It's cute but .. no. I made my character then in game it defaults me to a pink hair, not the hair color I chose. Yeah the controls are whack, keyboard only? No mouse? Can't even find a guide for all the controls. THE LEAST that could have been done was controller support and then I feel the game would be okay. But on top of it all, my audio was GONE. My headphones are on and connected to my pc, my volume is up, my headphones worked when I started a youtube video, but there is NO SOUND in this game. I'll refund till some of these things are fixed/imrpoved ...
Lovely game,and we need Chinese.

Cottonville is a very cute and relaxing game that offers a lot for a cheap price. However, if you are expecting a more complex game, Cottonville may not be for you. Pros: - Adorable art & relaxing atmosphere - The sewing and shop mechanics are very fun - Unique idea for the genre Cons: - Repetitive - Slow farming - Not much to do I would say that for the low price of 10.99, this game is worth it if you are looking for something simple that you can turn your brain off with. If you love turning your collectables/farmable items into fabrics, clothes, and dyes, this will be fun for you! I don't mind a simpler game. However, I do wish that the farming was less slow. I want to spend my time collecting items and crafting clothes! Not spending half the day just planting and watering all my crops. Even for the beginning of a game, this is too slow. It seems like the developers have updated the game frequently since its release, so there is a lot of hope for the slow farming to be improved. This is a small, nitpicky thing, but some of the kelp in the river looks like it is upside-down and should be flipped. I think it looks like it's meant to follow the flow of the river, but it doesn't translate well. Also, I do not like how the map just fades out of existence at the edges. I think an invisible barrier would be fine or some kind of shrubs or fence blocking the way. I DO like the little animals that roam around! Especially the little calico cat that sleeps on your bed. I wish there was a way to interact with them, or even to keep a pet. Maybe they could drop fur/feathers that could also be used as dyes. I think this game has a great concept and a lot of potential. It's good the way that it is (minus the slow farming) as a cheaper game. But I really do think this concept could go far if developed further. If the developers ever decide to grow it, or to make a similar game to a larger scale, I would want to see: - Ways to advance the farming and make it faster (sprinklers, larger watering cans, employees, etc.) - Larger maps with more areas to explore, and more items to collect - More ways to interact with the villagers, and ways to befriend them (maybe they could even be special customers at the shop and we could dress them up?) - Pets! Maybe they could follow us around and offer a bonus to something (extra collected items of a certain category, extra flowers harvested, bonus friendship points with villagers, etc.) Overall, I've been having a lot of fun relaxing with this little game. Keep up the good work, developers!
I'm ONLY clocking recommended as I see a lot of potential and I'm so disappointed at the cancelled kickstarter and all the stretch goal plans. Hopefully more people buy this game so we can get some more features.
Only played a little bit (just shy of 3 hours at time of this review), as it is I feel like the world is only available to you 8a.m (if you go to bed before midnight) to 6pm or 10a.m to 6pm if you have to be forced to start the next day at midnight as all the NPCs and animals will just de-spawn. You get into a repetitive loop pretty fast with how empty the world is right now. Wake up, plant/water/harvest, check clothes shop, buy crops, make clothes, open shop / sell clothes, the end. You can do some foraging, but as the game says you get way more from growing your own about 2-4 from foraging and 8-12 when growing/harvesting your own The walk speed is frustrating I think is the right word, the map is small, but the walk speed makes it feel big if that makes sense, you're not particularly slow, but you feel as if you should be able to go faster, but you can't...so like running in a dream It is really nice to have a code just know what you need to do while plotting, planting, and watering it too feels like it takes a little too long. The animations are cute like the first 5 times, then you're like okay I get it! Filling the watering can breaks my brain...the bar will fill up to show a full can, but then I'm still stuck in the animation, same with watering, it will show my bar go down then I'm still stuck in the animation. I feel like if the animation and bar synced up this part wouldn't be so annoying. I know the dev has ambitions to add more like fishing, knitting, & tending to livestock so I look forward to those Until then I think for now just syncing up the fill animation to watering can animations, and increasing move speed would be nice. If no increase to move speed then have a Maddie Magazine delivered so I can see her stock without having to walk over there

