Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

Chrono Trigger is a classic RPG! I love to play through the game a few times a year.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 17: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.56/day in the week to Aug 4 → 5.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This game's fantastic, the best JRPG I've ever played. One of the best soundtracks and most well-written stories across any medium. The soundtrack feels a lot like Hollow Knight, and the story like Steins;Gate; I can see the inspiration. It's crazy to me that this game's 30 years old, and despite a few things, it feels very modern. The Steam port, however, could be better; it's missing the minimap, The Arena of Ages, Bestiary, and 2 cutscenes from the DS version. Some of the DS-ported content's really hard to spot without the minimap (
Dimensional Vortex
secrets especially). Other than the minimap, there's no quest log, and the inventory system of this game could be much better. There's no search, or way to sort Equipment, so navigation can take longer than it should, especially later game. The DS'
Lost Sanctum
quest line that was ported has too many fetch quests, especially since it's long, but also has some really cool parts like the
Prismastone fusion, a game with an intended dupe mechanic, and it's even used in a quest
. Outside of the lack of a minimap, 2 other things really bug me about this port. Thankfully they were fixable with the Defilter mod in CTExt ( https://github.com/TheRealBiggs/ctext ), and the latest ChronoType font ( https://www.dafont.com/chronotype.font ). For some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason, there's a bilinear filter over this game. Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea? It makes it look so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worse, for ♥♥♥♥'s sake; this is a pixel game. I believe that a lot of the reason people don't like the "High Definition" mode of this game is caused by this filter. Once you use the Defilter mod, the HD mode, and text look far better. CTExt also fixes the weird bug that was introduced in this port, which makes your character shake while moving diagonally. It's a strange bug, and apparently the Steam port didn't used to exhibit it, but it does now. CTExt also fixes some broken glyphs and weird font rendering by letting you use the latest version of ChronoType, very nice mod. I wish Square Enix would give this port the love it deserves.
Arguably one of the best JRPGs ever alongside FF7
Chrono Trigger the Amazing JRPG you have to try
Chrono Trigger is by far my favorite JRPG . I have played this in my pre-teens and teens on both SNES and PlayStation when it was bundled with Final Fantasy IV in Final Fantasy Chronicles . I love both the retro as well as the cinematics they added in both. If you are looking for an amazing story, character stories, multiple endings, and just what I call art please play this game. I hope SquareEnix makes a remake or even an HD-2D Remaster of this amazing classic because I would definitely buy it again.
Despite how long this has been out it still crashes, and bugs out sometimes, so keep that in mind before purchasing. Getting it on sale helps excuse some of the issues, and at the end of the day the game itself is still great. If you like JRPG's then you won't be disappointed, and the New Game+ helps with getting all the endings and ensuring there's still plenty to do after beating it for the first time.
