Review with accompanying screenshots and videos in Sinical Network
https://www.sinicalanimenetwork.com/post/crossroad-review Crossroad is kalanhow and TsunamiGames's first visual novel in Steam. This is an otome novel that features fantasy and romance centered around a young village girl named Lumy. Lumy is instructed by her mother to deliver supplies to her grandmother who lives alone in a magical forest. Depending on the choices made, Lumy may end up encountering various inhabitants of the forest, and even might develop a special relationship with one of them. The game took me around 3 hours to reach all endings and obtain all achievements with help from a published Steam community guide. Crossroad has charming artwork, with a mix of cute, funny, sad, and happy moments with plenty of unexpected surprises in the endings and routes. The scriptwriter is quite creative in thinking up of a variety of characters, along with a large variety of endings, 34 of them in total. Each ending comes with a cute and/or comical SD picture. Each of the characters will also have an icon specific for that person at the end of every line of dialogue, further adding to the charm and highlights in the story. From the settings you can choose to play in either full screen or in windowed mode, but there are no options to specify the resolution. You have all the usual options in the settings such as adjusting the volume and text speed as well as skipping text that has already been seen, which is good as we have 34 endings to get through. As this was built using Renpy, there are 60 save slots total making it much easier to organize saves to work towards those multiple endings. In terms of background music, there is a large variety of pleasant tracks by Hilmer, Kamil Saners, and Delirior to highlight the charm of the game. The soundtracks In a microwave and Game Over also help to bring out the comical parts of the game. My personal favorites are CrossRoad, Never Return and Derevnya. Mostly, everything was done right in this visual novel. The only con that comes to mind is that there are plenty of dialogue choices which look quite similar in each person's route. Without referring to guide or online walkthrough, it might be difficult to reach the happy endings based off your own guesses due to this. Overall, Crossroad is a cute and funny romance visual novel with nice artwork and pleasant background music. If you enjoy short otome adventure games set in fantasy realms, then this is a good choice, but maybe wait until there is a heavy discount so that the amount of gameplay time is more proportional to the price. With that said, there are plenty of surprises and interesting characters so if you can't wait for a sale I believe you will still find lots to enjoy from this title. Note: I won a giveaway for a free Steam key for this game, so many thanks to TsunamiGames. ^^
Not your typical fairytale. XD

Introduction
Crossroad is a fantasy, adventure, otome game developed by kalanhow and published by TsunamiGames. You take on the role of Lumy, a teenage girl who's on her way to her grandma's house to return her fan as well as to deliver her gifts that her mom has sent. However, while on her way through the forest, which is rumored to be enchanted and dangerous, Lumy may find herself diverted from her main path, and who knows? Perhaps she'll find romance along the way or meet a fatal end. Only time will tell... With the gameplay, Crossroad consists of lots (and I mean LOTS) of choices. Some of the choices (mainly, the earlier ones) can lead Lumi to one of five romance routes: Fox (the Guardian Spirit), Wolf, Hunter, Wizard, or Angel. There's even a secret yuri route as well as a "true" ending and plenty of bad endings (although they tend to be on the humorous side). Also, you can collect fun items that can be viewed in the game's gallery, and plenty of CGs are present. Although no voice acting is present (as is usually the case for indie VNs), there is a full-on soundtrack. In addition, lots of Steam achievements are available as well as Steam trading cards since the game counts towards a user's global total.
Review
As I mentioned earlier, I won a free key for this game although it is only now that I've gotten around to playing and reviewing it. However, I occasionally enjoy playing older games, as I consider them (as well as other forms of media like books and movies) to be classics, which always have value. At any rate, I don't wish to digress too much, so on with the review. XD First, I absolutely enjoyed the story and getting to know the characters. Even though Lumy isn't the smartest female MC (which can be a pet peeve of mine), it's obvious that she has a good, kind heart and the spirited forest recognizes that in her. If you intend to play through all the routes, there's a recommended order, which I listed in the previous section. However, even if you go out of order, definitely save the Angel's route for last since it reveals the biggest story spoilers. Anyway, Lumy gets herself in quite a bit of trouble when she ends up diverging from her route towards grandma's house. Still, this may not be a negative since it can lead to her finding romance. All of the romances are sweet and cute, and they have their fair share of humor, too. I found myself enjoying the Fox's route a lot since he and Lumy end up having a bit of history (despite that Lumy had forgotten about it until certain events happen). Also, I loved the Angel's route and found myself laughing at times over how much fourth wall breaking happens and poor Lumy getting so confused. All I'll say is that anyone who's into video games is more than awesome in my book. XD https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3449394394 Despite that there are lots of bad endings, they're more on the humorous side, so they won't be too strenuous on the heart. lol As for the "true" ending (after which you'll unlock the Extras section that contains the gallery and whatnot in the game's Main Menu), I would debate on whether that's the case. Personally, I feel like the Angel's good ending is more of a true one even though I have a feeling that the developer's true ending is meant to be more as tongue-in-cheek. With the writing, the pacing is good. As a few who have played this game noted, it can feel short, and that's definitely true if you intend to play only one or two routes. However, I'd recommend playing through all the routes to get the full picture. I noticed a few typos in the English version, but they don't take away from the overall enjoyment of the story. As for the art, it is absolutely gorgeous. I love the colors that are used, feeling soft and pastel and never overly bright. The CGs are drawn and colored well as well as the various sprites, backgrounds, and items. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3449393919 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3449393781 In regards to the music, the soundtrack has a good variety, reflecting the moods of the various scenes that range from the sillier moments to the more emotional, serious ones. All the tracks are instrumental, and as mentioned earlier, no voice acting is present.
