About
Your main job in Catizens is to build your town around the personality traits of its inhabitants. Just like in real life, cats require personal attention and special treatment. Combinations of different personality traits and moods affect their proficiency and obedience. Catizens form relationships with each other and will occasionally issue personal requests, so you will need to learn what makes each cat happy in order to stay on their good side.

Pick from an assortment of facial and body features, as well as personality traits to create cats with distinct looks and temperaments. Design a place just for them by decorating your settlements with pieces of furniture, plants and other items. The better furnished a town is, the happier your catizens will be. So get creative!

Catizens can learn a variety of professions – from farming, to blacksmithing or offering protection from local wildlife. Different building types unlock depending on the traits and professions available. There’s no need to micromanage the entire settlement when it gets large. Invest your time and attention in a few outstanding cats and let them become town leaders.

Develop your settlement, complete objectives and expand to areas with different environments that offer new adventures. Carefully examine your surroundings to find the best fishing spots, hidden treasures and quirky characters that may offer a quest.

I purr-chased this game for my meow-ntal health and now I cat-not stop speaking like the dialogue. Mah wife served me with the divorce purr-pers earlier today after confur-ronting me about this. Apurrently she will be taking the kitts and leaving meow to go live with her new lover in South Cat-olina. He has room fur them in an ameowzing beach house. Mah felines are hurt and very fur-ragile right meow but hopefully the pain will paws soon. Its ruff. If anyone can purrlease help me find a good pawyer that would be pawsome because I just want mah kitts back. :( Funny story... As I was walking downstairs to go play Catizens on Steam, my cat jumps right in front of my walking path and I fall down the flight of stairs. After I finally got to the computer and start up the game, my cat jumps on my desk and knocks over my glass of water and now the keyboard no longer works. Great game though. It’s a relaxing game, requiring little thought, which helped pass the time since my wife left with the kids. My only wish, is that I had friends to play with to fill the loneliness..... or even just to talk too..... or even see. My seven cats love me though. Let us raise a glass of milk to our fallen warriors. Morituri te salutant. This is a really cute game. It's basically The Sims or Sims City with cats. There is a lot more to Catizens than just cute cats doing cat things though. It is a pretty serious town-builder where you need to use strategy and planning in order to advance through the campaign. Bear in mind that the game focuses heavily on cat per-sonalities, and often the cats will do whatever they want, depending on their mood. If they get fleas, stay awake too much, or get in a cat fight, they will be in a crabby mood and won't work as efficiently. They can even get so angry that they leave your town, unless one of their friends can talk them out of it. And yes, your cats can die in combat, but they each have nine lives and your other cats can revive them, and some can develop a skill to "ressurect" the fallen felines. I played over 50 hours in between my account and my wife’s boyfriend in the campaign mode, and it was a really rewarding, fun experience. Lots of stuff to do, and each "level" presents a different challenge. Construct buildings with your architects, farm and make soup with your farmers, craft weapons for your knights and rangers with a blacksmith, and use magic with your acolytes. You can accessorize your cats with ribbons and flea collars or give them a catnip high. Resource management is a major factor in this game. Food and wood seem to be the top priorities, and you really want to avoid having hungry catizens or else they will get into fights or even leave the town. This game reminds me of The Sims, because you start off by picking their traits. While you're playing, you can either assign to tell what your cats should do, like take a bath, collect resources, go to sleep, guard areas, etc., so I really enjoyed that element of play, and you can also interact the cats like you would in The Sims, such as having a conversation and building good relationships! The game functions well, but you need to get used to the game mechanics and using WASD to control the camera is a bit annoying at first. (I use a mouse that I can program the keyboard strokes so I can play the game essentially one-handed). And there isn't really much instruction to how to play the game, and it took me 40 hours until I found out that I can use shift right click to que a task. It’s fun, engaging, and deep, it provides hours of playtime that will seem like minutes. Highly recommended. 8/10
20+ update: It grows on you. Still got lots of problems. I still wouldn't recommend to someone because there's nothing you can do to change the game to fit how you want to play. Rimworld and Sims have mods and dev mode to switch things up. This does not. Issues: Cat list is too large in size. You can't change size. You have to keep scrolling. Scrolling seems to very top and very bottom if you use the the mouse scroll. 'Slept on Ground' - debuff even when specifically having the cat sleeping in the bed on the second floor for their 'trait' In the mid level areas, constantly get rats and undead stacked together so there's 5 mobs The normal cats are way too slow at moving around. Training dummy to train up your combat cats is missing 95% of time. I didn't have it in the whole campaign and had to restart 7 different maps in sandbox for it to pop up. The 'report a bug' button doesn't work, freezes up your game, and you have alt+f4 to close. No dev options for messing around or fixing bugged things. Cooking things is a complete waste of time, not efficient at all. If you go the grain-flour-bread route, you will have no food. The cooking takes way too long. If you just plant cabbages, you are good to go. It's 6 of the 10 talent points to be able to use all of it and it's worthless. You can't tell how many lives a cat has left unless they are downed. So unless you take not note of them for all your cats, you have to guess. Milk restores a life