a controller.

Is it worth it?
At the current price point, for what you get a classic 3d platformer style game, i would recommend getting it, with the art style too it just adds to the benifts. Plus i will be keeping this one in my library and waiting for updates, for them to bring out new maps.So considering all points i would give this game a: 7.5/10 The game in its current state is fully playable, and has alot of potential so for the price point i would consider it a fair trade.
I don't mean to discourage the developer but honestly this game really really should be in Early Access. I know it says BETA on it, but it's on steam as a regular release, and it's simply not ready. The game world has promise but it needs A LOT of work. Platforming seems floaty and imprecise. Combat is clunky and unsatisfying. The sound effects are low quality and ineffective. And there are bugs. I literally got stuck because I jumped out of bounds looking for secrets and had no way back into the level, Not to mention the game is incredibly short. Right now, it's just not worth playing. Edit - Now that the game is fully out, I can safely say that I do NOT believe this game is worth playing. Basically, nothing was fixed from it's early access/BETA release to it's full release. Poor combat, poor level design, poor sound design still plague the game. Sure an extra two levels were released but they aren't any better than the rest of the game. Not worth your time or money.
Hey! Developer! Did you forget to flag your game "Early Access"? I though this product was finished. This game just seems rough. The main character is just lifeless. No expression. It looks bored no matter the context. Killing enemies isn't satisfying. They make a generic grunt when killed. They blink in and out of existence. Opening crates just spark up and disappear when hit. They don't get reduced into shrapnel. Functionally, the game is there, but it feels lifeless and not much to do. Swimming feels incomplete. Can't dive. Don't hear splashing sound effects. Just one animation when in water. There is no idle pose or moving pose for swimming. Once you are in water, can't get out unless there is a beach nearby. tl;dr Short and incomplete. Pass up.
We loved this game!
This is a really good game that reminded me the MOST of Crash Bandicoot. One thing that is particularly impressive is the camera; rarely will you have a problem with that. Cons? Well, it's not as sharp and detailed as a Triple A game but so what? And the main character is pretty dorky looking. lol OVERALL 7.7 out of 10
