I love this game, I first played it through the psp emulator from the homebrew section years back. I was really excited when I found out it was on steam! The graphics look awesome and the music takes me back :)
This new update is a joke, they announced that it was "out now" and yet it wasn't, as of writing this two weeks after they announced the update, you still have to type in a password to access a hidden beta version, which is still buggy. Also the changes made to difficulty are literally nonsense and if you figure out how to get the Booster 2.0 you get locked into the most annoying and difficult "hard mode" ending, even if you're playing on Story difficulty. You should not be able to get back up out of that hole and risk doing this. This product is utterly terrible and Nicalis and Tyrone should be ashamed of how incompetent they are. Get a job pushing supermarket trolleys instead of being this bad.

After messing around this game on my old Wii AND the 3DS back in the day, never really getting past the beginning, I finally sat down to play this [b]classic[/b] it and it's very charming, and it's on the short and sweet side so it didn't even take long. Didn't expect it to get challenging but was quite surprised with how well everything comes together. Great game, pioneering the indie Metroidvanias, a must-play for fans of the genre. My only complaint is that this port could be improved in some technical aspects. Other than that, a treat all around. Will revisit sometime for the other endings and [spoiler]those panties I definitely found completely by chance[/spoiler]

Not the best version of the game, but it's Cave Story, still fun all around. I suggest supporting the japanese version on Switch, the whole game can be switched to english. I would say the best version that has the most content would be the Switch version, but you can't go wrong with the original FREE PC version. Support Pixel.
One of the best games ever made and you're actually a worse person if you haven't played it.
Surprised I haven't written a review for this yet but the rap album/walkthrough coming out followed by the announcement of all the switch updates (and official modding support) coming to pc has spurred me to write one finally. This game has become the backbone of so many other game series its insane, Momodora immediately comes to mind as that originally started off as what was basically a Cave Story mod. The art, secrets, boss fights, music, story, characters, weapons, every part of this game is iconic. I still remember fondly of how I first found this game in the Wiiware demo category and immediately falling in love with everything that this game is. The dedication and continued effort to put life in this game well over 20 decades after the original release is amazing (by both Pixel and the community) and truly makes this game one of the must-haves for any library out there.