Conclusion
Would I recommend Crossroad? If you're looking for a fun, sweet otome visual novel that has its silly moments and lovely romance routes, then this is worth checking out. I'm happy that I had the chance to play this game, and despite that it's on the older side, I hope that others will give it a look. At the asking price, it might be a bit pricey since it took me a little over 4.5 hours to 100% complete the game. To be fair, I used a few Steam user guides to get all of the endings, achievements, and whatnot. Of course, you can choose to wait for a sale, and it's totally worth it then. Also, I just want to give a brief shoutout to futaba-tian, as her review (among many others) motivated me to check out this game for myself. She has a wonderful curator page as well, Lucy's Corner, which has even more excellent reviews. ^^
The Introverted Gamer and Otome Rakuen team up to give readers highly detailed, thorough reviews of hot romance games.
This... This game... Upon first playing it... I rage quit. I was yelling so much at the screen that the cat was hesitant to approach me. After leaving, making up with the kitty, and reading something else... I realized that I have enough patience to sit through anything. I came back and I read it fully this time. The game itself is from the Developer(s) of Typical. I like Typical. A lot. It's not perfect, but hey... I have it ready for another read... So... If this game is someone's first project or was done just for fun: I get it. But everyone who is a Creative person has to go through criticism eventually. What to play this game for: lovely/cutesy graphics. I like the clothing designs and some characters look pretty interesting. You can also play it if you want to read every otome game in existence or if you just want to see characters kiss/hook up. Know this: you wont get much pleasure out of it. But if you are up for anything? Wonderful. Now then, I shall be as peaceful as I can be... Oh and there are spoilers, but that's up to you to see if you want them or not. The MC (Main Character) is a super epically dumb person you will ever meet. She compared herself to a useless flat pancake. I agree, except... That's cruel to pancakes. You want someone who does nothing? Doesn't understand anything? Doesn't know or learn anything? Doesn't progress through the game? Doesn't know lewd things? Actually asks where "kids come from"? You found her! There is "indifferent" and then there is her. I always love to read good ends. I gravitate towards them. This is the only game I wanted the character to get owned so badly... But then again, that's getting off way too easy for someone like her. The story itself is constantly changing. Every route you play: something is inconsistent. I am not going to give examples, you can have "fun" by yourself. But know this, you will be scratching your head every moment. Also, the MC comes from a village... So if you wanna play the village card... Then go ahead. I come from a village. My family still taught me everything about reality, how to deal with people and made sure to teach me all they could. I guess we can blame MC's parents for being ungodly unbright... I think they tried to get rid of her faster. Guess dumb people do have luck. You will never, ever learn anything about the characters you meet. Anything interesting that is... Like they are just drawn. That's all I can tell you about 'em. How long does it take for MC and male to fall in love? Few minutes at most. She can't live without them almost immediately. We can write this off due to "lack of men" in the village, but that's a bit much. She doesn't even know what intercourse is... Or attraction... Or anything for that matter... I do like how no one carries the basket for her. That was hilarious. I also liked the funny fridge moment. Character stories: Fox - > Aka the Guardian of the Forest. Note: the MC can never recognize anyone she looks at, but when on another route: she recognizes them. On another route she is all into forest and not touching anything in it... In this one? Rips the life out of flowers. Not to mention she puts the flowers on the FOX at the end... WHO PROTECTS THE WOODS! Moving on. He helps guide her. You gotta take the dangerous route and constantly get into trouble, so that you can be the dumb beep in distress. Once you get to grandma: she throws him the F out. GUARDIAN OF THE WOODS everyone! Grandma is hating on him so badly. Oh and apparently he reminds MC of her father... Who we know nothing about. It ends with her finally remembering him and voila: they are in love and living together. *claps* MC forgot about him and knew him for very few minutes, called him father like = LOVE. Hunter - > You remember how she was ripping out flowers earlier? Here she sabotages Hunter's hunt... For meat... For the butcher in the village. Guess they don't want to eat meat anymore. I think at one point it said that the villagers gave up weapons. Good job. Let me tell you something about hunters: they don't just kill the animals needlessly (not all, but most). They kill to