About
Justice requires courage. The courage to uncover truths that no one wants to see. The courage to confront former murderers who now wear suits and command respect. The courage to be threatened, ostracised or worse. And the courage to look into the darkness and be changed forever.

You are Esther Katz, a young prosecutor who has just joined Fritz Bauer's new special unit. Your task seems impossible: to investigate crimes committed years ago, where evidence has been destroyed, witnesses silenced and the perpetrators embedded in the highest ranks of society. Every decision matters. Every interrogation can bring you closer to the perpetrator or lead you astray. Silence is your worst enemy. Time is working against you. And German society is not ready to face its past.

In 1956, Fritz Bauer and his team of “Nazi hunters” demanded justice when everyone else demanded silence. A small team of prosecutors defying an entire nation. Criminals hiding in plain sight as respected citizens. Experience their dangerous struggle through the immersive investigations. Uncover truths a country has fought to keep buried. Challenge a society desperate to rewrite its own past.

Investigate two extensive cases based on true Nazi-era crimes
Interrogate witnesses and suspects, break through walls of silence and expose lies
Witness different versions of events through Esther's "mind's eye" as you perceive testimonies - which may be truthful, distorted, or deliberately false
Reconstruct events step by step from fragmented evidence and testimonies
Prosecute perpetrators in court with the right charges, where your investigative thoroughness will be put to the test
Shape the outcome with multiple endings - succeed in bringing justice or face the harsh reality of a perpetrator walking free
Explore Esther's story, her past and her relationships with family, colleagues and the iconic Fritz Bauer
Immerse yourself in stunning cell-shaded 3D graphics inspired by 1950s pulp comics, complete with comic panels that reflect the era

Normally I play adventure games, at times fantasy games or puzzle for entertainment, relaxing or for a challenge - this wonderful game is based on real events. So, I was not sure, if it would be for me, but I'm glad I decided to play and act as a prosecutor for justice. It was a ride through my country's black past, in which terrible crimes happened. For 2 of such, the player can seek justice in the Darkest Files. But don't think, we would just look into files .. no, we look at documents, but question witnesses as well. Those are made very nicely as sort of a walk through their memories... we accompany events, their look on them and what they claim to have done and said... After questioning, collecting of documents etc, we prepare and in court, we win the battle for the victiims A great game, highly recommended ! Don't miss it.
I really liked the art and gameplay of this one. I think it was too short, but worth the price. I would definitely play more of it!
I really enjoyed this game, with a few caveats. The story and subject matter is well handled in my opinion. Things are not sugar coated. I loved uncovering new documents and listening to the testimonies, although I wish the testimonies were not riddled with hidden objects that you have to search for. If you miss hidden objects your rating decreases, and sometimes they can be super hard to see, and they spawn continuously through the testimony. The option to highlight them is nice but even with it on it can be easy to miss important things. I also felt like this game does not hold your hand when it comes to coming up with the right conclusions. I had a hard time picking the right documents and sometimes had to use hints/spoilers. I like challenging deductive games but sometimes it was hard to know which document they were looking for to prove the point and when I looked up the answer it seemed like those docs shouldn't be the only correct ones. I appreciated the difficulty modifiers though. I'd recommend this game based on the story and the attention to detail as well as the lovely voice acting and art style. I had a lot of fun with this one, I would love to play more cases if they ever come out with them! I definitely took my sweet time with the two cases that exist, and I finished in under 10 hours.
I just wished the game had been longer.
I truly cannot recommend this game enough-- its beautifully crafted and poignant in a very naturalistic way that allows the player to come to their own emotional conclusions as a direct result of the gameplay, rather than giving the player a story outright. It really allows you to become emotionally invested in a way that feels very personal, while also making you question the ramifications of that. There's a lot to love about this game-- for one, the visuals are absolutely STUNNING. This whole game is so gorgeously stylized and makes good use of restrictive color pallets in a way that really serves to enhance the atmosphere of the game. While the characters of your co-workers are far from the focus of the game, I found that they were delightful to learn more about and interact with. The voice acting is also very well done and helps to make the experience even more immersive. Mechanically, this might be the best detective-style game I've ever played. There's so many options for how to customize your experience, including three default difficulties that you can also adjust to your needs. I find that sometimes game where you're meant to be investigating something, especially utilizing in-universe documents you need to file through, tend to be a bit too "hand holdy" but this game was PERFECT for me on the two more difficult settings. It truly allowed me to look at the clues given and come to my own conclusions in a way that actually felt like solving a puzzle rather than playing through a gamified "puzzle" that restricts your actual ability to deduce things for yourself. I was also pleasantly surprised by how helpful the in-game organizational tools were-- I'm used to needing a separate notebook to take notes for these types of games to help keep track of everything, but this game made it very easy to do so with its annotation and bookmark system without my needing outside resources. While I was already knowledgeable on the subject matter this game discusses going in, I still feel like I learned something and gained a deeper understanding of a part in history (post-WWII Germany) which I feel is seldom discussed, especially in such an easy-to-digest way. I also think this is especially true in how it focuses less on some sort of big villain and more on people which are much closer to an "ordinary citizen" type. Overall, I enjoyed every second of this game and recommend it to anyone seeking a well made detective-style game and/or a game with a narrative that feels like so much more than "just" a game. Truly my only wish is that there were more of it; I cannot wait to see what comes next from this studio!
An important historical game that immerses you in the fight against the remnants of the Nazis and an effort to bring them to justice.
Very good and well done, just wished it was longer
The game gives me more understanding of Germany and Nazi history. I'm feeling so disgusted while playing, so fortunate that I am living in a much civilized time.
