I want to like this game, I really do. On paper it has a lot of attributes that I love, starting with an anime-aesthetic, design your own party from a long list of classes and races, diverse skills/equipment, etc. In practice is feels more like a half-finished game that lacks most reasonable QOL and massively pads its duration with grinding. Maybe it has been a while since I played a DRPG but I was hoping for something a bit more dynamic. 1. You spend a lot of time on a very small number of tiles/environments (at least 10 hours in). 2. What's worse, the list of monsters you may fight in each map seems to be locked, and is only a small handful on each one (feels like 3-4 most of the time). This leads to the grinding being even more boring as it is the same monster models on the same background over, and over, and over. 3. Significant difficulty jumps between maps of the same area - this connects to the points above, since you're mostly fighting the same thing over and over again, eventually they get super easy from the grinding. Jumping to the next map can sometimes send you right back to the prior map with your tails between your legs to grind more. 4. Equipment prices as WAY too high relative to gold gains, at least in the first few hours. The equipment and cost progression feels broken and hasn't smoothed out until around 8 hours in when gold drops start increasing significantly. 5. Alchemy is super powerful, but not intuitive at all. The UI is also terrible, and the fact that items stay in the "active" state after disenchanting is just nonsense and adds multiple button presses each time. That said, if you look up recommended recipes you can find strong weapons to craft early on that make a MASSIVE difference. 6. Storage... the inventory system flat out stinks. You can get a lot of random drops and you don't know what may be useful, so your inventory fills up fast and you either have to sell or store (in town) to free up space for more. 7. Travel - standard fare for a DPRG. The ability to use the map and auto-walk to a location is very welcome, as are the (eventual) unlock of items and spells to move between areas. 8. Dungeon chests - tremendously disapointing. Random monster chests are hit or miss with a lot of items dropping with negative stat modifiers, which is ok, but the fact that chests on the ground (i.e., static in the dungeon) spawn empty more than 50% of the time is terrible. I suspect you could save scam them but that's just bad design, given how few and far between those chests actually are. I feel like this game could actually get much better with mods that accelerate the early game. After finishing the 3rd major quest the world seems to be opening up a little bit (around level 21), but it has been a slog to get this far. If I hadn't crafted overpowered weapons for this part of the game (one of which I did all on my own, the other two came from a build on GameFAQs) I think I would have given up on the game already. There's a lot of good elements but they just don't seem well connected and the pacing just feels off to me. Those who love DRPGs will probably like this one, and I suspect those who played the prior games as well. Those thinking about dipping their toe into DRPGs may want to look elsewhere, unless you are truly looking for a deep and enduring grind.
Now that I have beaten it once, I feel comfortable saying that I like this game overall. This definitely has its problems, but having beaten the first two games on the psp, I knew what I was getting into. As positives: - I like knowing my stats are going up opposed to the previous two where they just kinda hover around 10 above the initial stats. - I enjoyed not having to deal with affinities in races - Most of the systems are basically improved and expanded from the previous games. - Usually you don't need to concentrate to hard when playing this, so you can play this while watching something else. As negatives: - Of the 40+ classes in this game, about 35 of them are just bad versions of the top classes. Although thief isn't a strong class, it is almost required as there are no equal alternatives in the beginning half of the game. - The game makes it seem that a balanced team of 2 physical attackers, knight, theif, magic dps, and healer would be ideal, but due to the weird balancing, the best team is basically 4 dwarf berserkers, a thief, and a healer. - Quests can suck in this game. Dungeons are usually 3-5 maps of 20x20 tiles. A lot of the quests have you finding one question mark that can be placed randomly on any one of these maps. If you use a guide you can finish these quests in a few minutes moving directly to the target, but if not, you will need to spend hours filling out the entirety of maps. My team was fairy sage/princess, elf elementalist/forecaster, human ninja/gunner, bahamoon dragon knight/samurai, felpur hero/beast, and dwarf berserker/hunter. My advice would be to never use a fairy as they die to anything, knights covering is pointless since aoe attacks will still kill the entire backline (at least a dragon knight is a backup healer), and berserkers are as amazing as everyone says they are. Mine can hit for 15-20k in one charge attack when my sage (best magic dps before ng+) was hitting a boss for 4k.
The least similar of the three games to Wizardry. Gone is the alignment system. AC has been turned into the much more familiar Defense/Magic Def/Evasion stats. You're free to assign any ratio of frontliners to backliners. Class changing no longer reverts you to LVL 1 with half your HP/MP instead opting for a separate class proficiency meter also used to learn spells/skills. Classes no longer have stat requirements and can be freely swapped to whenever you want. Weapons no longer have multi-hit tied to them instead being exclusive to most physical classes as a passive that powers up with class proficiency. No equipment class/race restrictions, however the game does have hidden aptitudes for Weapons/Shields depending on your class. Stat gains appear to be static and set in stone based on your race. If you're having trouble with the early game I recommend doing alchemy, unique to this game is how certain broken equipment can actually be used to make higher tier equipment when crafted with different materials.
An oh so typical 'remaster', no major game play fixes that I see (still with the 100 item inventory limit and terrible mapping system requiring an item, no icons), bad random combat encounters (sometimes every step taken) and back line gets one hit killed. While I've always enjoyed the kinds of games, it's come the point where something needs to actually be done to fix things instead of just farming them, make them possible to be played by a wider range of people. (Don't call me a Jester, I have never and will never be a joker, in this world or the next (happiness does not exist !!!! ))
Never encountered such a terrible port. Completely unplayable with ultrawide monitor. Completely disaster playing with keyboard and mouse. And a really stupid game in general. 0/10
然后地图上地龙卷风是进入下一张地图地传送点,红水晶是出图的传送点,问号是BOSS(第一次我不知道,直接被打了回去,没保存,游戏直接重新开始了)。
Great start for First Time players who want to try Dungeon Crawlers. But this game HEAVILY needs a Manual to fully grasp the Mechanics. As of now, there's little to nothing to go by except some untranslated wiki page on the web somewhere.
class of heroes 3 is the best in the series, its very fun to play, if you like japanese style dungeon crawler then you will like this game i highly recommend it
