About
Cease to Breathe isn't some eighty hour epic with realistic looking graphics. No, it's more of a love letter to an era of gaming that I hold very dear to my own heart. If you remember sitting in front of a giant CRT monitor, painstakingly trying to beat games like Uninvited, Deja Vu, Shadowgate, WIlly Beamish, Police Quest or Ultima Vii, chances are you'll appreciate this game.
After plunging your car balls deep into a tree on the side of the road, you find yourself in front of an old colonial house in the middle of nowhere. The door is wide open and a storm is fast approaching. While the sane, logical thing to do would be to sit tight and wait for help, you do the complete opposite and head inside where you're greeted by a few unsolved, albeit recent, murders, hundreds of interactive objects and an incomprehensible mystery just begging to be solved.
Don't expect the game to hold your hand... it won't.
Instead, embrace the freedom of being able to examine, punch and ingest just about anything that crosses your path. Do it for the LOLZ. It's cheaper than therapy! Hell, it's only $5.00! Truth be told, if you're as old as me, you've probably wondered why developers didn't continue to make these types of tongue-in-cheek adventure games.
So come on, what are you waiting for? Buy now and get endless objects that do nothing, hours of frustration, and a narration that pokes fun at all the stupid and idiotic things you'll end up doing. Our operators are standing by!

Fun game, very responsive dev too. Hope more games like this are made, something about them is so engrossing, especially horror based adventure games like this.
You wake up with your car in a ditch, a bloodied head, and a cracked windshield. Little did you know at the time that your nightmare is just beginning! Cease to Breathe is a classic-style point and click adventure, highly influenced by the old MacVenture series games (Shadowgate/Uninvited/Deja Vu). If I was told the game was developed in the late 80's I would totally have believed it, as developer Sam Thul absolutely nails the graphic style, gameplay, and ambience of those games perfectly. "Cease" isn't quite as unforgiving gameplay wise with the puzzles as say Shadowgate for instance. There are no torches that you have to worry about running out of, but you do have to utilize your resources carefully. Are you able to fix the lights in the house? Can you competently use a fire starter? Do you have enough candles and matches to proceed down a dark pathway? My first time through the game I was a bit wasteful in resource management, luckily it didn't take long when I restarted and proceeded a bit more carefully going forward my second run. The puzzles are more logic based then just "shot in the dark, I hope this works" than some other puzzle-adventures. The freeform inventory system means you can try combining everything together, hitting things, ingesting them, talking to them (or yourself) and really anything your imagination desires. Some puzzles have more than one way to proceed which is another interesting feature. To be completely upfront, I still have not beaten the game as of writing this review. I have reached out for a couple hints and Sam has graciously responded with some subtle hints that have gotten me back on track. We'll see if it's enough to get me to the finish line, because even with the hints, the puzzles here can be quite challenging. What Cease to Breathe does well though is give you that immense feeling of satisfaction when you get past a part that you were stuck at for a while. I confidently recommend Cease to Breathe for all adventure fans. These games are all but a forgotten art these days, and developers like Sam Thul deserve support from the adventure gaming community. I'm looking forward to whatever comes next!

Awesome atmosphere and logical puzzles.
Has cool atmosphere and creepy art, sadly navigation is unintuitive which makes it tedious going through rooms interacting with stuff and looking for puzzles to progress. Numerous typos throughout the game, and one in the trailer too so I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was hit with a "your" instead of "you're" which made me reel slightly considering it's a game about the writing.
Fans of Deja Vu 1&2, Shadowgate, Uninvited, and old point-and-click adventure games: this game is for you. Starts out feeling a lot like Uninvited and gets 1000% creepier. My inner child that played the crap out of the NES ports of these games is very very happy. Also 5/5 stars for making unique dialogue for punching every surface in the game.
I absolutely recommend this to anyone who is fond of the point and click adventure games, this game fits right into that genre incredibly well! This game was a trip back down memory lane, to the times when my dad would try and get me to play Uninvited on the NES, which as an adult, is one of my favorite games, because of the impact that had on me as a child. (I was terrified of that game) Now, as an adult, with kids of my own, I was able to do something very similar with my kids, and to me, that alone makes this game incredibly worth it. Sentimental feelings aside, the game is fun, very descriptive, and the creepy atmosphere is just well done and unsettling in a good way! The graphics were neat, and having the ability to try anything you wanted (with the backseat demands of my 7 year old child, haha), it was just a really fun time all the way through. The creator is also very responsive, and from what I can see, cares greatly about feedback that others provide, and I just don't really think you see that as often nowadays. You can tell the creator took great pride in making this game, and I think the result of that shows nicely in the final product! Thank you so much for making this, and genuinely can't wait for future games!
Even with less than an hour in, feel happy writing a recommendation here - laughter is the best medicine, and this delivers quite a dose already! Background: 43 years old, huge fan of the old point-and-clicks, especially Shadowgate, Uninvited, and the Deja Vu games. What I loved most with those was the freedom of action and snarky writing with the results, finding all the deaths and various funny things put in. I generally play good in games, but with ones like these, I like to try everything. If this sounds like you, you need to pick this up. Already had some good LOL moments, but the one that made me come here and leave a positive for sure was when my inner 12 year old took over and did something pretty immature (I'll be vague so as no spoilers here) - and it resulted in popping an achievement, and me laughing hard. Can tell a lot of thought went into anticipating actions you might take. You don't seem to die as much as in the other games I mentioned, which can be a good thing, and still plenty funny (actively trying, found two ways to die so far). Small critiques: Some lag with input, and can be hard to discern some interactive objects.
Fans of the classic Macventure games (or Point & Click games in general) should give this one a go! The story is good, and there's a ton of stuff to see and do. One thing I found interesting was the lack of a goal at first. Like, you kinda know what you have to do, but you're never really sure what the end is until the very end. And even then yoir choices along the way may have led you to a bad ending. My only complaints are minor and nothing that can't be fixed over time: - Too many spelling and grammatical mistakes - The font and kerning make things difficult to read at times - The game doesn't always properly reset on "new game" - the "use" function sometimes fires off when you're not ready (single clicks sometimes act as double clicks, and if you move an item while trying to use it, it won't work properly) Nothing major, and things that you'll get used to over time.
It captures the Macventure style of point-and-click adventure games very well and is worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre. There are some minor bugs (nothing game-breaking) and the developer is responsive and quick to fix them. There are similarities with Uninvited (you wake up after a car crash and explore a haunted house) but it manages to be its own adventure. Plus there are entertaining deaths from doing stupid stuff like eating knives or yeeting toilet paper at monsters. Much like Shadowgate, Uninvited, and Deja Vu, once you know what to do the game isn't very long - the length largely comes from figuring out puzzles and trying various things for achievements. There are multiple endings based on a few different actions which can encourage some replayability.
Cease to Breathe is a faithful rendition of the parser adventure games from the 90s. It's big for the genre; tons of screens & interactables. Nice art. Very challenging - not for the faint-hearted! This game won't be for everyone but if you grew up in the 90s and enjoyed your parser adventure games (or are much younger but reeeally open minded), check it out. Warning: Expect to die, lots.