but if you don't know how many they have, you just guess some more. No warnings for: -Level 10 is max -You can't respec -The witch potion can fail -Intellect says it increases experience gain but nowhere does it say if the character has zero intellect stat that they get no experience whatsoever. -Only the characters that have things unlocked, can use them. Example, if you unlock bread, only that one character can cook bread. Same for smithing. Need to add: Customization of game settings in general besides set difficulties Customize other cats besides the first two. Disable items from being used. You can't cook soup if they keep eating the pumpkins. Disable beds from being used. A trait requires cat to sleep on second floor but they constantly choose whatever bed. Disable use of certain buildings. You don't want to get rid of a farm plot but you don't want them using it for the timebeing. Manually reorder cat list. The cat list constantly gets reordered on it's own whenever a cat gets a profession. Respec potion. Intellect points are useless after level 10 Option to go past level 10. You could get all talent slots and/or Devs could even add the basics of general health/strength/speed talent options for after level 10 only. Option to stop characters from doing certain tasks. So many times characters are picking farm items instead of going and picking up other items Equip more than one apparel item. You should be able to wear a hat and collar at the same time. You should even be able to wear a flea collar and a normal collar at the same time. Hide/filter locked buildings Select dropped resources to be gathered without manually having to force cats to do so. This is mainly because the farms are apparently set as a 'priority' so if you have a farm, 1/10 chances you'll get your resources picked up in any decent time frame. There's so much that could be added to the game .
Too damn hard/time-consuming even on Catsual. Got stuck on level 4. Too stressful, not chill at all.
A while ago I found a game breaking bug in the lava area (the final levels) the whelplings would just fly through my stone walls/gates and destroy me after starting the level. I couldn't do anything as they were coming so fast and I couldn't out heal the damage or collect enough resources. I reported it to the devs through their discord and they told me the fixed it but it would be a while before the patch rolled out on out on steam to fix it. It has been 3 months..... I was very much enjoying this game, I'm still kinda miffed.
There's just not enough going on. It's a village simulator, but the mechanics of the village are dead simple. It's mildly entertaining for a short while, but then boredom sets in pretty quickly. Yes, it does have a lot of micromanagement, where you need to issue direct orders to cats to explore, or open chests, or fulfill one of the cat requests. Micro isn't decision making, it's just needing to issue a lot of orders that don't require any thinking. It's cat themed, and the cats do things cats are famed for, like eat pumpkins and take baths ::rolleyes::. Really, it's a furry village simulator, a colony of humans where everyone is wearing a cat suit. The blurb says it's "inspired by Rimworld and the Sims," but it's pretty distant. Probably the most annoying thing is that your villagers have hunger, hygiene, sleep, and entertainment needs, ala the Sims, but you can't see any of them, completely unlike the Sims. Mostly you hope they'll take care of their needs on their own. Often enough you have to remind them to take a bath, or that they should be sleeping in their own houses, not the tent for homeless villagers.
This game should still be in early access due to the number of bugs that can either ruin the game or even soft lock it... Now that I bought it, I will continue, because the concept itself is great, but otherwise, it's sometimes a nightmare to play it... I already rage quited because of bugs ruining everything. Oh, and fun fact: the "Report bug" button also led me to a soft lock.
Unfortunately, I can not recommend this game. It is cute and so. But: - controls are terrible - battles are messy and unbalanced - cats are wandering all over the place going out of reach and getting themselves killed - no way to build decorations or even defenses freely, everything is locked behind skills/traits/wishes/etc. - insane raids just from start on some missions, forcing to restart over and over on normal difficulty
Did not live up to what I hoped it would be, which would be.... an in depth survival crafting game with kitty cats. Instead, it's shallow and with far too little to do to make it worthwhile. A great could-have-been game.
Well this was a disappointment, city builder with cats as citizens should have been an easy win, cause it’s cute representative of genre, that is not that often provides lovely titles. Buuut, just look at screenshots - graphics look like they were lifted from mobile device and unfortunately gameplay along with ui too. What’s interesting that it seems like Catizens was not made for that, it was a pc game, however as mentioned does not feel like that. Sound design matches quality of two other aspects, that’s all that could be said about it. Plot is probably the best among worst, even though it’s nothing to write home about - you’re part of Cat kingdom expedition and go through several varied locations from easiest first green pastures to volcano top with fire dragon living there. City builder aspect btw is pretty small as everything else - there aren’t many structures you could place and most of them are locked behind your builder skills. Oh right, all your cats could be either without profession or one of six - knight, acolyte, ranger, farmer, builder, blacksmith. Each of them deals with their specific tasks, except for combat roles - ranger, knight and acolyte, who are all geared for fighting. Others can lvl up by performing their job, lvl up gives option to choose one of talents that could lead to unlocking new buildings. With each next level you could only get several cats along with you, so have to pick carefully to beagle to get essential stuff, for other things, got to lvl new cat every time. Combat is worst part of game, it's automated, so you have no real control, only choosing target, that your units might engage or not, they could also retreat and pathfinding is horrendous. Btw, if one of your two “main” cats that go with you each time died - you got to reload.
