A lot about this game is great, and for the most part I truly would recommend it. But it is just too buggy at times. When there is 36 water, and yet people start to die of thirst? When you have an empty bird house that was perfectly functional before, but after moving some things around, the birds now pretend that it doesn't exist, so they stubbornly tell me they don't have a home while the empty birdhouse just stands there. The birdhouse is not filled with food, even though there is birdfood in storage, and all my drifters are capable of bringing food to the birdhouse.. And as said before, the birdhouse functioned before I moved it, so what on earth? I worked really hard on making a beautiful floating island basically, completely powered by solar pannels, giving all the drifters an outstanding home. Leveled them up and asigned them good jobs. Grew a rediculous amount of crops, fish and seaweed. And for a long time had an abbundance of food. But as stated before, when I moved some things around, all of a sudden no matter what I did, it was constantly low on food.. The game also started freezing a lot. My computer was doing fine, and the map cuts off when you go too far back (I'm assuming so the game doesn't go crazy when you travel a long way) And yet the game kept freezing, forcing me to restart it over and over. Basically: I had a lot of fun with this game, until I didn't.
Game is several years in development and I can find tons of bugs in first 30mins of playthrough, how is that possible... For example, if you use map and use mouse to navigate instead of keyboard, when you exit map boat is no longer on your screen position so you have to find it; You can build scavenge boat, when you click it it says the boat is ready to use, but from that point onward you lose ability to scavenge islands because boat refuses to be used, and people do not swim directly to islands either... Like come on, if I can find these issues in initial hours with game, what were devs doing for all these years?
This game is just ok... The early game is fun learning all the new stuff and how it works together. The controls on KBM are polished and well thought out. The Controller ones are a little jank at times and have hard to find options. The start of the game tutorial fails to show you much of anything. I learned everything from reading the slides. I don't know if this is a bug or a feature. The start was fun as I said. It was when I had 4-6 people on board and starting the electric potion of the game where the snags began. "Oh you want this water to be electric powered? Well you missed 4 other things and haven't even found any electronics in 2 hours. Also to salvage them you need specific tools. Must be crafted at nauseum...." One gate/hoop after another. I played other games similar like Planet base, IXION, and Frost Punk. Those were less tedious. I was disappointed in this supposedly chill game. mid game stuff is way too resource heavy. Or hard to get. Also, I got inventory locked way to many times and it is not simple sometimes when you are just trying to upgrade the storage. The game is not too difficult. It can be done. Just feels unbalanced in the mid game.
I'm giving this a thumbs up because at it's core, it's a pretty neat game. The art style is enjoyable, too. Where I run into an issue is that as your boat town grows bigger, the amount of micromanaging you have to do while balancing all the different buildings gets to be fairly tedious, all while chasing a finite amount of resources. That tends to pull you out of the enjoyment of just running around and seeing what's out there. So, recommend, but with that caveat.
Relaxing, but survival themed. Mechanics that are simple enough to not demand too much of my tired brain after a day of work, but still engaging enough to keep me entertained. Just the kind of escapism I've been craving.
Fun. I looked at this game a long time ago but read about some issues. Decided to check it out after it's release and haven't had any bugs that I know of.
Nice little 20 hour game. Fun main gameplay loop, nice art style, decent balance of challenge and chill. It doesn't have the best tutorial out there, so be ready to play one game and screw it up bad. I beat it on the second play through after I understood the mechanics. Very cool game.
A really lovely base building game with the addition of exploration and salvaging. It's got a great artstyle, chill music and bags of character. Took me about 20hrs to complete the storyline and explore all of the mechanics of the game. Well worth it <3
