The Golden Era of Racing Games: 2000s
Insanely good for the time it was made, if you cant run assetto corsa on your pc, try this! Im running this on Linux Mint - Intel i5 Cpu, Intel UHD 620m GPU, 16gb ram on everything high and 40 cars in rain! (could not do that in assetto corsa - especially the rain)
I'm 65 and been sim racing about two years own 30+ games plus iracing either this game is for me or I'm for it because of the realistic feel. In real life I have raced cars owned probably a hundred cars I have driven all of them beyond there limits and crashed quite a few. This game lets you go beyond the edge and bring it back. Smooth is still faster but it rewards aggressive driving which everybody knows is more fun most games you hit the edge your gone no saving it here its hard to hang on but possible the brakes are the harder you push the more you stop you can work the gas and just get a feel. it looks great it sounds great runs great but the ai is a little primitive but precise at what they do. I'm surprised its not talked about more like the big games. I highly recommend it and especially if you are a beginner. So if you want a good one and inexpensive that you can take to the edge of catastrophe with no driving assists and barley survive and look damn good doing it this is the one for you.
to me the controls in this game feel light years ahead of assetto corsa (all games) or any other modern racing game for that matter . also it can run smoothly on laptop . also you can play on LAN with friends . also its just very fun !! my favorite racing game on steam , very special . 10/10
it is pretty fun but the helmet is a bit annoying but all you have to do is delete the helmet files
Why am I playing (and recommending) this game in 2026? Through a cruel twist of fate, my gaming laptop is bricked, and now I'm on a decade old Linux notebook. My use case might be niche, but it's not unique. Lotta people out there trying to game on a potato! Are you looking for a realistic racing sim that runs great on older tech? RACE 07 is worth your time! As others have said, this is a great (and inexpensive) option for people who can't run current- or last-gen titles. Also worth pointing out that this one's acutally still available to buy, which is sadly a rare thing - I miss you, TDU2! The standard game comes with a great selection of tracks and some interesting vehicle categories. While touring cars are the main focus, you also get open wheel racing with F3000, Formula BMW, and Formula RaceRoom's pseudo F1 cars. Sure, the graphics are basic by today's standards, and the UI is dated, but the driving is challenging and intense, and the vehicle setup options are many. It's definitely on the serious simulation side of the scale, though one of the DLCs brings in an arcade mode that's not actually all that arcade-y. Now, quirks: First, on my rig it took a few tries to get a gamepad set up. Might be a Proton issue, I don't know. Anyway, I definitely recommend using a gamepad or wheel, as the handling can be very touchy. Second, the DLCs are sold as separate 'games', which is fine, it just clutters up your library. Great use of the 'Hide Game' option. Any Steam veterans from the mid-to-late '00s will know the drill. The options can be a bit confusing, so look closely before purchasing (Race Injection is a good start). I haven't tried online play. Maybe someday. I imagine there are people out there who've been playing this since the day it came out, and I can't be bothered to 'git gud' enough to keep up with them. Happy to be a casual on this one.
Upgrade From GTR2 Nice Handling and Car Sound are awsome too
Simplier times, when i was not addicted to footstep sounds.
