Originally like 20 years ago I bought this game on CD and it was a real blast for me the game was fantastic and so after many many years it appears on steam so of course I bought it and play it. Man how I was dissapointed ... the game itself is good almost everything I remembered was in the game.... almost.... some factors was permanently removed from the original game like heavy tanks. I was playing version where there were tigers II and pattons, jagdtigers, calioppe sherman and mine sweeper sherman and more, on this version panther is considered only as a medium tank and is the heaviest tank in the game also some of the vechicles were removed on both sides americans and germans. Thats not all, some features in infantry units are also missing like scavenging when soldier uses all his ammo and search body of other soldier for a weapon or something. So overall the game itself is still good and playable but without all of the features is only a shadow of its former version so decision to buy it and play is up to you.
This is a rare gem. You must study real military tactics (not included) and consider the psychology of the troops under your command. If you give a crazy order the soldiers or tanks will refuse to obey those orders and they will let you know so. Ammo is not infinite. Military resources are limited and tired soldiers will move slow. Just like in real life. I loved it.
Yes.
I think this game was developed by the guy that designed the panther tank. That's the only explanation for how it is balanced
I recently purchased Close Combat 1-5. I wanted to relive some childhood memories. Regrettably, these games were unplayable. Not due to aged affects, poor performance, or graphics. Literally just unplayable. I tried to load up 3 and it instantly crashed. 4 lasted 7 minutes before it was done. 5 was a mixture of both. So sad, that I cannot replay these. If they fixed it I would love to revisit. Good luck out there, everyone.
I played this game as a young man. It really hasn't lost much. The strategy hasn't changed, and you get a sense of what's happening on the ground in real time. It's just expressed in a basic, vintage way visually. The after-action report on your teams is a great feature. I consider it the best of the CC games I've played.