put the meat on the table, controlling the huge populations of animals if needed. Hunters will also kill beasts that might be a danger to a village. If you remove the Hunter? You will be overrun by beasts and animals alike. Then what will the humans think when the animals shall turn to feast on them? Your herbs wont save you then! OKAY so... The whole time she whines and complains to him to stop hunting in THESE woods. Telling him to go to another area or else the forest gets him. That's their main conversation. Then Hunter finds Wolf-dude who supposedly killed his family (this story will change in Wolf's route). Wolf is like: Nope, didn't do it. Hunter is like: Oh okay. Both apologize and leave. End of that tragedy. Oh and the Hunter gives up hit shotgun to do something else in the village. That MC body part that she doesn't know where kids come out of... Better be legendary! Purely falling in love *claps*. Wolf - > I think he will benefit from being in another story, only because I am into guys with wolf/cat ears, but that's not important. The MC can sense better than the wolf. She can also see in the dark and trips like a million times. Wolf might be charming, but he isn't bright. Somewhere in Hunter's route it said that he is a vegetarian. I doubt that would work in reality. Then supposedly (In Hunter's route only) Wolves have precious blood. For which they were murdered. Why not take them and study the blood? That's just wasting it. Now there is only one left? Wolf and MC get to grandma's house... Remember she kicked out the Guardian of The Woods? Well, she is into DANGEROUS WOLVES instead. She is like "oh yeah, come in and give it to me". (That's not what she said, but whatever.) Wolf and MC escape Hunter, Wolf throws down his weapons, which in English the MC calls useless and then they will be living together in his dark hole. LOVE! *claps* Lamia (IS NOT A DATEABLE CHARACTER) -> I like her. This is the best character in existence. I like everything that she does and her design? It looks like she has a hand down the front of her underwear. It's funny. Wizard - > After being called a human eater over 20x (lost count) in her mind, Wizard has goat horns and actually looks... Interesting. In this one... The story is around a tower that traverses space and time and has a star inside itself and the Wizard has no name... I will leave it at that for you know... Actually this route... Is the only thing I approve of. Like their romance? MAKES SENSE! They were trapped together for days... They were lonely and in the best ending? Makes good sense that they hook up! I was starting to look up to the last story... *claps* Angel - > Back to no emotions... This guy looks the silliest and very unkempt... BUT! His design is pretty cool too. He tells her that she is pretty much useless and is only good to be a "hot water bottle". LOVE him. He wanted her so he could get a console. Epic. Now this guy I get. Problem: He wanted the girl after all... Okay? So she became an angel... You will never hear anyone be sad over it. You don't know what happened to others. You don't even feel the conviction of the MC when she tried to convince others to help her! Oh and romance at the end yeah. *claps* By the end of all of the stories you just feel relieved that you managed to read through it. Or do you? Everything could be so much better! I mean artwork is one thing, but the story is as important! Neither of the bachelors tells the MC WHY they like her. At this point I assumed they were lonely and just wanted to bang her... They were going to have to explain to her what that is. I think the wizard did... That's why she knew about it (10 years after!),
a good Visual Novel. can recommend it. lots of answer options. the price of this game is in offer for -80% like a gift.
So, as far as dating sims go, this one is a simple one with a lot of different endings. A little over half of them are pretty easy to figure out. I only had trouble figuring out a few (specifically with the guardian angel and magician), but perhaps they are connected to specific choices before their routes appear? I didn't have enough patience to really dive into the why on that one. That being said, I was glad that there was more than three main love interests for the main character because I was worried that a lot of the game was going to be fluff and non-love interest related stories/endings. I did enjoy reading the story and liked the various endings. The graphics were good and I did enjoy them, even though it did feel as if the chibi art didn't quite match up with the main graphics of the game. Don't get me wrong, the chibi art was cute and was used only during the endings anyway. Before going on to the technical details of the game, I wanted to say that this game is full of references and puns. In the endings, in a few characters that you meet/see, etc. And I loved it. I loved that they got punny with the references as well (like "Jurassic Tower" killed me).
There is also a Slenderman and uh..tentacle "death"...that makes me see Slenderman in a new light...
