Reviews
This game is literally the meme of me beating a 10 dollar indie game made by 3 people and changing my perspective on life.
great mechanics, characters and dificulty. the bosses are intresting and you can technically kill h*tler
a truly unique experience in many ways
I was pretty impressed by the combat loop, good amount of depth from the start and the initial items I picked showed me the combat will get a lot more intricate as the game goes on (seeing 145 achievements also shows that!) I've had fun with this, would recommend!
I'm going to leave this review as a placeholder for a better review later. I'll just say that it's a very interesting game that's worth checking out and that has a narrative with tremendous emotional power.
Developed by Talia bob Mair and Nicolás Delgado and published by Hellbent Games, Brutal Orchestra is an indie turn-based roguelike RPG that confidently embraces the strange and unsettling. Rather than telling a conventional fantasy tale, it opens with the protagonist's violent death before sending them into an unsettling version of Purgatory. There, an enigmatic figure named Bosch offers a chance to pursue vengeance, setting the stage for an adventure that blends dark comedy, psychological horror, surreal fantasy, and existential themes. The game's world immediately captures attention with its bizarre imagery, grotesque inhabitants, and dreamlike environments that feel inspired by surreal art while maintaining a distinctive identity of their own. The combat system is the heart of the experience and stands apart from many games in the genre. Battles are turn-based but revolve around an unconventional resource mechanic that constantly forces players to weigh every decision carefully. Instead of simply attacking until victory, success depends on balancing offensive opportunities, defensive positioning, and long-term planning. Every encounter introduces new tactical problems to solve, while enemies often possess unique mechanics that discourage repetitive strategies. The growing roster of recruitable companions further expands the game's strategic depth, as each character brings specialized abilities that can dramatically alter how a battle unfolds. Discovering powerful combinations between party members becomes one of the most rewarding aspects of progression. Its roguelike structure ensures that no two journeys through Purgatory feel exactly alike. Randomized events, branching paths, recruitable allies, and an extensive collection of artifacts create countless possibilities for experimentation. Many of these artifacts significantly reshape combat by enhancing abilities or introducing entirely new interactions, encouraging players to rethink their approach with every run. Even unsuccessful attempts contribute to the overall experience by revealing additional secrets, unlocking new opportunities, and improving the player's understanding of the game's intricate systems. Rather than relying solely on permanent upgrades, Brutal Orchestra rewards careful observation, adaptability, and strategic mastery. Exploration is equally compelling thanks to the game's remarkably imaginative setting. Every area introduces bizarre creatures, unsettling landscapes, and peculiar personalities that make the world feel unpredictable and alive. The narrative unfolds gradually through encounters, environmental storytelling, and fragmented conversations instead of lengthy exposition, allowing players to piece together the mysteries surrounding both the protagonist and the twisted realm they inhabit. This method of storytelling complements the surreal atmosphere, maintaining a constant sense of curiosity while encouraging players to investigate every corner of the world in search of answers. The audiovisual presentation is one of the game's strongest achievements. Its pixel art is packed with disturbing creature designs, expressive animations, and vivid color palettes that reinforce the bizarre tone without sacrificing clarity during gameplay. Every environment is visually memorable, constantly shifting between grotesque horror and strange beauty. The soundtrack further enhances the experience by combining haunting melodies with tense battle themes that perfectly match the unsettling mood. Together, the visuals and music establish an unforgettable atmosphere that gives Brutal Orchestra a personality unlike almost any other indie RPG currently available. The game's unusual design inevitably comes with a steep learning curve. New players may initially struggle to understand its resource management, unconventional mechanics, and demanding combat encounters. However, those willing to invest the time are rewarded with an exceptionally deep and satisfying tactical experience that consistently encourages experimentation rather than repetition. Its mature themes, including graphic violence, disturbing imagery, and psychological subject matter, contribute meaningfully to the oppressive tone of its world, making it better suited for players who appreciate darker narratives and unconventional storytelling. Brutal Orchestra succeeds because it commits fully to its creative vision without compromising its originality. Its inventive combat, richly layered roguelike progression, memorable cast of characters, surreal world-building, and exceptional artistic direction combine to create an experience that feels genuinely fresh within an increasingly crowded genre. While its eccentric style and challenging mechanics may not appeal to everyone, players who enjoy strategic RPGs with bold artistic ambition will find an unforgettable adventure filled with mystery, creativity, and rewarding tactical depth. Rating: 9/10
Amazing game, but please change the pronouns of whoever has the "lady pills" item equipped.
♥♥♥♥♥♥ hype ♥♥♥♥ its prob got some of the best strategy in games ive played recently
Great roguelite with a surprising amount of depth in tactics. Took me minute or three to figure out how to utilize pigments effectively, enemy farming, and the usefulness of the humble slap. Highly recommended if you like turn based rpgs with a dose of tactics and roguelike elements.
