I've seen a few other reviews wishing for a neutral rating instead of just 'yes or no', and I can't help but wish for the same. Is the game worth the price and effort to comfortably almost complete it? Sure. Is it worth anything after the fact? Nope, won't even be memorable enough for a replay. I recommend this game for the "cozy" fun of a farming sim and getting to know the characters and feeling really immersed in your efforts as the player character of the story. It's also got engaging repetition and natural progression that'll make those who enjoy min-maxing your farms have a lot of fun there, too. However, after hitting late game and completing the main story I found that your role in this game - all of the in-character/story efforts you've put into building your player character, the world, and the other NPCs - plus the entire worldbuilding immersion get completely thrown out the window. Sometimes, this can be done in a way that really grabs the player by the collar and makes the story unforgettable (in a good way). However, I've tanked a pretty decent amount of hours laughing at the jokes, enjoying the creative references, feeling the tear-jerker moments, bothering to read dialogue and exposition, all for it to be a load of crock. Every time you boot the game up the devs have a disclaimer wishing for you to have some genuine curiosity and to not take the historical implications at face value (since it's fantasy, after all!). This message really embodies the nature of the early game, although it really just gave me such a massive ick after reaching the point in the gameplay/story that I did. Like pulling the rug out from underneath you as the player. Now it feels like a waste to keep playing it besides wanting to get 100% achievos at this point. Roots of Pacha has the potential to overshadow so many other farm sim games for its variety of game mechanics but it falls completely on its face with storytelling. I've played too many farm sim games that I enjoy with and without story that could easily be recommended before Roots of Pacha because of this glaring oversight. This game deserves to be held to a higher expectation than just some standard farming sim min-maxing slop. As long as you don't care about the worldbuilding being anything meaningful and cohesive by the end of all that gameplay, then go for it. After experiencing [REDACTED SPOILER] safe to say replayability won't be there. Full stop. Too late for a refund though! Time to let this one collect figurative dust in my steam library. Just another squandered concept for a story-based farm sim game. Now titled Roots of Potential, tysm for the good times as a Pachan tho
I really want to like this game, I've had it since kickstarter. It just has terrible pacing and npc schedules. Everything feels very artificially time gated. The game is just... boring. This is my favorite genre, but not this one.
Weirdly enough I enjoy this game more than stardew and I haven't even romanced anyone yet! the stories are lovely, the farming is nice, and the progression feels good. it doesn't feel like I'm gaming to get a hit of dopamine or the best items. it feels nice just to discover the animals, the villagers and the prophecies. I guess my only complaint if at all is that the stamina feels very limited and the stamina recovery is a tad slow
Not an intersting story or gameplay. The story, I did not feel connected to, and therefore did not care really what happened to the village, or my character. It was not immersive. And then the gameplay is slow. It takes a lot of time to move the story forward. It seemed like a lot of grinding without any real progress.
Honestly thought I had more hours in the game! It's a really really fun and unique farming sim, and extra fun when you play it in multiplayer. The contributions to the town is a super different mechanic, as well as the animals you can play music to, and being able to help the town invent concepts like being able to tell time. If you're looking for a unique farming sim experience that's very well done and fleshed out and runs perfectly on multiplayer, I would recommend it! I would've loved to have some sort of mining/combat concept. Finished? No Steam Achievements? Grindy but not difficult. Steam Deck? Perfect Rating? 9/10 My curator page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45865425-CozyAriGames/ Full videos on Youtube
i found it too dialogue and mission heavy, too little farming and exploring
