an absolutely incredible game, its a shame its almost 10 years old at this point and it will never receive the amount of love and attention it deserves. i played this all the time on my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ iphone 4 as a kid, i contacted the composer a couple of years ago and he was a pretty chill guy overall an incredible roguelike, well balanced, intuitive and simple (your character doesnt have 20 million different stats following a complex damage formula), banger soundtrack. truly a shame it didnt end up becoming famous
Don't let the hours here on Steam fool you, I've been playing this game on mobile since 9th grade. One of the most fun little roguelikes out there, and definitely one of my favorite games ever. The artstyle is simplistic and retro, the soundtrack is a BANGER, and the gameplay mechanics feel chunky and rewarding to get a grasp of. I would recommend Cardinal Quest 2 to anyone looking for an easy-to-play/hard-to-master roguelike as a gateway into the genre. I wish the modding scene for this wonderful game were more lively...
even though it says i have only 32 hrs, i actually have 146 hrs, most are just from offline mode. probably around 100 hrs on mobile. i love this game
Don't let the "crappy" graphics fool you. This game is a jewel. There are tons of cheap games which don't look like much. This isn't one of them. Give it a chance ;)
I I like Cardinal Quest II. I recorded some of my progress in Cardinal Quest 2. Please take a look if you value a more Audio / Visual experience, as I discuss the game as I dungeon delve, wasteland wander, and glade stomp my way through it; in style! https://youtu.be/cB0WDee7bN4 Cardinal Quest 2 is an Indie, RogueLike RPG with Pixel Graphics that is all about presenting a very welcoming and approachable Dungeon Crawler to the people.
Procedural Generation + Optional PermaDeath:
Procedural Generation of the Dungeons and optional Perma Death are present, as is a very fast playing dungeon delving style that drives you forward, as resting only occurs between floors, and your character will not retreat! There is no stair pulling or dancing here, only square dancing! And once you leave a floor, there is no return, so get what you need before you go.
No Mana?!
There is no mana, SP, or stamina bars here, as you’re activated abilities are based off cooldowns, so filling your small bar with abilities as you adventure is a smart idea, scouring the floors to fill them up. You find these active abilities as you explore the dungeon environment, and there are a few you can grab from your small class talent tree when you Lvl Up.
Only 4 ways to go…
A four direction Rogue Like (think North, South, East, West only movements), Cardinal Quest II offers a very approachable DungeonCrawler turn based experience, and automatically gives you gold for the trash loot you find or don’t want, greatly minimizing any potential inventory shuffling or encumbrance limits, doing much to diminish any potential points of friction for those new to more tactical turnbased action.
The Clockless One!
There is no hunger clock, corruption clock, water clock, or any other clock type pressure on the player that I can think of, unless there is some sort of ominous clock type enemy I have yet to encounter…
Optional Meta Progression:
There is optional Meta Progression present, tied to achievements acquired in-game; they grant additional starting abilities, likely geared towards giving starting characters a chance on the hardest difficulty. You don’t have to use them, but they are a nice option for those so inclined. While I do like it, I do have some critiques / requests, as Cardinal Quest 2 has the potential to be an even better RogueLike than it is currently.
Critiques / Observations:

1. The character Lvl Ups are often not very interesting:
The talent tree is tiny, and doesn’t present much in the way of real choice. The choice boils down to: Do you want more damage, more Hp, or something else, and you need to choose one of those to put points in the 2nd tier abilities. And it seems that you need to be lvl 4 and have a point in a linked tree to put a point in those 2nd tier abilities, and lvl 6 to put a point in the 3rd tier abilities. It is very limiting, as you can only put talent points into this little tree, you can’t directly increase the 5 slotted abilities you find and end up putting on your bar, only the ones on your talent tree. A system closer to something like ToME (Tales of Maj’Eyal), where you can put points into abilities, or even an entire class tree you unlock would be much better. And / Or, just auto grant the damage and hp gains per lvl, as many other RPG systems do, and allow points to be put in the found abilities. That way, far more interesting Lvl choices are presented to the player.
2. The current 4 direction movement is Very Limiting.
8 direction movement, a movement system that DARES to allow NW, NE, SW, and SE movement is FAR more immersive and intuitive then the very limiting current N, S, E, W, system. Please offer 8 direction movement, it will add more challenge and believability to the game. Those 2 critiques / requests aside, Cardinal Quest 2 is a good game, and is a very approachable DungeonCrawler. A turn based, PermaDeath packing, indie roguelike offering engaging Dungeon Crawling in a retro pixel package that you might like. Give the above video a watch, and see if you like?

This is the best mobile app I've ever played. When I could no longer download it on my iPhone, I was sooo excited to see the game on Steam as well. Please give this game a try!! You will Not be disappointed! :)
One of my favorite Roguelikes if not my favorite. I wish it was still on iOS. I have it still on my iPhone 11 luckily play it all the time but would want to get it on my new iPhone.
