Tired of Monster Hunter Wilds? Already blew Monster Hunter World's back out? Not in the mood for MH Rises' weak ninja aesthetic? You a weeb with the need to make things bleed? Come on in. We got big tiddy demon mommies and brooding edgy sword guys with butch lesbian haircuts. Theres even an annoying lizard that just cant seem to shut the fu-BUY THE GAME. Xbox is dying, Sony is evil, and Nintendo is stuck in 1998. Onimusha isnt out for a while yet and Rockstar is set to ho the entire industry soon. Buy this and play it while pretending you love the idea of renting games at full price as the cost of RAM skyrockets.
This will be more of a preference set than a review but it might help a couple of folks looking for this "itch". I've been mainly a remnant 2 player. Before that I played a lot of Falcom games (Trails and Ys), StarCraft 2 Coop (no pvp) and the Tales games mainly. I do not enjoy souls games and I could not get into the Monster hunter series. However I enjoy certain elements of challenges as long there are more "casualized" options. GBFR in a nutshell is like Ys with the equipment system of a trails game. The gems in trails are the sigils in this game but customized to be more towards "Action" play rather than magic or straight raw boosts (you can also compare it to the Tokyo Xanadu set up) The story is just the prologue. The game really shines after that. If you are into Gacha type grinding but do not want any of the FOMO nonsense, this game is a solid recommend. You have over 20 unique characters with very different playstyles. You can set up characters to be tanks, degen tanks, mixed, DPS or pure glass canons. There is a meta obviously The end game quests (mainly the last 4) are a lot of fun to play. The last one is also very challenging. If that is not enough there are community mods that alter the missions to make them more difficult and giving you more replayability. Is this game perfect? no. It's more of a flawed gem that kept receiving polish to make it ... less flawed. Especially with the promoted features in the Endless Ragnarok expansion. If you want to do boss fights and raid I would recommend this game. Bottom line: If you were into mobile games and played Dragalia Lost then this game is basically Dragalia Lost but with more Ys combat and Trails/Xanadu gem system. Hope that helps. Thanks for reading this wall of text
The game is amazing. But I can only recommend it if you're willing to install mods that "break" the balance of the game and improve drop rates for certain end-game items. There are several important sigils in the game which have a miserable 0.x% chance to drop from, for example, a bossfight that takes upwards of 10 minutes to complete. You also HAVE to accept and embrace "save scumming" which is a technique of resetting your save file to "fish" for certain RNG outcomes. If you are not willing to do either of the above - I cannot recommend the game, as it takes an unreasonable amount of time and repetitive grind to max out characters. Mods are pretty accessible and easy to install, but save scumming is very boring and there's no work around for that. Unfortunately, these issues are enough to question this otherwise amazing game.
This has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time, full stop. I love it so much. 10/10 Pretty crazy considering it came outta nowhere for me. I remember buying it on launch, playing a few hours, then losing interest and dropping it. Got recommended a video about it on youtube one night and decided to give it another go, well.. little did I know it was a mashup of all of my favorites into one game basically. Gorgeous anime art style reminiscent of some final fantasy titles, similar feel to monster hunter grinding (ish), incredibly fun and rewarding fast paced combat, and a world with characters I've somehow fallen in love with. I'm not even through everything that's available currently in the base game but it's just incredible, and the fact there's about to be even more to do and enjoy with the upcoming expansion..? Couldn't recommend this enough.
If you don't like: Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok You should try: Again
I was surprised how fast I sunk 100+ hours into the base game when it came out. Now with the DLC I figure I'd sink another 100. It's a grindy game, but if you enjoy that, it's a very relaxing grind. +Friends make it even better. Easy to hop in, play a few, hop out. Fun working on leveling/maxing characters. There isn't much when it comes to story, even the base game I barely paid much attention. DLC has little to none of that ether.
This game is fantastic! I’m willingly playing it all over again on PC after 150+ of farm on the ps5, because this is a masterpiece! And Cygames heard us and gave us an expansion! I’m really hoping this game keeps getting updates for 10 years, because characters and content definitely won’t be a problem. It’ll be hard for them to run out of ideas.
With the eve of ER and finally getting all the achievements I figured now is the best time to review the game An absolutely phenomenal game well worth the price of admission if your willing to put the time and effort as it can be a hell of a grind, fortunately that grind is backed up by legitimately some of the best action gameplay ive ever played. While there are some similar mechanics between characters (Siegfried, Ghandagoza and Rackham all have timing to consider with there attacks for example) everyone plays in a unique and different way to the point ive hardly scratched the surface with what each can do, in terms of all the characterisation every character has little interactions with one another in combat, and during the story mode everyone has unique lines for certain portions of the in game events, I find all the characters likable and while I and everyone have favourites from the mobile game we wish were playable I think this Roster was well put together if maybe playing a little safe. The story/campaign portion only lasts a few hours and as best is entertaining at worst forgettable, chances are you've seen the tropes being used like a billion times, Relink isnt trying to be subversive or a parody it plays everything completely straight and I think it has a definitive charm, though I do agree the story is the weakest part of the experience though again it is also the shortest. Hopefully the expansion allows a bit more freedom with builds, once you get the Supplementary damage, War Ele and DMG Cap theres very little wriggle room so hope theres some updates for that. Thats really the main criticism with the gameplay I have more expression would be a lot of fun. Relink has given me hundreds of hours of enjoyment and I hope Endless Ragnarok provides many more.
