🎬Gameplay Video🎬
https://youtu.be/obIS5MP47pI CASTILLO: The Nine Circles is a retro FPS full of colour and personality. I love the tongue in cheek humour and silly shenanigans that seems to meet you around every corner, from the disgruntled humans complaining about purgatory, to the melodramatic evil forces with their cheesy dialogue and hilarious one-liners. Everything is just so playful and wonderfully camp, and never felt annoying or forced. There is an interesting story based around Dante’s Inferno, and each of the nine circles of Hell has different enemies and its own identity. Game play is not as fast as the preview video would suggest and there is plenty of opportunity to shoot enemies from afar to clear your path, and it felt quite measured for the most part, interjected with bursts of panic when occasionally you get outnumbered. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3075855992 There are numerous weapons and special abilities that can be bought from the vendor in each level. To purchase items from the vendor you will need to find money bags hidden around the level. These abilities can open up new paths of discovery in previous levels that were formerly impassable, like the ability to run on walls, or destroy spider webs blocking your path. Each gun uses a different amount of ammo and has different damage rates. I found switching guns for different purposes helped preserve ammo. Each gun has its own ammo however, so if you run out of ammo using the shotgun for example, you can switch to your pistol. There is plenty of ammo lying around so I barely had much of an issue on this front. Enemies get more interesting as you progress with some taking a few shots to kill. If you die, you respawn at the start of that level with all your upgrades and abilities intact. Enemies all have their little areas they patrol so you get to know where and when they are going to appear. Flying enemies can be particularly annoying as sometimes you cannot see them coming and it’s only your health reducing that gives you a clue that they are attacking you. The game is described as a collectathon but there’s not much to collect. To enter a new circle of hell you have to find shards hidden around the level and spend enough shards to open the portal. Each shard is obtained when a mini level is completed, like a short and intense battle against multiple enemies, or even a Mario Kart like race around a grid avoiding obstacles. The mini levels are always fun, if not a little basic, and quite imaginative. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3075991543 The one issue I had with the game is that these shards can be quite difficult to find. The levels are quite big and you have to try and remember where you have been, and it is quite easy to go around in circles. I would like to see some sort of guidance in finding these shards like a mini map or signposting in the level. I did get a little confused with the shard process. Even though I had enough shards I was unable to open certain gates for some reason and the allowed exits weren’t signposted again. If you enjoy searching for items, discovering new paths, and using abilities to unlock and reach new areas, then there is plenty of scope here, but otherwise it may be a little annoying to you. There are a few little bugs here and there, like I fell through the map a few times on one mini level whilst trying to obtain a shard, and you will probably encounter a few strange things and ask yourself if that was supposed to happen, but there are no serious issues that affect game play, and in general it’s a pleasure zipping around the levels at speed shooting away at enemies.
🍳Conclusion🍳

CASTILLO: The Nine Circles is a well thought out FPS with a wicked sense of humour that is certain to amuse and delight. Game play is quite chilled and almost feels like a puzzle game rather than an FPS because the hardest element is finding the shards needed to progress to the next level of hell. I quite enjoyed the lack of intensity, as I don’t like things too hectic, so if you’re looking for an entertaining story, with colourful characters and levels, but nothing too difficult, then I would certainly urge you to try the demo. I've been having a blast playing, the diverse worlds, and wacky theming I love how new abilities making going back to previous levels worth your time And the amount of secrets hidden around
I loved it, super fast paced and a ton of fun all the way through If you're on the fence, try out the demo (progress carries over!)
OH HELLLLLLLL YES, This is Really REALLY NICE A Hidden Gem, Nicely Made, The Music is wondrful to My first 45-ish minutes with the game so far, and I enjoy it, the beginning is mysterious, and it just takes you into the world of hell not to long after, and the sense of progression is nice, I LOVE THE ZIP LINING, when I found out you could Zipline, boyyyy I was like "yeah this game is pretty nice" Gunna Edit this once I'm further into the game or beat it.
Let’s get this out of the way right at the beginning: This is a Collectathon first and foremost. Yes, it works as an FPS, no doubt, but when that’s what you’re looking for, you will probably be disappointed. And that’d be a shame, for Callisto: The Nine Circles is an amazing game. What is a Callisto then you ask? Well, think Super Mario 64, combine it with Castlevania Symphony of the Night and clad this in retro-FPS garb, and you have about half an idea what to expect from this game. This is a sequel (well, kinda prequel… pre-sequel?) to the dev’s previous game Castillo: Shattered Mirrors, and if you’re familiar with that, Nine Circles takes every aspect of Shattered Mirrors and improves on it tenfold. There’s more to collect, of course, but the puzzles, the platforming, the combat, all has been dialed up to 11 and the story, level design and soundscape to somewhere between 12 and 13. There’s a demo that gives you a rather good idea of what the game has in store for you (although in many respects it just scratches the surface), so check that out and if you feel that this could be something for you, trust me when I say that the full game will most definitely exceed that.
*REVIEW UNDER CONSTRUCTION :) This game is a blast and you can really feel the love oozing from this game. Everything from the soundtrack to the voice acting (although be it very homemade it adds to the charm IMO :)) And the gameplay itself is very fun, exploring all the different worlds (although i havn't beat them all yet i sure do expect to soon enough :)) The worlds are all very creatively put together and the art style really lets you appreciate all the work thats clearly been put into this game Even during pre-release bugs that were reported got fixed faster than i could boot up the game again so that was incredible to see props to the dev!
A shining indie in the FPS Collectathon space! A lot of fun and gave me a good few hours when I bought it, cant recommend enough if you want a more relaxed experience I will, indeed, get over there and buy some guns
Poggers Loaded with creativity and passion. Fun first person shooter level design, with a twist of Banjo kazooie collectibles.
Very fun shooting
fun game, overall common enemies are all in pixels, and none are particularly annoying, but the bosses are more like set pieces, I'm not sure how to describe it. the guns are pretty cool, and the running animation is pretty cool there are little minigames to get shards too, such as doom, but some are more annoying than others (the gokarts) the voice acting is insane. its obvious which parts are supposed to be serious and which to be comedic, and its obvious that everyone had fun overall, arcadey, in a good way. past complaints: the voicelines arent consistent with volume, and shooting all the dimensional rips is repetitive
