About
Chronicle of Innsmouth: Mountains of Madness is a Lovecraftian point’n’click graphic adventure inspired by the early 90s LucasArts classics. Drawing inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s most iconic stories, such as The Shadow Over Innsmouth and The Mountains of Madness, this detective story pulls you into a thrilling investigation across fateful places like Arkham and the South Pole.
Private Investigator Lone Carter regains consciousness to find himself lying on a beach near Innsmouth. His body has been ripped apart, and as he fades away into death, he remembers in dreadful glimpses his fatal encounter with a Shoggoth. Awakened by a fire burning within, Carter returns completely recovered but forever changed. Haunted by visions of ineffable truths, he must escape Innsmouth and return to Arkham, where a mystery involving ritual murders and a plot intertwining different eras awaits.
You will not only play as Lone Carter. To unveil the mysteries of the bloodline, you will step into the shoes of three distinct characters:
Lone Carter: The private investigator at the heart of the mystery.
Abdul Alhazred: The Mad Arab and author of the dreaded Necronomicon.
H.P. Lovecraft: The Master himself, guided through the secrets of his own lineage.
A Saga Prequel: A new entry in the Chronicle of Innsmouth franchise, set 10 years before the events of the first chapter.
Authentic Retro Style: Retro art style rendered in 640x360 resolution, a true homage to the early 90s LucasArts legends.
Logical Challenges: Test your wits and deduction skills with clever, logical, yet challenging puzzles.
Expanded Lovecraftian Universe: Interact with many characters, both original and taken directly from H.P. Lovecraft’s specific stories.
Immersive Atmosphere: A mature, horrifying story accompanied by a brilliant and unsettling original soundtrack.
Prepare yourself for an adventure that will test your wits and drag you to the very limits of your sanity… and perhaps beyond.

I would love to give this game a better review, but it is not playable as it is. There are certain sections of the game that seem to transfer to a more drawn picture rather than pixel bit, however on my computer all I get is a black screen. Looking at the community hub for the game there has been calls for this to be addressed for YEARS and the devs have done nothing. I cannot play a game where I cannot see half the content. Its a real pity
I generally don't give reviews after 20 minutes, but here we are... Graphical/UI issues that have been prevalent for certain users for years are still here. Within the first 20 minutes I had to ctr/alt/tab to get out of the game when it just went to a black background with the music still going. Also, my PC mouse cursor is still in the middle of the screen and can't be moved when the game starts, and is replaced by the game cursor. HUGELY distracting. The robotic voice acting was a major turn off as well. These issues are really disappointing based on how good the first game was in the series. Maybe in the future if these issues are fixed I'll re-purchase the game. As of now, I'm waiting for a refund. (Glad I submitted it within Steam's ridiculous 14 day refund policy)
I, like most of the other players of this game, was unable to continue playing as I could only hear audio near the beginning of the same, while seeing a black screen. Three years after the release of this game, and the developer still has not fixed the issue. I have uninstalled the game and will want a refund.
Neither story nor gameplay are particularly interesting. Too many infodumps and all the interesting parts are happening in the cutscenes. Also the dialogues which take a large part of the game are not the best.
I also have the black screen issue. Unplayable.
This is the first game that I've ever decided to refund here. Thankfully, the steam support approved my refund request really quick. I am a big Lovecraft fan and I am really into Point-and-Click games. However, this game is unplayable for me since right after finishing the tutorial
and getting into that cave
the screen just turns black. The sound is still on and I can hear characters talking, so the game is still running. But I can't do anything due to the black screen and I had to use the task manager to close it. I've tried twice and it was the same result. As it turns out, this issue has been encountered by many other players as shown in the Bugs & Tech issues thread in the steam discussion section. It looks like the Developer was aware of this issue but it never got fixed after all these years. I guess this game doesn't run well with AMD or something. In addition, I just wanted to point out the voice acting was kinda awful and robotic, which really took me out of it during the short time that I was able to play the game (i.e. the tutorial).
This is bad. Far worse than its predecessor. It is technically glitchy (trying to run the game in full-screen forced me to restart my system a couple of times), the art is bad, the animations and perspective are bad. The story is bad, leaping you around between characters willy-nilly with no payoff, and there is a tremendous amount of straight info-dumping. The voice-acting is bad, with actors messing up the inflection of basic idioms, mispronouncing names of places, and no characters ever seem to be credibly speaking to each other. Dull, nonsensical, and it might bork your video card.
