The game itself is decent, and the most negative reviews are about an issue you can simply disable in the settings, basically I would give it a thumbs up so far. But seriously.... your first Characters are: Black man from nigeria (for whatever reason his origin is important, its not mentioned on any other hero) Lila haired lesbian/Bi woman Brown guy in wheelchair Strong independent asian woman Latino Meanwhile all white characters so far are evil or complete meatheads. They just tried to check every single box possible. I guess a trans hero will be following soon. I mean, whatever, at least it doesnt have the usual woke garbage shoved into your face like other games do, but this is just a thumbs down for me. Might change this into positive if the rest of the game keeps beeing decent. Edit: Aaaand the next Hero is a muscluar something with deep voice and breasts. Sigh....
So i get it, The negative reviews are most likely do to, Difficulty & gain, What this mean is, Difficulty has replaced overall content, There's very little interaction between the players & this world, Even your base of operations for that matter, Which sucks because, Despite the poor voice acting & a story with cringy side plots, The overall concept is entertaining, There's some good jokes in there as well, Players cannot grow at their own pace, Or Grind for the win, This game is what we call a 1 fits all strategy game, Even in the game, The developers are trying to push you towards a specific strategy, Games like X-COMS, gave you more variety, You felt like you had more responsibilities & overall authority in how you play the game, Would i recommend it? no
GOOD CONCEPT, HORRIBLE EXECUTION. THE FACT YOU CANT LEVEL UP HEORES IN ANY OTHER WAY THAN BY COMPLETING CHALLENGES FORCES YOU TO PLAY IN CERTAIN WAYS, ITS JUST NOT FUN.
It's not a terrible game. It's biggest letdown are the "skill levels." They're just boring they're simple .5 to 1 more of something it does, like deal damage or disarm. It would've been cooler if it unlocked more ways to team up with each other, or different ways to use the ability, like instead of the speedsters dash kick being a straight line you can curve/bend it. Or, the speedsters dash through stuff swaps enemy placement of everyone you pass through. Stuff like that would've been fun. And the objective system having skill level resources tied to it is annoying. You end up doing the same missions over and over and over until you do it just right. And a lot of them seem to be balanced with the player having gotten a few skill ups and levels they shouldn't have at the time the mission took place. But that may be because of how the game trickles heroes to the roster and they all start at level 1, so the wanted you to go back and do them to level them up. I don't know. And all of the damage is low, you're meant to knock enemies around, similar to Midnight Suns, but it's not as satisfying in this game. Like, landing a good chain lighting should give you a little jolt/rush, but it hits for 1 damage, so it feels meh, unless you hit explosives. So far the game isn't bad, but it's not great. At the very least the characters are interesting and diverse. The concept is great though. Those skill levels could use some work though, they should feel more impactful. I'm glad I got it on sale. The game is only 30 hours long, and I struggled on a few of the missions.
Boring as hell. Replaying same missions over and over to find that perfect move/action combo that lets you complete the mission. Disgustingly lazy approach to make game seem bigger than it really is. Allowing only single quicksave makes it even worse as in many cases to try new appoach you are forced to replay whole mission. Stay away!
I rather enjoyed it. Solid tactical combat with heroes that all feel very different. The story is a bit thin and stealth could be a little better implemented, but the core gameplay is solid. I'm bummed to see that there are currently fewer than 500 reviews and the consensus is mixed, as that would suggest there will be no sequel. This game is good, but I wouldn't call it special; I feel like with more resources and player feedback, Capes 2 could be something special.
Like many other games on Steam, this is one I would hit the Neutral option for if that existed. With that said its not a bad game. It's just an average game that doesn't live up to my dream Superhero XCOM. The gameplay is solid. There's about 7 heroes with their own unique powers and abilities and they do all play differently from each other. Enemy variety is decent with just enough new enemies ensuring that you never get bored however the environments could use some variety to them. There's no base building and the heroes will all level up the same, with you getting control over who and what gets level up first. For context I played on Normal difficulty. Some other reviews have stated that the game tries to force you to play in a certain way but I disagree. Towards the end game I frequently brought in heroes (who I was still trying to level up) that were not listed on the recommend mission select screen and was still able to do just fine. Certain abilities however are going to reward you more than others, for example disarm and push powers are critical to achieving bonus side objectives so you are strongly encourage to prioritize those abilities in level ups. You will also not normally max level up all heroes power and abilities in a playthrough without grinding several missions, with that said on Normal I was able to beat the game without having max out all heroes so that's not too big a deal. One thing to note is that if you're trying to get all of the bonus objectives (which you need to do for level ups) you will have to replay most missions at least once. The game only gives you a quick save and a "load from checkpoint" save which you will have to use unless you want to grind missions for XP in the replay room. Between unclear enemy movements, enemy's spawning in with no warning and changes in mission objective its very easy to screw yourself with poor team placement, hence the need to replay missions. The story is just okay but it feels like some edgy teenager wrote it. The game is trying to tell this morally grey story about how the golden age of superheroes is dead and that they need to stop playing games and end things no mercy style. That's also why they don't have traditional superhero costumes, instead going for a street fighter look. But the problem is that there's no real intelligence put into this world. The villains are supposed to have complete control over the city and are ruthless (as shown by them randomly killing innocent civilians all the time) and yet the heroes will frequently walk into their bases with no issues. (There's not even a mission trying to setup the heroes getting access to said base). Likewise the villains capture the heroes family members and learn were their base is......and decide to just fight it out like some cartoon villain. At least they put in some effort to talk about the morality of killing the villains but it comes across in a very childish way with no real logic or thought behind it other than "killing is bad" vs. "Well what else can we do with people who literally run the government". Yea I'm willing to bet this was written by a Punish fanboy. Don't play this hoping for a team that's going to bring back the golden age heroes. Overall though its not a bad game, but its not a good one either. It leans more towards the recommend then the not recommend.
they banned me for asking about the game, weird.... anyways i refunded shortly after as they were mass banning everything, i guess they cant mass ban outside of steam and so i went on my youtube with 80k subs and reported this as word was already catching on elsewhere there was a need for ample warning as this game blows too.
this game sucks. immediatly stuck in a hand holding boring tutorial fight by numbers BS. no character creation.