Onto the issues I had with the game. I didn't experience any bugs. However, there were quite a few typos and just general phrasing that did need to be fixed (for example, in one part with the guardian angel, the game says that "hopefully it's the latter," but the latter in that case was the character wishing the angel was only pretending to be serious...which I think they meant that it'd be better for him to understand how important it was). Overall, it was just little errors here and there, but it just shows that the game needs more proofreading, especially the further along you get in the routes. It was also odd to say that there was a quiet thank you but then had the words "thank you" in all caps, which is usually seen as yelling. Some of the choices didn't quite line up to the story itself (for example, during the wolf's route, if you choose to hide with the wolf but stay where you are, you don't actually see who had come around, but later in the route, your character says it was the hunter, but would have had no knowledge on that). Besides grammar/phrasing/etc, I did notice that in some parts of the game, the text would be long and end up overlapping the textbox's border. Also, in the first parts of meeting the guardian angel, his halo would appear and disappear quite quickly, and I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be part of a specific emotion he was displaying in the story or what, but it was a bit weird to see. Overall, the game offers a lot of routes, many of them being short and quick with others having a decent amount of text (without being overly long winded). If you're a fan of casual dating sims and various endings (and puns/references), I definitely would recommend this game.
A lot of story lines that can be very exciting and very interesting, i recommend to read it if you love "long" stories !
Crossroad is a gentle, choice-driven fantasy visual novel that places emotional connection and player agency at the center of its experience. Developed by kalanhow and published by TsunamiGames, the game presents a deceptively simple journey that gradually unfolds into a web of romantic possibilities, personal decisions, and small but meaningful moments. Rather than aiming for epic stakes or dramatic twists, it focuses on intimacy, curiosity, and the quiet weight of choosing one path over another. The story follows Lumy, a kind-hearted herbalist who sets out on a short errand through an enchanted forest to deliver items to her grandmother. What should be a straightforward walk quickly becomes a crossroads in every sense of the word, as Lumy encounters a variety of mysterious beings and travelers who divert her attention and challenge her intentions. The narrative uses this simple premise as a framework for branching choices, allowing the forest itself to feel alive with possibility. Each encounter subtly reshapes the journey, turning a mundane task into a personal exploration of trust, affection, and self-discovery. Player choice drives nearly every aspect of progression. Decisions determine which characters Lumy grows closer to, what information is revealed, and ultimately which ending is reached. The game features multiple romance routes, each centered on a distinct fantasy archetype, and these paths vary not only in tone but in emotional texture. Some routes emphasize warmth and safety, others flirt with danger or mystery, and a few take unexpectedly bittersweet turns. The presence of multiple endings, including humorous bad endings and more complete “true” outcomes, encourages experimentation and replay, rewarding players who are curious enough to explore every branch. The writing maintains a light, fairy-tale tone throughout, blending gentle humor with moments of sincerity. Lumy herself is portrayed as earnest and compassionate, sometimes naïve but never passive, and her personality anchors the story even when the surrounding events grow strange. Dialogue tends to prioritize mood and character interaction over dense exposition, which keeps the pacing brisk and approachable. While the narrative depth may not reach the complexity of longer, more dramatic visual novels, its charm lies in restraint and consistency rather than ambition. Visually, Crossroad leans into a soft, colorful art style that complements its whimsical setting. Character sprites are expressive and distinct, helping each route feel personal despite the game’s relatively compact scope. Backgrounds evoke a dreamy forest atmosphere filled with light, shadow, and gentle fantasy motifs, reinforcing the sense that this world exists slightly apart from reality. Event illustrations punctuate important moments, adding emotional emphasis to key choices and outcomes. Though the interface is simple and occasionally feels dated, it remains functional and unobtrusive once players settle into the flow. The soundtrack plays an understated but effective role in shaping the experience. Music shifts subtly depending on the mood of each scene, supporting moments of romance, tension, or quiet reflection without overwhelming the narrative. The absence of voice acting places greater emphasis on reading and imagination, which suits the storybook quality of the writing and allows players to engage at their own pace. In terms of length, Crossroad is concise by design. A single route can be completed in a relatively short sitting, but the full experience emerges through repetition and exploration of alternative paths. Completionists will find satisfaction in uncovering every ending and seeing how small decisions ripple outward into different conclusions. This structure makes the game well-suited for players who enjoy replaying visual novels in brief sessions rather than committing to one long, linear story. Overall, Crossroad is a quiet, heartfelt visual novel that succeeds through atmosphere, character-driven storytelling, and meaningful choice rather than scale or complexity. Its fantasy setting provides a cozy backdrop for romantic exploration, and its branching paths give players room to shape Lumy’s journey in personal ways. While it may feel modest compared to more elaborate titles in the genre, its sincerity and charm leave a lasting impression. For players who appreciate gentle romance, whimsical fantasy, and stories that unfold through choice rather than spectacle, Crossroad offers a warm and inviting experience that rewards curiosity and empathy. Rating: 6/10
Классная новелла, много вариантов развития сюжета + интересная рисовка. Понравилось, что есть концовки, которые можно найти только после того, как будет пройдена основная сюжетка
Beautiful Artwork, I like the Last route, it's last love interest very much,,, Still the item object, sticker type kind, I don't know what they were for? Just good to look at and collect I guess???