Cottonville is a gentle, cozy simulation game developed and published by RedDeer.Games that blends light farming mechanics with textile crafting and boutique management, creating an experience that feels intentionally calm, approachable, and creatively focused. The game places the player in a small rural town where they take over a modest workshop, gradually transforming it into a thriving fashion atelier through a steady routine of planting crops, harvesting materials, crafting fabrics, and sewing clothes for local customers. Rather than chasing high-stakes goals or complex systems, Cottonville is designed as a slow, comforting rhythm that invites players to relax, experiment, and enjoy the simple pleasure of creation. The core gameplay loop revolves around a satisfying cycle of resource cultivation and transformation. Players grow plants such as cotton and other fiber-producing crops, process them into usable textiles, experiment with natural dyes, and then turn those materials into wearable garments. This progression from soil to finished outfit is intuitive and easy to grasp, making the game especially welcoming to newcomers to the genre. Sewing patterns unlock gradually, encouraging players to try different combinations and styles, while customer requests subtly guide production without ever feeling demanding. The result is a system that rewards consistency and creativity rather than optimization or efficiency. Visually, Cottonville leans heavily into a soft, pastel aesthetic that reinforces its cozy identity. The character designs are cute and expressive, and the environment feels warm and friendly rather than busy or overwhelming. Customization plays a meaningful role here, as players can personalize their avatar with various hairstyles, facial features, and outfits, allowing for a sense of personal identity within the world. The clothing designs themselves are colorful and charming, and seeing townsfolk wear outfits you’ve personally crafted adds a quiet but genuine sense of accomplishment that anchors the game emotionally. The boutique management aspect is intentionally light, focusing more on presentation and fulfillment than on deep economic systems. Running the shop involves stocking items, responding to customer preferences, and maintaining a pleasant flow of sales, but it never becomes stressful or complex. There are no harsh penalties for mistakes, and financial pressure remains minimal throughout the experience. This design choice reinforces Cottonville’s laid-back philosophy, but it also means that players looking for deeper management challenges or long-term strategic planning may find the systems a bit shallow once they’ve settled into the routine. Narratively, the game keeps things understated, relying on atmosphere and small interactions rather than elaborate storytelling. The town and its residents serve more as a backdrop than as fully developed characters, offering flavor rather than drama. This works well for players who enjoy imagining their own stories and motivations, but it may feel underwhelming to those who expect strong character arcs or evolving relationships. Progression exists, but it’s subtle, focusing more on expanding creative options than on unlocking dramatic new mechanics or story beats. Community reception tends to reflect this balance of charm and limitation. Many players praise Cottonville for its relaxing tone, cute presentation, and satisfying crafting loop, often describing it as a perfect “wind-down” game after a long day. At the same time, recurring criticism points to its limited depth, modest content variety, and a sense that the experience reaches its peak relatively early. For some, the game feels closer to a polished casual title than a fully fleshed-out life sim, with repetition becoming noticeable after extended play sessions. Ultimately, Cottonville succeeds most when approached on its own terms. It is not trying to compete with large-scale farming or life simulation games, nor does it aim to overwhelm players with systems or complexity. Instead, it offers a gentle, creative space where farming, crafting, and fashion come together in a low-pressure, aesthetically pleasing loop. For players who value coziness, creativity, and relaxation above challenge and depth, Cottonville can be a charming and comforting experience. Those seeking intricate progression systems or long-term mechanical variety may find it limited, but as a quiet, feel-good simulation centered on making beautiful things, it delivers exactly what it promises. Rating: 6/10
I bought Cottonville on sale fully expecting it to be a waste of money… but, I was pleasantly surprised. The game ended up being a really cute and relaxing experience. I had fun creating my character, waddling around the small map collecting resources, and taking in the colorful, playful art style. The whole game has a very lighthearted and cozy feel to it that made it easy to just sit back and enjoy. The gameplay loop was simple but satisfying: casual farming, gathering materials, creating clothes from the resources you farmed, and then selling them by dressing customers. It never tried to be overly complicated, and I think that worked in its favor. It took me less than 8 hours to fully complete, but considering I paid under $3 for it, I definitely feel like I got my money’s worth. Not every game needs to be hundreds of hours long to be enjoyable. I also didn’t run into any bugs or technical issues during my playthrough, which honestly made the experience even smoother and more enjoyable overall.
Wouldn't really spend more than $5. limited gameplay and EXTREAMLY slow animations make a farming game stressful. Hopefully in the future UI and movement will improve. Can not currently rec it though, too light for double what it should be.
